So I am posting yet another video that KZbin had previously blocked in some regions due to music copyright issues. No worries. I was happy to re edit this video and add a little something new for you at the end.
So a few years back a client of mine name Vincent Gordon, who also happens to be an awesome artist, posed a challenge when he commissioned this painting. He gave me a list of his favorite cartoon characters and said, see what you can do with these. Challenge accepted

Late, but worth a shot on something I've always wondered... Where does something like this fall with copyright? Do you get to a certain level of notoriety and need to start getting permission? What, if anything, do you need to be careful of when using copyrighted characters, even if they are loosely based? P.S. Future works with the orca's sending Watership's Down?

Do u use a reference for coloring? or do you just color it, the way u think it should be done. Either way, it is freaking breath taking.... The best from a Danish fan:D

Both! I always collect reference for accuracy but make changes as needed. I also make really rough color mock-ups to help inform the color story of a piece

Dude, I wonder like a maniac how you handle matte and / or glossy mediums in order to create layers to bring out a nice looking volume to the forms and shapes... are you always mixing the paint with some sort of medium? seems like a safer solution for me to go on layering on top of a base opaque colour (like a base reference for the midtone of the specific shape)... but idk, i'm still learning and haven't got too much time to try on the many different scenarious which I wonder. Any help on this?

I really don't bother with the mediums while working through a piece too much. I use water mostly. If an area gets too glossy, I let it dry, add a layer of matte medium to the entire piece, and get back to work after it dries. Here is a medium mixture I do enjoy for backgrounds : kzbin.info/www/bejne/ennbkqSrqbt7hck Also, a final coat or two Of varnish always evens out a surface. I like the nova color matte varnish (comes off more satin) but a lot of people like the glossy varnish as well:)

@@GregSimkinsArt and unfortunately nova doesnt ship to brazil :(. i'm working on some acrilex, daler & rowney; some differences on pigmentation and consistency but overall its being a real nice experience. Will experiment with other brands at home with some canvases been too anxious to find what works and what doesnt, ended up not enjoying the moment
