And Hunter Hearst Helmsley is a great name. It has a regal touch which worked well with his snob persona. And, when it was time to evolve, he had the benefit of like many other well-known wrestlers (AA, JJ), to go by his initials.

I mean just like most of the WWF gimmicks back then it wasn’t much different than what the guys were already doing in WCW. Diamond Studd > Razor is another example

Actually his versatility was proven with the blue blood gimmick…being yourself and using your personality, having fun with your buddies isn’t versatile. It’s natural 🤦♂️

HHH did a good job during his time in WWE/WWF of constantly modifying his character to keep it fresh. Much like The Undertaker.

Jericho was great at character modification as well. When the Y2J gimmick became stale after his return in late 2007, he turned heel on Michaels and had an incredible feud with him. It brought something totally new to the table in terms of his character, mannerisms, demeanor, and promo style.

The original character was just a twist on the one he was doing in the end in WCW. For a long time, he was mocked for being a 'Lord' Steven (William) Regal rip-off.

Yes and no, whilst it's heavily based off the WCW character, it was decided he'd be turned New England American as Vince thought it would be impossible long term to make a French Baby-face, especially when Triple H can't speak that language despite having a French-Canadian last name (He has ancestors from Québec)

I was Vince McMahon who created it. Triple H said in an interview that Vince said he hated his neighbors and that's how he came up with the gimmick.

Actually that makes it more gimmick infringement. It means they took Triple H's entire WCW presentation and simply changed the name. That was the basis for their own lawsuit against WCW when Scott Hall was still doing Razor Ramon things (despite him also doing that in WCW first as Diamond Studd).

The name sounds like a name that came from the wrestler to me. The choice of initials told me it was created by someone who was REALLY thinking about the ramifications and implications of having the famous initials of America's first serial killer. Pretty sure he got the gimmick from Lord Steven Regal and the Blue Bloods since he tagged with him briefly in WCW. Later he stole Shane Douglas's look and promo style. I say stole because it's pretty blatant and obvious. Also "the game" was supposed to go to Owen Hart but unfortunately he passed away. So to say HHH is original and full of ideas is straight up laughable.

He did say he volunteered for Owen's gimmick after he died as a tribute to Owen. But idk you think Owen would have been able to be a major figure with everyone else from attitude Era. Trips can adapt quickly to and make it look good and believable.
