For the Damage Models point - it tends to be the car manufacturers decision how much they want their cars to be trashed. Obviously they only want to show minimal damage to their fancy cars and if the devs want that car in their game, they have to agree to it which is why the damage models are butt. @the missing link Yeah it's a bit stupid but you have to see both sides of the argument. On one hand it detracts from the game and on the other side they don't want their brand to be associated with cars that crumple like tin cans (even though sometimes that's exactly what they do). Next time you see a recognisable brand in a game (Jurassic World game/LEGO games/Car games), what the devs wanted and what the property owner let them do are probably two very different things and I think that's important to know.

Damn! I wish this was on psvr. I have a full wheel and cockpit rig with only the excellent Driveclub vr holding the fort for the last 2 years. Gts and dirt rally psvr dont have a full grid of cars which to me isn't really racing. Where's the cavalry? Im running outa ammo!

I played Grid Ultimate on XSX. Started with the Hypercar Season 3 and worked my way back to GT Season 2, Hatches Season 1 and Original Career. I finished the hypercar season, did many gt races and just a few hatches ones. Didn't do much of the original career, found the cars underwhelming. Alrhough I had fun overall, my problem is car handling can be treacherous around corners. Even in a straight line when breaking heavily, I had difficulties keeping some hypercars on the track, like the Koenigseg Jesko on a wet track in China, for example. Many corners feel like I have to fight against the slippery car. A small tap from another car will easily throw me off the track. Terrible car physics. It's a shame because the game looks great and feels super fast at 60 fps. The atmosphere is also good, kind of gritty. Some tracks look incredible with tons of eye candy. I will be trying the 2022 Legends soon. I really hope they've sorted out the lacklustre car handling around bends.

Codemasters has always had the best racing AI bar-none. The race engineer, the nemesis system, the coded race events, this is all what I've been wanting since the original came out in 2008. It even looks fun with a wheel, which has never been true of the Grid series. I've moved away from arcade racers over the years, but I've gotta pay full price for this one. I need to encourage this kind of development.

Really wish people would stop hating on the rewind feature. If you don't like it don't use it. It is there for those who want/need it. I appreciate the option to avoid last lap spinout frustration and things happen sometimes.

To be honest, the first Grid was the most fun i ever had in a racing game, that and Colin Mcrea 3 or 4 and Dirt 1. I will give this a go just because its Grid, but i have a feeling it won't live up to the first one. It already looks and feels different from what i can see.

Starfals I totally agree, Grid on ps3 is the most fun I’ve ever had with a racing game and racers are some of my fav games, been playing em since Super Nintendo days. Grid was just absolutely incredible and I can still remember the endurance race at night. I’d never heard of grid, see it on Amazon for £4 free postage. Best gamble I’ve ever taken. To be fair, there’s only 1 racing game that I’ve totally not liked and that was Wrc 4,5 or 6. I can’t remember. All I know is , I bought it for about £8 on ps store and I uninstalled it after 1 race. I’m not a pc master race and I’m not obsessed with frame rate but this game ran like a bag of shit. Worst frame rate ever. I just bought Grid Ultimate Edition for £25 from Amazon. Will be here tomorrow. I’m not even bothered if it’s not as good as original, as long as it’s reasonably fun, which I’m sure, at the very least, it will be. Edit, what did you think of grid?

Mack if you want a game with a truly insane sense of speed, isle of man tt, going round the photo realistic track dodging bus stops and lamp posts, everyone needs to experience that. Get it on offer and play it once just for the experience. The speeds you get on uk roads are incredible.

Technically, the 2008 one was called Race Driver: Grid and was a follow on from the TOCA series. There were two other Grid games after that. This is just Grid and is sort of a reboot/relaunch whatever for the franchise.

First driving game I have played so far that with only 10 mins play, and one setting change that I could play with my wheel, everything else I have tried was so bloody difficult to set up..... alter the sensitivity just a tad and I was off and driving, so far so good :)))))) great review by the way :P

If you can't use your pedals with your wheel, you can configure the wheel's paddles as throttle and brake, this is what I do as I can't use peddles without crippling pain in my legs due to spinal stenosis

For people who are still wondering if to buy this... DON'T, not right know. It's not even close to how the original Grid was. The game feels empty and just kinda half assed. A shame cause the original is one of my favourite all time games. I'm thinking about selling this one and going for Wreckfest. But somewhere I hope they give the game a big update and give it the glory it could have, the base is there!

The original grid was a great game that I could sit back and play with a controller. Some sims are so hard core you actually need a racing wheel to compete its nice to have games like this where you can just race and not theory craft an hour straight before playing.

Sounds like the proper sequel to the original grid. Never liked any of the iterations in between grid original and this game. One factor being the focus on drifting like it is an actual sport and not a clown show. As far as Sim racers go, one thing I would like to finally see is A.I. being affected by the same conditions that the player is affected by. This is one reason why I have enjoyed arcade racers over sim racers in the past because as soon as it rains or your brakes start to fade the A.I just blows past you in sim racers because no one can seem to code a racer where the A.I. is affected by the same conditions and not little more than slot cars on the track.

I have the original Grid on Steam and have a total of about 152 hours into it. I loved it! I'm glad Codemasters decided to keep the franchise alive and push out a newer version. It's the perfect time too because so many people have full on racing wheel setups. No doubt pulling the trigger on this. Getting tired of Division 2 anyway. Good vid, mate!

Great to see how this 2019 version stacks up to the 2009 version. The original is a gem, and it almost runs on a potato it's so well optimised. It's aged very well fair play, so I'd guess that this one will too. The sense of speed is bloody amazing, especially in the tighter circuits. Nice review.

Another nice feature of this is the livery editor. It doesn't have a full blown Forza style editor but it does let you choose from a selection of presets, then change every colour of that preset to your choice. You can also remove all sponsorship. It's a very nice touch.

They were giving Grid 2 away on Steam a couple of months ago or so. I ended up getting it and never remembered to play it until now, it's a great arcade racer so far. I'll probably end up giving Grid a shot once I'm tired of Grid 2.

100% leave the braking line on in games you don't know the courses, and remove them over time as you familiarize. If you're truly racing at full tilt with no assists, if you don't use the braking line you're going to find the wall very quickly. Either keep it on or find a way to practice to make yourself better

Career mode of this game is NO WHERE NEAR as good as the original one .if you like just racing sure it's fun . But if you like improving and getting sponsors and climbing ranks as the best season driver this game so far has not done any of it

Great review Mack again! :), I have bought it but it transpires that the retail version only has dx12 option whereas review copy (and pirated version!!) has dx11 and work better than retail version! this is affecting a lot of people who cant play the game, people who bought the game legit.. if you google search 'Access violation at address 0xce4a9b65 in module 'Grid_dx12.exe' + 0x7b9b65. Grid_dx12.exe' theres a ton of people with this problem.. I dont see why codemasters have done that! :(

Only someone who's never played Grid games before would say this game is good. This game has outdated graphics (looks exactly like Grid 2, sometimes even worse), half of the tracks are copy and pasted from previous games, same goes with the car liveries (doesn't even get close to the livery system in Forza or Gran Turismo), it doesn't have drift races or demolition derby, in multiplayer you can't create a custom open lobby and the career mode is basic as it gets, you just race the same cars on the same tracks over and over again for no real reason, there's no story or an actual end goal, no cinematics... nothing but mindless driving, it feels like a grind. And it's overpriced on top of that, if it was 30€ I would have been sort of fine with it.
