Mega Charizard X gets the dragon type and loses the flying type, and dragon type is resistant to water while water does 2× damage against fire, so overall the water type advantage would just do regular damage. Not to mention the insane stat boost Charizard gets when it mega evolves. This is incorrect. Leon vs Alain was a fight that should’ve gone much differently and was a complete writing mistake with plot holes. If we look at Journeys episode 108, we see that Greninja absolutely destroyed Ash’s Lucario, which was basically on par with Pikachu throughout most of the Journeys series. On top of this, Greninja has gotten much stronger and faster since Ash left it with Zygarde. Long story short, Greninja is quite possibly Ash’s strongest Pokémon.

Because Mega Charizard X becomes a dragon type when he evolves, his defense becomes resistant to Water or at the very least, neutral. Other than that, it’s fair to say, Alan’s Charizard could have just been on a much higher level. Greninjas peak moment was nearly beating champion Diana’s Gardevoir. The battle didn’t finish, so we don’t really know if Diana was really locked In, or if she was gonna lose. And to be honest, I don’t see Diana beating Alan in battle myself. Meanwhile Alans best outing was his battle against Steven and his Mega metagross, who might be one of the top strongest champions in the verse. With that being said, there is an excuse for Greninja losing to Alan’s Charizard, and don’t over think it, it’s top 5 ash’s strongest Pokémon.

Let’s be real though, Ash’s Pikachu aka son of Arcues was at a different level when he fought Leon. It had Gigantamax and Z moves and it really didn’t lose in the entire tournament except for Cynthia using the cheap move Destiny Bond to take it out.

When Alain's Charizard mega evolves into Mega Charizard X its flying type is replaced with the dragon type, so water type moves are no longer super effective against it, plus it knows the move thunder punch which is an electric type move which is super effective against water types like Greninja.

Ok, let's assume the first part of the theory is correct that in Kalos, Greninja was not as strong as Alain's Charizard, but in Galar the Series, Greninja powers were off the charts, he could probably take on Leon's GigantaMax in the Ash Greninja Form

COUNTERS: -Rain dance went away yet when he did use it he one shotted bisharp -Alain’s charizard was taking down legendarys+if we’re gonna be fr that was bad writing then anything -Greninja downright dog walked on lucario very easily so I don’t got a doubt in my mind ash-greninja could beat lucario mega evolved -Greninja when not perfected was deadass beating Diantha and Greninja did the same thing against his charizard aswell. And only lost cause of Ash blacking out so this means Greninja was already at a champion to a legendary level of strength and most likely way stronger now
