Absolutely some awesome fish there mate and it's pretty cool how the Red Emperor change colour from depth to up the surface
@gregswickedfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks heaps mate glad you liked it. The colour change is purely due to the loss of colour on the cameras in deeper water.

@@gregswickedfishing It's actually absorption of different wavelengths of light to different degrees. The longest wavelengths, with the lowest energy, are absorbed first. Red is first to be absorbed, followed by Yellow then Blue ( Primary colors ). Well worth a quick research wouldn't take long especially useful for color lure choices for downrigger trolling & for jigging.( I'm a painter ) Loved the video of quality eating fish. Subbed last night after watching your Flathead footage which was exceptional & worth watching many many times, cheers. 👍

Do you have any advice on electric reels and what brand do you like to use? What sort of depth were the Reds coming out of there? Do the bar cod's eyes poke out like that normally or is it the depth issue and what do they eat like
@gregswickedfishing Жыл бұрын
mate we use Miya epoch electrics reels mostly. Reds came from 40 to 65 mtrs deep mate. yeah the cod eyes pop out like that due to barotrauma. They are very good eating mate.

Haha we always stick to the regs mate and its not a lot of fish when you split it between 4 blokes. We also eat lots of fish so it doesn't last long.

How is the wide bay bar compared to the breaksea spit? Planning a trip to Fraser over Xmas , was planning to troll for mackerel to the north but a run through the wide bay bar might have to make the agenda for reef fishing as well Another great video Greg, glad I stumbled across your channel!
@gregswickedfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed it. In good conditions it isn't too bad mate and we rarely see it with breaking waves on the outer bank of the channel. It's a long bar so it can be sloppy for a considerable distance but choose the right weather conditions and avoid run out tides with bigger swells and its fine.

Greg awesome info , what depth does the 3d work up too? and is your main 295 transdicer a 1 or 2kw? cheers dave
@gregswickedfishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. The 3D will work up to 200 mtrs if tuned right. I've got 2 x 2kw trannies for the 295. One is a 200b-8b high freq 200khz for depths between 0 to 200mtrs and the other is a 82b-35r variable low freq (65 to 110khz) which is good for the deep water up to 700 odd mtrs.

Great video. Do you not bleed your fish?
@gregswickedfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks heaps mate. More often than not we do but I've been trialing various methods to see the difference. In fish like pearlies and reds it doesn't make a big difference in the eating quantities.

How far out from tin can bay I'm doing the big lap got a 5.6 MTR cat could I get out to areas like that
@gregswickedfishing2 жыл бұрын
Mate depends on the species we are chasing. In my opinion Red Emperor grounds start out about 40km from the bar out to the top edge of the shelf.

I was so amazed how they kill those massive fish using fishing rod. Maybe I'm just so naive in this type of fish hunting because I used hand line and its kinda painful in the hand also more risky.

Great trip & filming. Only thing I would say is to dispatch your fish if you can. Throwing them straight onto ice is a bit cruel for mine.
@jimjim7732 жыл бұрын
I agree mate, with something as good as a red you want to keep it in as good condition as possible as well, brain spike and bleeding does improve the fish, even reefies like this. still some nice fishing though
@gregswickedfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate and yes I totally agree. We brain spike and bleed a lot of our fish but I supply Fisheries QLD with frame samples particularly with reds and pearlies so I avoid brain spiking to avoid damaging the otolith bone that's used for ageing the fish. I've done tests on these species in the past and noticed very little difference in eating qualities when we've done it. Some species it makes a big difference while others not so much.
