Holy moly! No wonder good drow are such a rare thing. The drow of the Greyhawk setting are the most ruthless. Check out just how evil and cunning their race is in part 1 of the Greyhawk drow lore series.

Thank you for keeping Greyhawk alive. I was DMing the campaign 'Queen of the Spiders' many years ago and I liked the ruthlessnes and cruelty of Greyhawk drows in comparison to newer interpretations. They make excellent opponents for high level PCs.

I recognize this is purely a IMC interpretation, but I'd always pictured the Drow as the 'Mean Girls' Clique at High School but cranked to 11 and with a dash of Horror Movie Villain added in. It did lead to some interesting shenanigans in the Vault. I also think it's important to recognize the far more limited (but not non-existent) presence of Drow on the surface of Greyhawk/ Oerth, where they're regarded by most in the same way the Men In Black are in our world (IE some basis in reality but for the most part fiction) as opposed to Faerun/ Forgotten Realms Drow which always seemed a fair bit more public, more regarded as we might the Mafia.

If drow we're interpreted into modern days. Haha Yeah, I was reading a little a bit about that lore. In some parts of Greyhawk/Oerth the drow are so "non-present" that some towns actually believe them to be a myth. Definitely creates some interesting intrigue.

@@GuidingBoltGaming Curiosity: If you remember, what was your source for that bit? Cause I recall Athasian/Dark*Sun Bards being regarded in much the same way, and I'm wondering if that influenced the Drow culture or vice versa?

Wait in this world of drow ,are there a rare few hanging around above? So rare that they are kinda like our big foot? I got the feeling of this reading up on it and that gives me some ideas.(if this is the case, what does big Momma Lolth say about it? )

It depends. Some parts of Greyhawk, this holds true. Drow are like the monsters under the bed and in the closet. Others parts of the surface world see drow more often, like for slave raids. But they generally like to do their surface dealings in secrecy and through puppet control.

Minus the matriarchal aspect & several other minor aspects & the Drow philosophy is remarkably similar to the philosophy of the ruling powers on earth today... ...to a lesser extent even their religious beliefs mirrors the Drow religion.

I also love the dark evil version of the drow. I think that one of the resources used for this episode was Dragon Magazine #298 which has an excellent article about returning the drow to their 'evil' roots. imgv2-1-f.scribdassets.com/img/document/345909475/original/53488a6327/1583939906?v=1
