The way Josh holds his vocals during the age of machine solo is just beautiful

The sound quality is fantastic, but as someone who was at this show I can tell you this was tweaked in production quite a bit. I've watched my own videos from this show enough times to remember exactly what each song sounded like, exactly where one of the band members made a slight mistake, etc. They completely tone-corrected whenever Josh went even the slighest bit off-key, and they fixed evey time Jake made a slight mistake or anything along those lines. Not only that but they completely changed the solo in The Barbarians and I just don't think it sounds good with how they changed it. I wish they would've left all the mistakes in, it is a LIVE performance afterall EDIT: watch this video of "The Barbarians" from this show, you'll see what I mean about the guitar parts and how they covered every single mistake/off-key vocal kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJOVZZ6bZrN7otE I love GVF and don't get me wrong I think the live vinyls are cool but I just wish they would've not tweaked it as much

The overdubs & corrections are usually done in the studio prior to mastering the final recording. Every musical artist who puts out a live album does it.

Yeah I really dislike when bands tweak live performances even in the slightest. It’s the bumps and bruises that make a live song great sometimes. And no bad epitomizes this dynamic more than Zeppelin. The guitarist in GVF has more to do with any comparisons to Zeppelin than anyone else in GVF IMO. Yes, the rhythm section does gel a bit like Jones and Bonham, but you can really hear the guitarists love for Page and knowledge of his playing in the licks he employs during solos. But to his credit he very rarely plays something that is identifiable note for note with a specific Page solo. More importantly he captures much of the feel of particularly early Page, but brings his own unique style to it such that it is still clearly his creation. And to whatever extent he may be accused of being a Page clone anyway, that’s fine too. There’s nothing wrong with this. But fortunately he is more than this. All I know is when I hear one of his solos I listen to it closely, in the same way a Page solo forces yo to also do. So I have nothing but props for this kid and this band in general. But I think they have yet to put out their defining work…

Barbarians solo sounds identical to me. The only problem I have with this killer solo is that the twins compete for the attention during it. Both live and in the recorded versions I would have preferred the guitar being at the center of attention there without Josh wailing

someone shared with me a different Rip of these 4 gigs they released on Vinyl (flac files-Lossless). I guess GVF shouldn't mind folks sharing them since you can no longer buy them. I have cleaned up the transitions on the individual shows, re-tracked them and also put together a "greatest hits" show using the best cuts (IMO) of the 4 gigs - ensuring that all the unique songs played at these shows was represented on the HITS show...it's 24 songs long as a result and a killer set if I say so myself. 😀 it flows like ONE LONG CONCERT.....I can share a mega site download link if anyone wants them all or download what you want - these would be FLACS. send me an note.

Comparing this band to Led Zeppelin is as much a disservice to Zeppelin reminds me of comparisons drawn to Kingdom Come in the 1980s. They focus on one element of Zeppelins sound that the band does a decent job of emulating, and the next thing you know they are the next Zeppelin. In the case of Greta Van Fleet you have a certain groove reminiscent of Zeppelin’s very early career, say up to Led Zeppelin II. The guitarist does have a certain attack and playing style reminiscent of some of Page’s playing from that era as well. But they don’t seem to have much more that resembles Zeppelin beyond this; nothing to remind me of anything Led Zeppelin put out after 1969. And the vocalist doesn’t really sound anything like Robert Plant. He sounds a lot more like Shannon Hoon if anything. And his voice really grates on me after a while to be honest. Trying to sound like Led Zeppelin anyway is a bit of a conundrum because Led Zeppelin, despite wearing their blues influences on their sleeves, was a band that broke new ground on every album and had some thing for everybody including the aforementioned blues, old-school rock ‘n’ roll, heavy metal, folk, jazz, country, progressive rock, etc. So a band may be able to copy a certain aspect of Zeppelin’s sound, but will never capture the spirit of Led Zeppelin unless they also are band that breaks all sorts of new ground and can genre-hop with the seeming eclecticism and also general ease in which Zeppelin did. And so far no band has been able to do that successfully at least as did the mighty Led Zep. So I’m not trying to take anything away from Greta Van Fleet here. They sound pretty good, they’re a decent band. Their guitarist is very good, they’re all very good. And the music is good. Not great, but good. I can listen to it which is a lot more than I can say for most new rock bands if they can be called rock anymore anyway. But being a huge Zepplin freak that I am I just had to chime in on this issue.

It took 4 albums for Zep to write originals, soooo …….GVF is in great shape if you ask me. Besides, the funny thing is that led Zep were put together by the industry, which is a critic GVF always get which is ridiculous as we all know they were put together by their parents’ loins lol. Ah and at least Greta don’t have to pay any settlement money to 4 generations of blues men descendants

@@Tityretupatulae not sure about it taking Zep for albums to start writing originals. Perhaps to stop leaning on their influences a bit might have been a better characterization. But even where they did lean in their influences, it very rarely was straight copy. However, it is hard to deny the rather appalling nature of the liberties they, and many big bands from that era, took with the songwriting credits, or rather lack of credit. Particularly outstanding for zeppelin in this category for me are Jake Holmes (Dazed And Confused) and Blind Willie Johnson (Nobody’s Fault But Mine). And they probably should’ve done their homework before crediting Boogie With Stu to anyone not named Little Richard. However in their defense, a lot of the music they are accused of plagiarizing, like Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, Gallows Pole, and a couple of others are definitely traditional songs that don’t belong to anybody the original writers being lost to time. Definitely anywhere Robert Plant copied lyrics, pretty much straight up in any sort of quantity, they should’ve given the credit. Bring It On Home, When The Levee Breaks, In My Time Of Dying, Hate Off To (Roy) Harper, might be good examples of this. But many songs he just offered snippets, like The Crunge, Good Times Bad Times, or Since I’ve Been Loving You, a credit is probably not warranted.
