Love the playing at the end. I’ve been an acoustic player for years, mostly chord player, some finger picking. Bought a Les Paul copy. Great guitar but not entirely my speed after having it awhile. I think the 335 would be right up my alley though the look hasn’t inspired me, the tone surely does.

Jake, I’m late to the game with my comment, but thank you for your great video! I love the 335, but it’s not in my price range now as a recent retiree. I have had the privilege of seeing BB live twice, and seeing him perform The Thrill Is Gone still ranks among my most memorable concert moments ever. I am planning to check out the 5420. Gretsch is the most widely played guitar today in worship music, which is where I’m getting a chance to play in the coming months. Videos like yours are very helpful!
@jakesmith45062 жыл бұрын
Hello Gene. Thank you for visiting my channel. Yeah, those 335's are pricey. I've recently retired too. So, I'm paying attention to what I spend money on. I received this 335 as a replacement under warranty for a Gibson Midtown Classic that had a neck issue. Gibson guitars have a lifetime warranty for the original buyers. That's why it's important to fill out the warranty info and register any instrument with the manufacturer. I originally paid $1500 for my new Gibson Midtown guitar back in 2015. I had registered the guitar with Gibson. They asked me if I had the original receipt, I had it, and the rest is history. I was shocked when they told me that they were sending a ES-335 as a replacement. They could have sent the less expensive 339 and I still would have been floored. Gibson is a great company, although, not perfect. No one is perfect. I get so tired of clueless people that do not know how to string a guitar when they claim that Gibson guitars won't stay in tune. These people need to learn how to put on strings. Geez, I've never heard Angus Young play out of tune. he's like a pinball on stage. hahaha. All of his jumping around never put him out of tune on his Gibson. Well, the Gretsch hollow body is great too. I do enjoy playing it. the Bigsby trem system stays in tune too. It's not a dive bomb ready system but it's great for the cool kind of shake and bake you need. hahhaa Gretsch has some kind of connection with Fender so they have a good distribution system for the product. I am certain that you will end up with the right instrument for your personal 'MOJO'. I have only one request of you. >>>> PLAY WITH PASSION !! Put your heart and soul into your music and enjoy the wonderful sounds of your fingers on the strings!!! stay healthy and rock on. your pal, jake. my Gretsch >>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6Oop5eKm9-Ur68

A closer comparison might be Gretsch Broadkaster. I have a Brodkaster it was 3K but I still upgraded it with a bone nut and put in TV Jones classic+ / TV Jones Supertron in the neck with a great set up. Now it would give a 335 a run. I still could not resist and I am waiting delivery of a Custom Shop 64 ES-335 in black with the custombuckers. It's still twice the price of the Broadkaster. Both should be close to top of the line for each model. I hope to keep both. 😄

Cut my teeth on a cheap 335 imitation, own various Fenders, Gibson, custom builds and Ibanez - still searching for comparable sustain and tone in high end solid body guitars. If you are looking for a superb, fast neck with natural tone and howling feedback - go for a 335 style hollow-body. So much more versatile - Clapton, Zakk Wylde, Benson...they all used hollow body styles at some point. Harmonics are amazing and amped feedback can be wild yet easy to control. Looking forward to testing a basic Gretsch this weekend...It is easy to use A DECENT HOLLOW BODY AND UPGRADE THE POTS AND PICKUPS.

OK, Hello my friend. Welcome to the world of guitar confusion. I've been there. I like the Gretsch stuff. It's got it's own sound and they have been played on hit records for many, many years. Malcolm Young stands back there and lays out killer power chords for Angus on those AC/DC records. Of course, many other greats play Gretsch. Sometimes I get into tweaking guitars and sometimes getting into trouble because I am not the best guitar tech guy. ha. But, for now, everything is pretty good and my setups are actually properly done. Hang in there and explore your options. Hi Richard, thanks for checking out my channel. Yeah, an american made 335 is a thing of beauty. But, sometimes you end up playing a questionable venue....take the Gretsch, hahha. In the end it's all good. Just have to enjoy what's there and do the best you can with the music. The import Gretsch has it's place in different situations. But the 335 does rule. ha. I just love to play and I hope that you are also enjoying your music and making the MOJO happen. be safe and keep on rocking. thanks again for checking out my channel!
