Something I really like about these tutorials is that instead of just telling us what to do, you instead show us steps to get to that finalized mechanic. It really makes it feel like we’re learning with you and it’s unlike anything that I’ve seen (as a casual amateur scratch coder)

I will say this once to my demotivated scratchers out there, not all platformers have to scroll. Sure, it's common but that doesn't mean it has to apply to your game as well. The man did his magic, just hear him out.

Griffpatch, your amazing. You are the most followed scratcher on scratch, and the best scratcher ever in my opinion. Not only that, but I believe you are also the best teacher on scratch as well. That is *extremely* rare to have someone the best at something also be the best teach of it. Because of this, you are able to bring up any level of scratcher higher in their knowledge of scratch. Your amazing Griffpatch, so keep using your gift for God! I think that's so cool that you play the drums for your church!!

What I find most captivating about these tutorials is their departure from mere directives; instead, they intricately unravel each step leading to the final mechanic. This method fosters a profound sense of collaborative discovery and immersion, elevating it beyond any other resource I’ve encountered in my exploration as a casual amateur Scratch coder.

Nice to meet you, Mr. Griffpatch! I'm Japanese and I'm commenting through a translator, so I apologize if I'm rude. I'm 16 years old now and have been self-taught in Scratch since I was about 12 years old, and I've been passionate about making my own games! However, I've recently hit a dead end, and I was looking for a solution on social media. Then, by chance, I found you, who I often saw on Scratch, on KZbin. Your videos gave me hope in my creative endeavors, which had hit a dead end! I'd like to take this opportunity to express my immense gratitude!

Can't believe I was able to make guy crouch! he has two costumes. A squashed one and a default one which is normal. In the green flag click (under right arrow pressed) if-else: down arrow pressed/ set| ACCELERATION to 0.8 switch costume to| costume 2 else: set ACCELERATION to 2 switch costume to guy I am a little worried for when he's in a tunnel that is required to crouch in that cause a ton of collisions... Thanks griffpatch for the video! so us inexperienced scratchers have a chance! :D

Hey, griffpatch. I love to see you're still making tutorial videos. That is great, and as always, they're super helpful! But the reason I am writing this comment, is to urge you to host some sort of game jam, so we can test our abilities to code in a certain time period. If you could do that, it would make a learning experience for everyone, and make my day. Thank you, and have a great day!

If you have a non-integer speed and use the repeating function and all the rest of it, things will be slightly unstable, but I guess that's negligible enough for you. If you have a text sheet for the vector graphics, you can probably use a mechanism based on rigid lines and calculations rather than pixel grids, which would be far more precise, but we haven't and probably can't cover that at the moment. TFW you use the same sentence structure twice in a row: *bruh* (-_-)
@griffpatch

I did notice I had done that. The best solution is just to wrap the abs speed x & y in a round () block, but... I don't think it will actually cause any problems in reality

I made the player blink every once in a while by making a when green flag clicked, forever, if pick random 1 to 100 = 1 then, switch costume to Mid, wait 0.05 seconds, switch costume to closed, wait 0.1 seconds, switch costume to mid, wait 0.05 seconds, switch costume to open. Outside of the if loop, I put wait 0.05. Seconds. Also, if you make his eyes closer together it will make him look cartoonish and cute. If you make him look ALMOST cross eyed, it makes him look even better!

At the start I was like oh that’s easy but then when you got to the part abs of speed y. I didn’t get anything Maybe this is not for me :( I still like your channel.
@griffpatch
@griffpatch 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I wish I'd explained that bit better - Let me try: • So if speed y is -10, then the player is about to travelling down by 10 pixels. • Instead of doing this in one big jump, we want to do this in 10 small steps of -1 pixels. • Steps should always be positive... you can't repeat over -10 steps , so we need to change our speed y of -10 to be 10 steps... • We can do this with abs(speed y)... since abs(-10) = 10... It just removes the minus! • Then since steps = 10. We can now divide the full distance we want to travel into that many equally sized smaller chunks: • Change y by "speed y" / steps. (This will be -10 / 10... Which is -1 - Ta da!!! )
