Here I am back again so probably the 50th time. Zach is an incredible dynamic player as well as the mahogany shells on this kit are so versatile! I especially love it when he tunes it down low, and like you said that feeling you get where your sticks just melt into the heads those drums sound amazing

I’d rather take these for gigs on stage, than a very expensive kit. Good sound and can’t tell the difference behind electric guitars and keyboards. An audience could not tell the difference. Spend the rest on good cymbals....you can hear the difference there. Love this colour..

Would this be a good kit for multi genre gigging? I looking for a kit that can handle if I'm filling in for a jazz club, world percussion club, rock bar, etc. I know a 20" bass drum is optimal because it can cover most tuning ranges but my concern is the bass drum depth of 14"
@gretschdrumsusa8 жыл бұрын
+Mike Ozowski Of course. We hope this video was able to show that. 😃

I would go for one with the 20'', jazz drummers dont really use a kick as small as 14''
@Carlo245158 жыл бұрын
I have one of these, and it's very verstile. The only place it falls short is when I'm playing loud rock or hip-hop/RnB gigs, especially where the drums aren't all mic'd. For that I tend to go for something with a brighter attack and punch (gospel chops kind of sound) to cut through. This kit plays really great at low-medium volumes in a wide array of tuning ranges though, so if you're still looking then I would recommend it as a good all around, portable kit.
@ozziep1235 жыл бұрын
@@alihutton I think he means 14" deep. 20 x 14

14" depth on 20" kick works actually better than 16" depth. More responsive.
@JeffreyMiddelveld7 жыл бұрын
I own a Catalina kit too, but the only thing that I don't like is the tom bracket. For some reason it just kills the tone and lets the overtones do it's work. When I even lift the tom only an inch, the toms floats freely and it sounds even better than a 2000 dollar DW (of course it's subjective). Other than that, fantastic kit! The 18x14" kick really sounds amazing. Also got a 16x16" floortom, which is a killer and on top of that, I recently ordered a 24x14" kick for an explosive, big fat and open sound. The big advantage about the Catalina line is that they're really affordable and almost everything that you would like is available. Just brilliant, thanks a lot Gretsch!
@ramencurry667211 ай бұрын
I agree the Tom sounds good. I was going to get rid of it after replacing it with the Gretsch Renown Tom Tom drum. However I decided to keep it since it has its own distinctive sound and I feel that the more expensive drums don’t sound better. Just different

It sounds awesome but actually i got here trying to find a review as good as this one for the Rock version on this beautifull color. One other thing i want to know if someone can help me, is why is Gretsch making 24" bass drums 14" in depth and on the rock KIts no 18" flor tom. I had a Charcoal Pearl Catalina CLub like 9 years ago and it had a 24 x 18 bass drum which was a cannon and a 18 floor tom which added a super ultra rocker kit IMO. Now i'm interested on this new version with the 14" depth kick but are there any chances to get an 18" floor tom? THANKS!!!!
