@@DuranmanX There are different kinds of faith in the monarchy. While people may have lacked faith in the Tsar and his wife, they likely still had faith that once they died their son would have taken up the title and potentially made things right. Revealing your sole heir is inflicted with a life-threatening condition would've shattered any faith remaining, as then people, particularly politicians who can gain large followings and want to know the best bet for them, have no idea what will happen once the rulers die, meaning they may just back a rebellion to make sure that they'll still be on top no matter what, as opposed to waiting for them to die and hope whatever civil war/succession crisis happens leaves them on top.

You forgot a bit about Rasputin's assassination attempt; the timing of the attempt meant Rasputin was out of action when the assassination of Prince Franz Ferdinand set in motion the events of WW1. By the time he had recovered and got back to St. Petersburg, Tsar Nicholas II had given the order to mobilize the Russian Army, thus irreversibly starting the First World War. Basically, the injury meant he couldn't be there to talk Nicholas II out of starting the war. Maybe he could have succeeded, maybe he couldn't. But basically, he could have prevented the Russians from going into a war they were woefully unprepared for.

If only doctors back then knew aspirin is a blood thinner. By the way, why didn't they use opium as painkiller instead, I ask this because a lot of modern painkillers are opioids and opium has been around for a long time.
@chedelirio69843 жыл бұрын
Probably seeking the antiinflammatory and fever-reducing effect as well. And probably an excess of caution to not put the prince on opiates.

Was the gray-bearded Duma member with glasses that appeared throughout the video supposed to represent Alexander Guchkov? Because if so, he was my second great uncle who was the president of the fourth Duma and who hated Rasputin so much that the tsarina suggested hanging him.

I knew that most of the history about rasputin was a tall tale, but now that you say that the newspapers had a monetary incentive, I think that they could have been a little taller, basically everything that can be said for sure is that he helped some how to cure alexis' disease and got the favour of the royal family, everything else is a gray area.

@5:20 - OK, I'm confused here. How would a jolting carriage ride start another hemophilia episode? I get the condition makes blood clotting stupidly difficult but that would mean something would have to cut him. Does the condition make internal bleeding happen at random as well?
@DDlambchop43 Жыл бұрын
the condition basically affects platelets; that makes ANY bleeding dangerous. even internally, in fact that could be worse than a cut.

Wait... so it was RASPUTIN of all people who told the Romanovs "hey maybe this war thing is a bad idea". Maybe if the Romanovs actually *DID* take governing cues from Rasputin maybe the Soviet Union wouldn't have even happened. History really is ironic that way isn't it?

I wonder if it's actually possible that he had some suspicions about the negative side effects of aspirin on little Alexei's condition and perhaps even had some idea about the positive effect of a healthy mental health state on your physical health, but felt that he couldn't share such ideas with the medical professionals due to both his reputation and his poor education/social class and thus figured they wouldn't believe him?
@napoleonibonaparte71983 жыл бұрын
Had the Romanovs been a bit more open with the problem of Alexei, this whole series of events wouldn’t have been that bad.

It really looks like Rasputin actually did bring down the Russian Dynasty. Not really because of anything he did, but because the stories and secrecy surrounding him helped fuel thoughts of revolution.
@M.E.ANDHistory3 жыл бұрын
Rasputin was only a symptom that led to the end of the Romanovs. There were SEVERAL issues that were present WELL BEFORE the Mad Monk entered the picture (a list too long to mention here).
