@@9UaYXxB So your answer would be to send us back to the dark ages on the say so of a young indoctrinated child, leftists, pseudo scientists and scientists that are frightened of losing their financial backing, and even if we did that, it would hardly make an ounce of difference because the major culprits are India and China. Overpopulation is the biggest problem on this earth, not climate change which is grossly exaggerated.
@michaelrch
@michaelrch 5 жыл бұрын
Michael Deakin Don't bother being in the conversation if all you can attack is a straw man. None of the science or the economics is called for "going back to the dark ages". In fact most policies will allow for solid growth while we transition away from fossil fuels. The alternative to acting is catastrophic climate change and catastrophic damage to the economy. This isn't my opinion. It's the result of thousands of peer reviewed papers carried out by the most prestigious and qualified scientists and economists in the world. Indeed climate change is already costs over half a trillion of lost economic activity each year NOW. www.worldbank.org/en/topic/climatechange/overview Whereas the denier narrative is coming from the fossil fuel industry and right wing ideologues. Learn something. Read about what economists actually project if we act on climate change and what happens if we don't. Greta is correct. The politicians are often the last people to attend to the truth. But each and everyone of us has to do their bit to solve the climate crisis. Greta does not want to be elevated to superstar status. She does not want us crowing over her young age. She wants us to act on what she is saying and not be distracted from it.

They're not laughing at that. They're laughing at the fact that even if climate change was going to destroy the world it wouldn't matter. We humans are far, far, far too greedy to care. Do you think massive corporations, governments, and individuals are going to inconvenience themselves by trying to make a change for the survival of the planet? These people don't care because they'll be dead before they see the effects, so it makes no difference to them. Nothing is going to change, all this protesting for climate change is simply a waste of time.

They were fairly respectful for a UK politician audience. She is quite assertive and this may make them uncomfortable as they are not used to being spoken to in this direct, clear way by a child! There is much discussion on here about the laughter at circa 9m48s. To be honest, I think they were laughing with her and not at her. The laughter was also accompanied by a warm applause. Greta was pointing out the arguments and put downs that people in authority tend to reply with. To the credit of those who attended, I think they recognised and were acknowledging the truth in what she said and were laughing at how they themselves as politicians etc tend to reply and the irony of it. Adults do tend to put children down. Indeed, the older we get, the higher the age of the person we put down as 'too young to understand' gets older with us. Regardless, I didn't sense any malice in that laughter. There is also scorn against the politicians in the room. That may nor may not be deserved, but I think that those who took the time to attend and listen to her are people who also share the same concerns as the rest of us. In many ways, Greta Thunberg was very likely preaching to the converted. If we do not tackle climate change with the urgency said to be necessary and the worst comes to the worst, the circumstances will be just as bad for politicians as they would be for anyone so it is worth remembering that they are people too and have as much a vested interest in protecting 'the world as we know it' as anyone. Since we are currently talking about at least decades in the future before the worst effects of climate change take place, it is also worth remembering that a lot of those politicians sitting in that room will not be politicians at that time and not receive any preferential treatment if even that will be possible. Nevertheless, those politicians who are actively trying to instigate change need to be empowered and the only way to empower a politician is with strong public opinion. This is why Greta Thunberg is important. She doesn't hold the solutions, but she has the ability to garner attention and mobilise public support - thus also those to indirectly empower those politicians who are also keen to see things moving forward much quicker.

We truly have been blessed and rewarded with a true representative for humanity, in cause and belief and the truth. Cos that's exactly who Greta is, this amazing, yes, amazing young woman who speaks nothing but the truth, the ABSOLUTE truth. Her speech here has proved that all the more, and what she says is not to be doubted for a single second, cos it's a hundred percent correct. If a world president should ever be selected, one who could lead us into the future we now need to work hard about creating for our children, our children's children, there's only one candidate: this wonderful amazing truthful young girl. Greta, your words are what I now listen to only, I couldn't be more happier to say that Earth well and truly deserves you to walk it

I'd sign but I'm American & Can't :( And yes, I've been listening to Greta since the beginning of the year. It was really hard watching her tear up in the "big room" with everyone watching & listening. I know she is frustrated and should be. Going to all these important places, speaking in front of all these important people. And not a god damn thing has changed, not moved 1 millimeter. These governments and their money hungry lobbyists are going to let us ALL DIE & she knows it. Greta makes me think of Joan of Ark. Hopefully if there is a God & Heaven, because she will end up there.

It's an enigma, how adult people round the world can adore and admire this 16 years old school girl. Don't they have any scientific education as a base to evaluate all these complicated issues about the climate..? What IPCC says and claims are just "qualified" guesses and forecasts. Nobody of Greta's fans question anything of the content in her preaches. They are just blind stalkers to a new female Messias character. It's frightening how naive and gullible people are so easily affected by emotions....... what Al Gore claimed and predicted two decades ago. And... none of his predictions have occurred. NONE of them !! But... he became a billionaire on his films, books and tv-perform. !?! Don't you questioning anything that IPCC reports to media..? They are already proved wrong with some claims. and.. they never mention their own fact to media, that the Sun's incoming heat radiation has increased during the last decades...!??

Is time for scientific responses. University of East Anglia published on Sep 2013 that "the earth will cease to be habitable somewhere between 1.75 and 3.25 billion years from now". We need more sustanaible data about that announcement, I think it is time to treat with respect what was pointed out by Greta Thurnberg. And avoid laughter that tend to underscore what was mentioned by this young woman: the responsible people do not see with seriousness the great problem that we will face in a short time the inhabitants of the planet earth

I suggest that those watching this video go do a Planetary Dynamics course. It's not easy, but you get a full understanding of how planets are formed. You understand how various atmospheres work across a range of worlds and their tectonics. And to all those who laugh at this wonderful girl... The shame you will be feeling in 15 years - you deserve it. Just to put in perspective how stupid humans are: One Carrington level CME from the Sun hitting us will wipe out all electronics on one side of the Planet. (Or more depending on duration) No-one bothered to harden power plants against it, because of the cost. Yet we have an entirely electronic society. Now the kicker: That happened in 1859. Our reaction? Willfully ignoring it. Ironically, it might be the answer to our carbon problem. By sending half the planet back to the stone age. And these kids cant use an abacus. Not, entirely true tho- leftwings have always wanted to "improve", they often see themselves in a higher status than everyone else- this is what Greta Thunberg wants (PR). Leftwings are worse than ever before (no responsibility, only complains)- from Sweden.

The people listening attentively are sadly not the people who need to listen. Put Bojo, Gove, Fartage, i-love-chlorine-chicken Fox, Daniel Hannan and all those pillocks in the room. They’re the real idiots in Britain who need to hear this message.

@@reellezahl you really need to listen to the alternative view for once, for one thing it is not the tired old dogma of flawed computor models , it is science based, and does not contain a political agenda. wake up! and perhaps look at the snow still falling in N.America, snow was a thing of the past by 2012 right? Wrong!
