This is great. By the way, everytime I close the .geo file and reopen it it seems that it hasn't been saved. How can I fix this? Thanks

Nice tutorial! A very fine unstructured mesh quickly! Would have been happy to work along the tutorial with the cylinder.stl file as well :)

There are tons of free stl files online of simple shapes and more complex things. It is fun to try something similar or new.

Hello. Thank you for this video! Is it possible to import an already existing "mesh" from a different solver and retain it when importing into GMSH. I just want to apply boundary conditions and save in .inp format. Would appreciate your help
@SAEMiller2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure honestly. Suggest opening GMSH with the GUI and see what options they have for importing. I know they do STL etc. but converting an existing mesh might be difficult. I know that some packages like SALOME might be able to. Probably depends on the file format etc. Good luck.

Thank you for your great video. I have a questuon. As you can see in Tool > Statistics, when a 3-dimentional (Tetrahedra) is created, 2-dimentional (Triangleres) and 1-dimentional (line) is created simoneniously , Do not the elements other than 3D element numerical calculation such as FEM? If you know how to delete 2D and 1D element from model created by 3D element, I would like you to teach me.

Once I've exported a mesh is there an easy way to scale it? the .msh file seems to have meters as the unit but i need the mesh to be in mm.
@SAEMiller4 жыл бұрын
There is no real easy way to scale the mesh export file. I would suggest going back in GMSH and scaling the CAD or geometry to your desired dimension. Then re-create the mesh (settings should have been retained) and export the file again. This is why it is important to create a series of save files for each major step when creating meshes for CFD or other numerical analysis. Live and learn right!

Dear Professor, does 'Refine by splitting' refine the mesh by a factor of 1/4? I found a relation that, after every single refine by splitting, I found that nodes and the number of triangles increased by a factor of 4. Please give your comments on this and correct me if I am wrong.
@SAEMiller3 жыл бұрын
As a professor, I think I'm supposed to ask a question. If you have a tetrahedral, and you place a node inside it and create additional connectivity, how many more connections, nodes, and elements do you have? You see, refine by splitting has different meanings for different types of grids in different dimensions. Suggest trying a few different refinements on simple elements and you will see the results for yourself. You can make predictions in advance for extra fun!

@@SAEMiller Sir, I thank you for such a detailed and timely response to my query. You have made me to think about doing maths on my own and find the relations. Now I will do some more calculations and find the relations, as suggested by you. I am happy that I got such a quick response from you. It boosted my confidence. Regards, Pawan Kumar

could you please explain local refinement? Thank you!
@SAEMiller2 жыл бұрын
Local refinement just means that more grid points are added in a local region of the mesh.
