Ya'll cutting the album up, Silly humans. Music is art and self expression... This guy is expressing how he feels in his life right now and mad props to that. Very happy this dropped because it hits home ! Cheers

I've been following Grieves since almost the beginning, and I remember the hurt and struggle he put into that music. Now i see people not liking his music or even hating it. I understand why, people want the same stuff, but People grow up and so do artists. Grieves is human and Growing up with his music. I love it!

This is definitely different for Grieves, but it's not hard to tell how much he's been improving and putting so much more into his music. Most of the songs on the album give me vibes that he has moved on from his darker days, and I'm so glad to hear some music so refreshing and new. Cheers to Grieves. Solid album. Can't wait to see him live
@BigdaddiZ7 жыл бұрын
Not what I was expecting but thats alright. When we think of a Grieves album we tend to think of a deep, self reflecting, often self loathing, darker feeling album. This has a much lighter feel to it, but maybe that just goes to show his growth as a person, and it speaks to the season he is in in his life. Not to say he won't return to his darker ways but He has different problems then he used to and because he is genuine in his music, it reflects that. I still fuck with you grieves. You got me through some dark times over the years but I'm in a better place right now and its good to see you are too. Keep keeping it 100

As someone who hasn't listened to Grieves before and doesn't really know his previous style (and I understand you might not like it, if you really digged his old style). I love how chill yet 'full' it sounds, with the real smooth beats and stuff. Definitely an up and coming sound as well IMO. So far am enjoying greatly.

Drove from Kentucky to Fifth Ave just to see him when this album came out. The acoustics of that venue are so freaking perfect and the bass on some of these songs hit so hard, my whole body was vibrating. That venue could make anyone almost sound good and it was one of my favorite shows.

I listen to the new album several times now and its getting better with every new loop. Sometimes it is ab BIT to soft and slow. But in general its super well produced and i enjoy listening to it. Rey of Silence agreed!! I thought Winter and the Wolves was even more happy sounding than this one ! Gutz stands out to me on this because it has more of that dark sound.. I think his best work was 88 Keys..luck be a lady, Oct in the graveyard, bottom of the bottle.. my faves. I've liked all hes done.. but to varying degrees. I will say.. I've never found any of it to have quite the same touch since he stopped working with Budo.. they were magic together, really worked as a duo. I've never liked the production quite as much since, and i know MOST people feel the same :(

Rey of Silence I agree with everything you said for the most part. I felt the same way about a few of Brother Ali's albums a while back. Glad to hear their new music regardless, but felt like it was missing something. The replayability just wasn't there either...Then he dropped his Left in the deck mixtape and it was like the feeling was back in the music

The debate going on in these comments reminds me of the last verse on Molecules by Aes. Dudes make a name for themselves making "dark" music which in turn gives them some success and happiness, must be a strange double edged sword to deal with. Doesn't bother me, I got mad love for RSE thru and thru. Keep it up Grieves, I'm buying a ticket next time you come to the Bay Area!

You can hear Brother Ali's style's influence on Ben. Two tracks in and this is dope! Loving the beats.
@amiratilly59005 жыл бұрын
like, how? you obviously don't mean lyrically. Musically, brother ali's "style" is technically Anthony Davis (ant) Jacob Dutton (jake one) and Robert Mandell, but grieves has never worked with them and neither has this album's co-producer, Chords. You can definitely hear Chords' style in this, and the style influences of grieves' grandfather and father for sure. Doesn't Brother Ali just rap?
@amiratilly59005 жыл бұрын
Tragic is actually a really good example why I'm asking doesn't Brother Ali just rap? Budo made the music, Grieves is credited with writing the lyrics and Brother Ali is just performing one of the verses Grieves wrote. (Even if Brother Ali had written the verse he's performing --he definitely didn't --but if he had, we'd have to say we can hear Grieves' influence on Brother Ali's style (at least on Tragic) --rain...the blues...knives...and obvs no one mistakes Ali for a "boy."
