Cult America was a raw, chaotic beast of rough progressive rock sounds. Empty Black refined those intentions into one of the best albums of that decade. And now they are here again, finally, with the next chapter. I can't wait.

Man, that delayed snare hit when they go back to the chorus for the last time and just the ramping up the intensity each time they revisit it has had me looping this song for days.

This song is a great single but really all of their songs can stand on their own. Saw them live in Harrisonburg, VA and they had such fun, chill energy. One of my favorites.

It's a nice catchy song, but I do hope the album has more songs that resemble the glorious heavy moments of Empty Black. I understand that bands like to go in new directions and evolve, but it'd just be a bummer if Greyhaven abandoned their heavier side altogether. Empty Black had some of the most bone crushingly heavy moments (1:55 of The New Black, 2:41 of Blemish, :48 of Broadcast Network, :22 of mortality rate, 1:05 and 2:48 of Ten Dogs- Red Heaven, etc) and I would love to hear more of that. Not knocking the band and totally respect whatever they want to do creatively, just putting this comment here in case others are kind of wondering the same. There are plenty of bands I still listen to who 'lightened up' and abandoned their heavier side, so it's not a dealbreaker for me. I just think that Greyhaven was really creative and talented in that aspect, and thats what kept bringing me back to Empty Black time after time. I guess I'll wait and see!
@Lolturtle1453 жыл бұрын
I'm with you here! Their mix of heavy and melody was special on Empty Black, a perfect bridge between heavy progressive metal and punk! Here's hoping theres more, with "A match where a great fire should be" being the last single I have some hope :p

Initially felt like this song was a letdown but now I fucking love it. Still quintessentially Greyhaven, feels like a progression of A Match Where Great Fire Should Be, with more emphasis on the groove and cleans. It’s the perfect single and I’m sure the entire album is still gonna have heaps of the heavy Greyhaven is known for.

@and-fv7lc3 жыл бұрын
Thought the intro and first verse were very good. But the chorus sounds like a regurgitation of 3 days grace. It’s been done. Let’s move forward. The corny played out chorus does not need to be the focal point of the song. If it is then it better actually better be catchy and somewhat unique.
@fictionnerd788 ай бұрын
I can see why you call the chorus corny and played out and that’s a more than fair way to feel and that’s a solid point I’ve never thought of before, but I disagree. Imo, not only does the chorus itself work (Because I personally don’t find it to be played out), but also, given the song is, at least to me, all about making friends with one’s depression, the sort of mockingly friendly tone of the lyrics in the chorus “Can’t believe this is what you’ve done tonight” sung in such an almost teasing tone, the song centering around that chorus is wholly appropriate because how it fits with the subject. But that’s just how I feel about it and I can still definitely see where you’re coming from when you say the chorus feels recycled or played out even if I don’t feel the same way and it’s still a more than fair critique.

Probably the worst song you all have ever recorded. Hope the rest of the album is good..
