this song means a lot to me. it helps me remember my nan. back in 2009 when i was 4 years old, she was diagnosed with severe dementia and alzheimer's. it was so hard for me, i don't remember what she was like before she became ill. the disease meant that she found lots of simple things very difficult, and i have many distressing memories of outbursts and confusion that she suffered. however, in amongst her bad days, she was the life and soul of every party, special occasion, or family gathering and always knew how to make you smile. she spoilt me and my little brother.. she was so sweet and kind and would never judge anyone for anthing. she was a role model to me and i've always looked up to her. she rapidly deteriorated and on 8th June 2019, we lost her after a tough 10 year battle with her illness. tears are streaming down my face while i write this. i was so close with her.. she was my world. her death hit me really hard, and i have never felt any pain like it. i would breakdown into tears in classes in school, i still do. every little thing reminds me of her and can trigger memories that make me wish i could hug her and tell her how much i love her one last time. i suffered to come to terms with the fact that i'd never again see her, hug her, hear her infectious laugh.. i wasn't allowed to see her before her death.. i feel so guilty because of that. i have my dark days.. but every time i feel like giving up, i listen to this song on repeat and i remember what she'd always say to me: "no matter where you go, what you do in life, i will always be with you to guide you". i miss her so much.. it's been well over a year and the knowing i'll never see her again still stings just as much as it did the day i found out she'd passed. "moments, they mean everything" - never take anything for granted, especially family and friends. the world can be cruel.. you never know when you'll share your last conversation, joke, hug with them. love them with all you have, as horrible as it sounds it's sadly true - they can be torn away from you faster than you can blink

I know exactly how you feel; my grandmother and mother were the same and my situation was just like yours plus I was / am so far away from them, serving overseas. Read my reply to Angela Lee below your post too, similar. You must _not_ feel guilty, you did nothing wrong. She would have understood completely, and believe me, not wanted you to see her "as she was" just before she passed. Trust me. She would want you to remember her as she was to you, not at the end. Show this wisdom to your teacher, your coach or Rabbi, someone you trust and they will agree with me. So smile and remember her as she was, talk about her and what she did...all the silly, funny things because that way, she will live on in your heart. It sounds strange, but be happy that you had such a lovely person in your life to guide you, as did I with mine...we are both lucky. She will ALWAYS be there in your heart and in your memories with you. God bless.

My grandpa had just passed away a few weeks ago. He had stroke 5 years ago when I was an international exchange student in the US and wasn't there for that. I'm now currently studying abroad so couldn't go back and see him one last time either. I haven't really "cried" over it until the pre-chorus and chorus of this song hit me. I was thinking about him and this song started to play on my phone (I've had this song in my library for a while, I love Griff♡) The whole chorus was like he was talking to me, and I bursted out crying before I knew it. When she sings about setting my sails (for me, it was to seek fortune), and "I'd do it all again", that's so "me and her". My case, she _was_ my compass and guiding light, we were SO close.
