Greyson Chance Discuss His New Album, "portraits"

Singer, songwriter and recording artist Greyson Chance came into the national spotlight in 2010, after an unforgettable performance of Lady Gaga’s "paparazzi" which was viewed by over 60 million people on KZbin. What followed was a plethora of national television appearances and world tours. He recently released his highly-anticipated new single, "shut up." The song will be included on Chance’s long-awaited forthcoming new studio album, "portraits," which is set to release through AWAL early March.

Truly. I hope honest articulation of emotion in songwriting comes back in style. It's scarce because you can't really write honestly and also be lazy -- something particularly relevant to the factory that is pop music. Authenticity is hard work, but the impact a deep, relatable song can make is like the meaning of life for me. Greyson's writing reminds me of the honesty and vulnerability in the work of John Mayer and Bo Burnham.

The picture he chose as the cover for portraits is perfect. It is startling. And it's meant to be. When I first saw it it reminded me of a fighter, nearly beaten but prepared to keep fighting. To me it encapsulates, in a single image, everything Greyson has been through over the past 10 years; Personally, professionally and romantically; The inspiration for the music of 'portraits' I find it truly beautiful! 💙
