In episode 7 of SSSS.Gridman, Sky Vitter's "Laser Circus Amp" attack is a reference to Ichiro Itano's signature 'Itano Circus' which is featured prominently in the Macross Franchise and replicated in Eureka 7 (which a few of the animators of SSSS Gridman had previously worked on e.g. Ken Ootsuka).

I mean the trope is called the macross missile massacre for a reason. Often imitated yet never surpassed. Though how you missed Homing Laser! Is beyond me. I know it's a finger beam but you know what I'm talkin bout.

None of the Gridman animators nor Itano worked on Gunbuster. Also, try showing me a scene of the STMC *DODGING* the Homing Laser as agile or as quickly as how it was shown in this video. Or how about showing me a scene of Gunbuster doing a *CIRCULAR SPIN* when it does its Homing laser?

I was mostly talking from an effects standpoint. The homing laser is intentionally unavoidable like Darkside's omega beams but to the average joe shooty laser that arcs and hits the bad guy all start to look the same. Still I'll miss this when the series ends. This has been one deculture ride.

To be fair, the missiles in traditional Itano Circus doing like 180 degree turns and chasing people is also not how missiles work. Like, at all. Missiles in reality typically only make small course adjustments over the course of their flight to ensure they hit their targets, and at most will typically only make like 45 degree curves, and if they miss their target they're spent and don't continue to magically pursue. Being critical of homing lasers when the missiles are also behaving outside the laws of physics is pretty funny. xD
