Here are excerpts from two songs.
“Vyturys” is the Eurasian Skylark. This small brown bird climbs into the sky, becoming first just a silent speck, and then a very loud speck as he sings all the way down. The song is about the bird and this behavior. IMHO it also is about the diaspora now as Lithuanians leave to find jobs.
“Kelias į Mokyklą” is the other side of this diaspora, simply, “the path to my schoolhouse is my path to the world.” Sung by one child it is an earnest statement of hope. Sung by 2,000 of these focused, well adjusted, ambitious young people, in the age of globalization, it sounds more like a manifesto: Old Europe, ready or not, here I come for your good job.
