The cube represents society and it is chasing everyone who doesn’t fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind and , IU is deaf and mute . Soo they are running from the oppression of society. The world is controlled by these standards of perfection to the point, where people in South Korea put masks on when they don’t wear make up or feel insecure. The mv is a dystopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abandoned place , they find a camera that allows them to see an illusion of what there lives would be like if they where “normal” by societies standards, it starts with their looks like what they would look like without their certain differences, and then it goes to show you what they would eat, then they get sucked in a bit to much to the point that they beautifully imagine that IU can sing and V could sing aswell and that she could hear his voice and that they could get married and have fun and eat what they want because they wouldn’t have to care about society or any oppression, however when they finally start to feel comfort the cube (society) finds them again and pushes them to retreat and flee again. They try to survive against it and try to fight it and beat it as hard as they can, but they can’t beat a stronger system, they give up but at least stayed together to the very end, even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, the MV shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love and find there soulmates in people even if they are not ‘normal’ or ‘perfect’ to the eyes of others. The pile of clothes are like from BTS spring day MV these people died because of injustice but they deserve love. The pile of clothes can look really sad and depressing but can also be a symbol that they’re free to be themselves now (Thanks for all the likes and as @jamiie715 said it is just my opinion)

I agree. When I first saw it, I was like WDYM? Love wins all? That was a super sad ending, it made me cry. But if you view it in the sense of true love. She stayed with him till the end. Realistically she could have run away while he fought off the cube, it could have given her more time. But she chose to not only stay with him, but shield him from the harsh reality. Love won in the sense that you will never let someone you care about go through hardships alone. Idk. There’s so many interpretations of the mv. I found it fascinating.

She sang Love Me Again and she and V sang a duet of one of her songs together. You should check that out. Their voices together was something gorgeous. V acted in Hwarang about 7 years ago, a kdrama. The cube represents society and its going after those that are "abnormal" to societal standards (she's deaf and he's blind in one eye). When they look into the camera, they see themselves as "perfect" and get swept up into this fantasy land and forget they are being chased by the cube. You can see small glimpses of reality like when the photo booth pictures come out and they are their true selves (dirty, cut up, stained dress, one eye blind) but when we saw them taking the pictures they were "perfect". The people with their faces covered are mocking/attacking them even though it looks like they are cheering/celebrating them. At the end, she covers V's good eye so he doesnt have to see the horrible end they are about to face yet she faces it head on and doesn't blink. It's such a powerful song and video. Both IU and V are actors and have been in dramas. So that's why you could really feel the emotions in this video!

Love won because they died together. Society didnt get a chance to keep them apart. Yes thats what the cube represents society fans etc but in this mv iu is deaf and v is partially blind so as people with disabilities society doesnt let them live as others do. No they are not naked. They were disintegrating in the last scene. Its more about oppression in the world. That's what the director said. And the camera is a filter to the inequalities that exist. For me the the cube/society takes away or eats away at individuals who are different.

My theory is that love won, not because they survived, but because they stood together. He tried to protect her even though he knew he couldn't. She closed his "good" (can't think of a better word) in the end, to protect him from seeing their ending. The one type of protection was physical, the other was emotional. Kind of made me think of the team getting enlisted. They are getting ready to protect their loved ones physically. But that's not the only protection people need when there is a "cold war." But yeah, I have a tendency to over think.

In fact, V is blind in one eye and IU is deaf. Although neither of them are perfect, they complement each other. Even though the world is completely destroyed, they and their love survive. The camera covers their flaws and shows what they would look like if the world wasn't like this, if they didn't have flaws. They have fun, dance and even get married, but reality eventually returns. The fact that the world is not perfect. However, they still run away, but after a while, they stop running away from the fact that the world is not perfect and they fight. IU takes the crowbar to hit the cube, but V takes the cube instead and hits it herself, and then, while thinking that they can kill the cube, the cube becomes even more aggressive. That's when IU and V realize that they can't win, but their love is so perfect that they face the realities of the world without leaving each other. That's when IU closes V's only seeing eye so that he doesn't see them die. In the end, they choose to die together instead of letting each other down in order to live. They become part of that mountain of clothes, just like other dead people. Because love is a perfection…

When you see the love in the other's eyes, it transforms you, strengthens you, and makes you see yourself competent to deal with the sadness, craziness and obstacles of life. When I watched the mv shoot sketch on BANGTANTV, I noticed the heavy dust in a close-up of their table in the banquet hall. One idea is that the cubes are turning everyone to dust, as did the invaders in War of the Worlds. (The movie.) No one makes it out of this world alive. From dust we came, and to dust we return. But we win when we focus on giving and receiving love, letting it make us more than we were before. Then we truly live while we are alive.

Plenty of people talked about the video meaning and its correlation to society and such. The interesting thing I found the first time I watched this was that I was so absorbed in the story of the video I completely forgot to read the subtitles LOL Also, during her tour she showed an alternate, happier ending. IU - in case no one else mentioned - is the crowning jewel of South Korea. She is a singer and actress and is incredibly talented at both. Side note, she's a friend of Yoongi's and it's fun to watch them together. He likes to give her a hard time. Skin care is huuuuuuge in South Korea. Everyone in SK has a regiment to care for their skin. That said, V is known for his flawless beauty. He and Jin people say you think they are beautiful when you see them on screen but then you see them in person and you realize the video pales in comparison to the real thing. However, feel free to check out In the SOOP. It's basically when the BTS guys would go away for a vacation of sorts and it's filmed. Hilarity ensues but a lot of it shows them bare faced, as it is referred to. It is not uncommon in SK for men to wear things like tinted sunscreen and light makeup on just the regular. Anyway, for most of In the SOOP they are makeup-less.

(It's so delicate that doesn't hurt my ears 😅 - I'm not so fond of Asian female voices 😅). They gave us a super short but very emotional Kdrama. Love wins everything. Nevertheless Because they didn't give up on love.The hatred to drive them out keeps following them. But whether it's prejudice or disgust, whether it's interference or other people's eyes or hate, even if it's death, they don't care Love, which loved to the end and never gave up on each other, won. True love says it's ok a terrible reality. They say it's okay to lack each other or to look different from others. They say it doesn't bother them at all because they look so good to me. The official statement from IU’s agency (which she owns) is that the cube represents prejudice and discrimination. In the video IU is deaf and V is blind in one eye, and the cubes (called Nemo the agency’s official statement) are taking out anyone with disabilities or who is “abnormal.” But as you can see in the video, IU and V are the only real people left. So everyone must have been abnormal in some way. The camcorder shows them an ideal world from their imagination so they could pretend everything is okay for a little while. Obviously it’s almost impossible to beat prejudice and discrimination and it kills them in the end, but they still won because the discrimination could not stop them from loving and being loved.

I always love how you are always invested in his happiness since the Layover reactions 😂😂 In all seriousness, the clip can be interpreted many ways, the cube can be the society discriminating against disabled people (Tae is half blind and mute and she have speach diffuclty indicated by the lip ring ). It also can be the haters and rapid fans who get angry at idols dating or trying to have a relationship. It can be life itself that tears us down with the difficulties. But in the end the real message is love will help us through all of that, even if not “winning” cause while they lost to the cube, they were still together to the very end, till death did them apart. I loved this MV so much, while IU vocals are absolutely stunning, it was the MV that made the emotions so alive and the message so much stronger, the song itself sounded like an OST for the short movie we saw. I really want to see Tae at the big screen after he finishes his enlistment.

You should check out IU's song "Eight" with Suga. It is suspected, though not confirmed that it is a letter to her friends Jonghyun (Shinee) and Sulli (f(x) and an actress) that both passed for suicide. It is a beautiful song.

My theory is IU is leading V, who is partially blind and deaf through the world. V’a blindness and deafness represent how us fans are sometimes blind and deaf to the problems idols have in the industry. The cube is hate, of course. When looking through the camera, we see the idealistic world that we usually see our idols through and all the “fun” they have. But at the end, when we finally see IU in trouble, V (her fans) try all we can to protect her back, unfortunately not being able to. She goes back to making sure we can’t see the hate even as it takes us over. Unlike others, I don’t think IU is deaf/mute in the video. Her singing on stage at the end makes me think she’s not.
