Actually in the story sans managed to pull the player in (or what I've gathered from other commenters.) And the fact he's giving the player a single chance to survive or be stuck as a sans to relive the never ending sans fights over and over again. After all. Frisk and Chara never altered the game files. That's the players fault. And Sans knows it.
