Great tips. I"m at that point where my small rolling carts are too small but a full blown production cart is too much hassle so I'm looking for anything I can do to stay organized on location. One thing I've done is create videos of my cases and how they're packed that i can send to PAs that I hire. They seem to appreciate it and if I put some whack comment toward the end I can usually tell if they've watched the video or not... good help is hard to fine in my town! Keep up the great work - Rave on!

Griffin - Great video. Definitely the most useful one of it's kind I've seen. I'm in the midst of a long-overdue gear reorganization at the moment, and I will certainly be implementing some of your ideas, particularly the color code/inventory list for each kit. Thanks for sharing!

I had my first really big shooting about month ago and even though I have just a fraction of your gear, the car trunk was still full of it. I had my gear split into several types - lights and light modifiers (stands, bounce boards, filters, ...), audio (mikes, headphones, various cables, etc.) video-related stuff and others (slider, tripods, steadicam, ...), all color-coded (blue=audio, red=video). It helped me a lot to have things properly organized as there was a relatively small time window to shoot everything. Of course this wouldn't have worked if I hadn't prepared the list of takes. Why am I telling this? I thought I was organized and well-prepared - but you and your video have shown me that I am at the very start of what good organization actually means. Labelling all the gear is one of the things that is pretty awesome! Definitely will do. Griffin, I love your behind the scenes and insightful videos! Thanks for that!

Great video Griffin! Funny stuff I have the exact same tape on the outside of my Peli Air's too :) -- On flights though the tape would start getting scrapped off with handling, So I reapplied the tape but in the grooves around the edge of the peli, so its impossible for the tape to wear off over time ( and it looks cleaner too) -- Keep up the great content!

I love this kind of info, it's as valuable as gear. My anxiety and stress doesn't come from the shoot, it comes from when I'm swapping lenses, media, filters, batteries and it's unorganized. ...Im ready to have a stroke. Since I'm a one man band I use a rolling tool bag that Husky makes and you can find at Home Depot for any type of grip equipment, extension cords, tape, etc.

@@GriffinConway I use both the cards and the stickers and tried some bus card size stickers for my larger cases when travelling. How have you found the small stickers hold up? I find mine fall apart within a year (laminate comes off), not a huge issue as they are cheap and easy to replace, but I think the big ones are tougher. I do work mostly in tropical areas, Thailand and SEA so if you are in a drier climate you may get more use out of them. I went for a bright colour so I can quickly spot my stuff. They fit on almost everything.

Hey Ferhan, totally get you on that one. For a long time I was in the same boat. What pushed me over the edge to make dedicated “kits” for everything was the feeling you get when you leave for out of town shoots and you are always wondering if you have every cable/adpter/clamp etc haha. It’s always the little things that get me.

Great video. I love to stay organized. I label all of my kit with a brother P touch label maker. My wife mocks me but it sure is nice knowing which lens cap goes with which lens. Before a big shoot I like to take everything out of the bags and vacuum out the inside of the bags and the inside of the truck. It gives me a chance to think things through, charge all batteries, and get any stuff out of the bags that do not belong in them. I would love to have an Innovative cart but it's a bit pricey for me so I work with a Rock 'N' Roller. Added a shop built shelf to the top of it. Heavy stuff goes on the bottom. Lighter kit goes on the top. I like Pelican for my lighting kit, Think Tank for camera gear. Everything is on wheels as nothing gets lighter at the end of the day. Always do a final walk through to make sure I did not leave anything behind. One other piece of kit that saves me is a headlamp such that when it is dark I can rig up my kit, or break it down and find it all.
@GriffinConway
@GriffinConway 3 жыл бұрын
Love this Joe! We are cut from the same cloth. Rock n rollers are a great option as well. The inovativ price was a bitter pill to swallow haha. I also do a end of the day walkthrough (I call it the "dummy check"), and I use a headlamp for cleanup on exterior evening shoots as well. Thanks for watching Joe!
@BryantNaro

Oh my dude, just budget for the inovativ whenever you can (I know that's easier said than done, but for real). I used a rock n roller with a top shelf and grip and gaff bag for like 10 years. Still have it, replaced the wheels a few times, but it's great. But the inovativ truly is next level. It's so easy to move heavy equipment around, and as Griffin Conway mentions, it's like your own little camera island to work from. Absolutely a game changer, I wish I had bought mine years ago. Bonus: It's flight ready.

Thanks for your great content! How do you like the Sachtler cinema camera bag? I just rigged up a C200 and I'm indecisive of which case or bag to buy. I'm looking at Pelican 1510 and this Sachtler bag. It seems it could be a lot easier to put the whole rigged camera into the bag instead of the case.
@GriffinConway
@GriffinConway 4 жыл бұрын
Jiakai Lou thanks a lot! I own a pelican 1510 and I own 2 of the Sachtler bags that I have linked in the description. Since buying the Sachtler bags I haven’t used my 1510. It is so much note convenient to leave camera fully assembled. It makes the case way more usable, versus having to strip it all the way down to fit in the pelican. I just found myself putting my camera strapped in with the seatbelt on my front seat instead of using the case when I tried to use the pelican since it took too long to break it down every time.
