There's a German children's story book from the 19th century called: Der Struwwelpeter. It's filled with many short stories. One of them is literally about a kid setting herself on fire. There's one about a kid having his thumb cut off. One about a kid refusing to eat and turning to literal skin and bones. And a kid being carried away in a storm, never to be seen again. Of course those are the more extreme ones. Some are less gruesome. There's one about a kid who keeps on staring up into the sky and constantly bumping into things before finally walking into a river (he was saved, don't worry).

Ehhh, no, not really, it wasn't a kid-friendly story, when you apply logic & reasoning. They burned a witch who was planning on eating them to death (and also might've eaten her after doing so, if I remember correctly?). Apart from burning someone alive, fairy tales like this, that depict evil, ugly cannibals as witches, is offensive to people who are witches in real life, as quite a few of them are actually nice people, and using magic doesn't hinder their appearance in terms of conventional attractiveness. One of my siblings is a witch, and they're a nice and chill person. Same goes with any other cases of witches being depicted as having green skin, a long, pointy nose, warts, always being nothing but mean and heartless, loving to gobble up children, or any combination of those. People only (at least, used to) demonize witches, because they were afraid of the unknown, and yet again in history, decided to show hatred towards a group of people who stand out from what's considered the social norm, just like far too many people used to do to black people like me, and like how too many still do to LGBTQAI+ community members (also like me- I'm gay 🌈), to this very day...😒... (Plus, the above-mentioned sibling of mine had also explained to me that the looking unconventionally unattractive, having green skin, warts, and big noses, are all features of witches that were originally generated by Nazis back during WWII, as a form of anti-Semitic propaganda (like how they'd lie and say that Jews have big noses, are greedy, lying, stealing swindlers & tricksters who only care about money, to rile up the population of the public that wasn't Jewish, and get them to support the Nazis by gaslighting them into hating them to the point of reporting the locations of hiding Jews)
