Really great bread testing! I was torn between the Loco and Halo but Halo, with it’s wind proof setup is probably my choice nicely done and thanks for sharing.

I do love that Halo but my Loco has not done me wrong or the old Blackstone. It was a fun test to do and interesting .

Halo really did a great job on designing this unit. They were started by two former Blackstone employees. The took all the negatives of the Blackstone and refined them into the Halo.

Great video. The bread test is great to see your zones and helps you to figure out which are hotter and cooler but with any cooking device you need some trial and error with actually cooking. Just like ovens you need trial and error what cooks great in one might not cook so good in another.

Instructive video. Like the loco but that halo is beast. Say just saying but a heat resisted gloves is needed. For grilling or the griddle. Keep making video's see what next.

I love my halo cuz it will get blistering hot. But I can turn off a burner and cook things at a lower temp if needed. I like that I can take away the heat if needed but adding that much heat is something not many can do. All while using less BTUs. Pretty impressive

I always hated cooking and never grilled cause I would undercook or burn everything, bought the loco as a impulse buy and I’ve cooked at least twice a day on it for almost a month and haven’t messed 1 thing up. I call it training wheels but everyone that has seen it loves it as do I. Found a new passion for grilling

I love my Loco. The thermostatically controlled burners are a nice feature. You can do so much more with a griddle over a grill. I'm glad you are really enjoying it. Thanks for watching.

The one thing I WISH you did was, when the test was complete and bread flipped over... you should have taken like colored pairs of toast and compare the surface temps underneath the pairs. By doing this, you can get a sense 9f not just 5he hot-cool zones, but to how much those different areas climbed by the time 9f completion. You might have found that ending temps (for the most burnt) was 75-100-150F higher. Doing this gives a similar test temperature scoring the way litmus paper changes different shades depending on the pH of the fluid being tested. That's a good tool to have other than hot/cold zones. I think bread toasts at 450F. So, anything still white didn't even reach that temperature when parts of the grill got scorching hot. Burning occurs when heat removes all moisture leaving the fibers unprotected to heat. 8f a flame starts, then the food has changed from food to fuel as it's reached combustion temperature.

I'm sure the Halo was the hottest followed by the Blackstone. The Loco is thermostatically controlled so it stays where it's set at. I would love to get a 2nd gen Loco to see if it was improved with their new burner design.

Any chance you can test those grills against some wind? The halo looks like it might do the best
@griddlecookeatandmore
@griddlecookeatandmore Жыл бұрын
Halo is pretty much wind proof. The Loco does pretty well also as it's got steel bars welded to the top to stop wind. As for the Blackstone you are screwed.

Watched your video on the Loco when you first got it, now this one. This is good and was a little disappointed with the results of the Loco with the cold spots. Still interested and glad you threw in the Treager, that is the other one I am the most interested in. I mentioned the background noise the last time. This video was much more enjoyable without it, could hear and understand you much better, thank you.

The old Blackstone did not do too bad. It is hot in the middle but the heat is pretty spread out on the griddle. The Halo did take the win on its across the board heat

I think the Blackstone and Halo may have looked artificially uniform due to the extra heating
@griddlecookeatandmore

The reason the Halo and Blackstone are way darker/ burnt is they have manual burners that keep heating. The Loco has thermostatically controlled burners. You set the temp and think I set it at 350 degrees in this video. The burners will turn off and on to maintain 350 degrees. The Halo and Blackstone were well into the 400 to 500 degree range. This video really showcases the Loco burner system. You can actually hear the burners turning on and off.

I’m debating between this Halo the traeger and Weber. How does the heat distribute with temps if both side burners are on lowest setting?
@griddlecookeatandmore
@griddlecookeatandmore 3 ай бұрын
Do you mean both outside burners on and the 2 in the middle off?
@jleimb

@griddlecookeatandmore

You're outside will be around 450 and right the middle high 200's to low 300's. I will run outside burners on high and it will put the middle around 350 to 375. I do this to make Pizza.

lol. You really can’t test this way. You’re not managing the temperature on the non thermostat grills. Look at that bread. Clearly they achieved temperatures well above 350 whereas the Loco maintained 350 the entire way. You can accomplish this by simply using your laser thermometer to check the grill temp along the away.
@griddlecookeatandmore
@griddlecookeatandmore 9 ай бұрын
The test was just to show the hotspots and how even the heat is across the griddle. The bonus was seeing how the Loco's temp control works. Nobody is going to try to regulate a non thermostatic controlled griddle to a specific temp. You may turn a one burner on and one off next to it if you want cooler temps other than that you set it to where you want and let it go.
