i got a bit self indulgent with some of the rants in this video. hopefully they make you laugh. talking about devotion points and staying awake was real tough. I joke about alcoholism in the video because I'm funny but it's a serious matter. Alcoholics Anonymous operates in many countries, give them a ring if you need it. They even do virtual meetings now. No this doesn't effect me, I don't really enjoy alcohol unless it's a fruity cider and I can't even drink that because I want to get beach ready. yes i know im insane

So I wasn't familiar with this youtuber (I don't actually watch much youtube) but holy smokes that is sad to hear. I put this in because Captain Bourbon is of course, an easy joke about drink, but I also want people to know I think laughing about something together helps us beat it. Laughing at my weight drove me to want to change it. I dunno maybe the jokes are in poor taste, but I think humour is the best form of awareness. SORRY long winded reply. For new players watching, you'll have an easier time in the early game if you just max out one attack skill of choice first and use that to fight. You should be able to easily 1 hit kill entire pack of enemies with a maxed attack skill. Very detailed review of the game. The base game quests and areas are already great, but the exploration of hidden areas and secret side quests are my favorite parts of the game, most of which are only available or accessible on Ultimate difficulty. There are entire secret quest lines tied to these areas and most of them will lead to secret bosses with unique rewards. I also like how smooth Grim Dawn made it to level up your alternate characters after your first. Factions will sell Mandates when you reach maximum reputation with them. You can buy these and store in the shared stash to be used on your other new characters. These will double reputation gain with factions, making the reputation progress much smoother, without needing to grind reputation through bounty quests.

I love this advice because it's absolutely true, and I did the exact opposite every time haha. I am the worst sort of player, I had a dozen abilities, all very weak. Love it. The secret areas are so nice. I think something is lost in the procedurally generated arpgs. Sure once you've found a secret you know where it is forever, but finding that hand placed location is worth it I think. And of course, the rewards! It's the smoothest implementation of alt-gearing I've seen. Only now decades later World of Warcraft is addressing this. I know the comparison is insane but GD is perfect for replayability with alts, without making you bang your head against a wall, so I couldn't agree more. Let me also say thank you for taking the time out of your day to watch and comment, I really do appreciate that! So thank you!

I think it's important to always be honest if someone might spend money on a game I've talked about. So while I play some bits up for laughs, I am sincere and, well if I hated the game I wouldn't bother making a 2 hour video rofl. Grim Dawn is my favorite ARPG ever. Bought it a few years back, sunk 3,7k hours between vanilla, Reign of Terror (the Diablo 2 recreation mod) and D3 classes mod. Levelled tens of characters with many more builds that I still didn't build. It's a beautiful and addicting game and... I think I wanna boot it up now and smack some foes with lightning-infused icy meteors on my main character!
@reallylatereviews
@reallylatereviews 25 күн бұрын
That lightning/ice combo is why I love this game, so much freedom to do whatever you want. That is a lot of playtime so I really respect that gosh, I feel like GD is a game you can have endless fun with as well. I know I was filming but I also played the game just for fun and my playtime quickly went up I wanted to talk more about the mods but I was starting to run into the 4th month of editing rofl, so I kept it short. The Reign of Terror mod looks fun and true to what I've seen of Diablo, I will have to try it some day. I'm going on and on, I apologise but let me say thank you for watching! And commenting too! I always love when more KZbin content comes out about Grim Dawn. I have about 150 hours in it right now and I’m still going. I’m at the Forgotten Gods expansion on Elite, on my way to clear the whole game on Ultimate. Then I’m gonna make a Spellbreaker that focuses on cold damage. No other game has hooked me quite like Grim Dawn.

Somebody likes the Aether Ray as much as I do. I did an Arcanist / Demolitionist build, roleplaying as a former Rover who went to live and teach at the capital and nerd out over old Rhowari history when the big GD happened. I think the game calls that combo "sorcerer", but as I used the Aether Ray to hose my way through the Arkovian underground so that my cursed ancestors could finally be laid to rest, that wasn't how I thought of it. I was a dark fantasy _ghostbuster._ And bustin' makes me feel good.

Holy SMOKES that sounds cool. That is great rofl. The ghostbuster archetype that's perfect. I can understand though, it's a very satisfying way to play and I bet coupled with demo even more destructive! I'm a big fan of stories created around characters, I think it helps get into the game. Sometimes it's more satisfying in games where no backstory is provided for your character, because you can truly come up with anything you like. Ex-Rover Ghostbuster, love it I'll quickly add thank you for watching, commenting and sharing this! I love character stories, so thank you!

Great review! Not sure if it was mentioned but don't forget about Faction Augments at Honored and Revered Rep. Added along with components they can be attached to any piece of gear for insane amounts of further item customization. They really help fill gaps in your resistances and are essential for Hardcore mode imo. They give a real purpose to the faction bounty tables because you want to rush for the Revered Rare Augments with all factions. I went far too long without realizing the power of Faction Augments myself. Grim Dawn changed my opinion on Hardcore mode in general with how fair it is in the challenge with a bit of game knowledge.

Ayyyy thank you! So DarkRaven I gotta confess I cut things out of this video. Challenge dungeons like the Steps of Torment Anguish department, I had jokes about that. Erm probably the augments as well. Oh theres that whole other page of stats that I did not want to even crack open. To tell you the truth I was still discovering things while I finished this video, like rare components. The rare augments are something I used, I really liked the utility and variety they presented and paired with reputation requirements for many of them. Every system in this game is linked flawlessly, it's almost like a joke that other games can't do this as smoothly. I respect you going hardcore I don't think I have the guts for that rofl, but I believe it's one of the more fair hardcores out there Wow I really went on there but let me please just add thank you! Any ARPG gamer that haven't checked out Grim Dawn is absolutely insane. I often get surprised by new fearures and QoL every time I come back to it, just shows how much the developers and community cares for it. As always your review and video format is on point mate. I'd just like to point out that Titan Quest is the father of Grim Dawn, Crate was founded by former TQ devs and both games share the same engine. Might be something you'd like to check out if you haven't yet. Just be mindful that the upcoming Titan Quest 2 is gonna be from different devs. Oh, and yea they love weapon proc skills! First off let me say thank you ChemicaaLz for coming back. Thank you. I probably have said this before but seeing someone come back to watch is why I keep making these, so thank you so much for your kind words. That's lovely to hear as well, it feels like Grim Dawn is one of those games that will just endure long after any fanfare has gone because of the players, and devs who clearly want to keep it alive. And I did not know this, or that they used the same engine, that's crazy. Crazier still because I tried Titan Quest years ago and to be honest it felt wooden so I never got very far. I might have to give it a second chance now though that you've said this because it may have been that at the time I could not fathom standing still to hit something rofl I have Titan Quest on Steam already, I think they merged them into the Anniversary edition. I will definitely go back to check it out but truth be told if I decide to review it, I'm taking a break for real life and also from RPGs, at least for now. They take so long haha! Titan Quest 2 hmm I'll keep an eye on that too :D I'm glad someone else loves the weapon proc skills haha! I think that's so clever I really do. Having played this for the better part of the last decade (and even taking my handle from my favorite Witch God!), many of the observations you made have been lost on me over time. This video made me nostalgic, bringing back every memory I've had the first time I played the game. Much of what I know and have experienced are pretty much on par with other vets in that we've seen the game evolve slowly over the last decade and probably would have made us jaded to a degree. I know it did me. At some point, I just looked forward to the next patch, anticipating if my favorite build is going to get the Zantai Stamp of Nerfing, or if there are new QOLs will make my RSI bearable. Your review successfully dredged wonderful memories, chief among them my initial observations about skills as well (I dropped countless F-bombs the moment I used Aether Ray the first time!). I keep telling people, Grim Dawn is _the_ best ARPG of all time, and I have lived enough to have played D1 on launch day and do all those Baal runs in D2:LOD in early high school. Somehow, the years have taken away a lot of the reasons _why_ I loved and still love the game, but I remember them all again. Good job on making old men like me giddy looking forward to Fangs of Asterkarn. Here's to a few more thousand hours. Softly holding you to a follow-up review once the expansion is out. ;)

Gosh holy smokes. I dunno quite what to say. I feel the nerf sentiments in my soul having played a mage on WoW for years. Before finally saying fuck it they hate fire mage so I will go protection paladin rofl. Different vibe than Grim Dawn I think. But to everything else you said, just thank you for sharing. I really think this is my favourite top down arpg, the only reasons it hasn't eclisped my PoE playtime yet is because real life, other games and truth be told there is a point making these videos where you've been playing one game for months and you need a break. Even with all that, I'm still doing a few totem runs to farm Stormrend. So I agree with you is what I'm saying ya know, it plays like a labour of love. I also respect the Solael rep. This is one of tha rare instances I'll do an on time review of Asterkarn, it will still be months out of date no doubt :D Sorry for rambling, last thing to add is thank you! Fantastic video! Grim Dawn is my personal favorite ARPG of all time. It was a lot of fun seeing a fresh player's perspective after playing it for thousands of hours myself. I highly recommend checking out the modded community leagues if you want more content. Each season adds tons of cool new loot to experiment with, and the last one even added a full new act.

Ayyyy well first off, please let me say thank you for watching and commenting. I'm always grateful to hear kind words, but when an existing fan of a game leaves them it stops my worries over the video a bit :D I want nothing more than to do these great games justice and be respectful to their fans, and Grim Dawn is just phenomenal, so thank you, I hope I did it justice! Holy smokes thousands of hours I can believe it though. My playtime in Grim Dawn quickly shot up, it's the second longest playtime in my reviewed games. I had a quick look at the modded leagues but I'd been working on the video since November, and it was already 2 hours rofl. So I wanted to call it a day. But I will be doing my best to make a video for Asterkarn, and I'll also do my best to check those out. I love that the community has created events like this, that is lovely. I would have tried those modded masteries but I really didn't want to mess with my saves until I'd got Stormrend lol I'm rambling but I want to say thank you again, I really do appreciate you taking the time to comment, thank you!

Great video! Glad you've been enjoying the game! Some quick notes/corrections: - Hope you're still holding on to that Salt Bag you spawn with at level 1! I hear there's a good use for it in Ultimate! (Spoilers ahead: (Grim Dawn and its two expansions each have a 'Secret Quest' only available in Ultimate difficulty. Each one is something of a comment on the game's development at the time. Grim Dawn's secret quest is a parody of the Early Access process. Ashes of Malmouth makes a comment on the rampant datamining (e.g., grimtools) and modding that occurred between the game's release and the first expansion. Forgotten Gods's secret quest is an homage to Crate Entertainment as a whole while adding 'puzzles' that run counter to the way the community had been building endgame characters until then. If you decide to pursue these quests, I'd recommend making sure your character is in tip-top shape!)) - At some point you mention the 'On-Attack' proc archetype being able to activate from pets and retaliation damage. Pet-scaling pets do not trigger their player's On-Attack/Crit/Kill procs. Player-scaling pets do. Each summon in the game specifies whether it is Pet-scaling or Player-scaling. Thermite Mines, Inquisitor Runes, or Shaman Wind Devils, for instance, are Player-scaling. Necromancer Skeletons and Occultist Hellhounds, however, are Pet-scaling. I'm unsure about retaliation damage triggering On-Attack effects. Worth noting, however, that an ability does not need to deal damage to be an Attack (or to Crit). Occultist's Curse of Frailty is GREAT at activating On-Attack effects because every time it 'ticks' and applies its debuff on any enemy, it rolls the chance to trigger such an effect. Non-damaging debuffs like this can also Crit! (- For the purposes of triggering On-Crit effects; a debuff critting does nothing inherently for the debuff itself) - Best of luck finding Stormrend! It has an increased chance to drop from Monster Totems, introduced with Forgotten Gods, but can still drop randomly from any source. Piece of insight that totally went over my head (after thousands of hours in GD...) until someone pointed it out: Thunderous Strike, the Primal Strike transmuter that makes it spammable, does not require a 2H weapon! It only requires that you can use Primal Strike. ;) - I'm entirely with you on the point of players being CC'd leading to deaths that don't feel satisfying. Particularly in 'endgame' being CC'd is essentially an auto-death sentence, and it necessitates the acquisition of CC resists even though those resists are both rarer in general and can never reach a point at which they make a character truly immune to any CC effect. I would much prefer the game if player CC were removed, as I think it'd make moment-to-moment gameplay smoother. However, I also acknowledge that CC is one way to keep monsters feeling dangerous - counter point to that, though, is that I think monsters are plenty dangerous if other mechanics of theirs are just outright ignored. - I'm reasonably certain powbam's GDSwitcher isn't what separates your saves based on which expansion you launch? I think the game is supposed to do this by default. But I haven't toggled off my expansions in a long while, so my memory on that front may be more suspect. - I also mostly agree with the notion of Act 4 feeling a bit quest-sparse. Even with the Hidden Path interacting with its areas (you did do the Hidden Path, right? :D ) the lack of intermediary quest content along the road to the Necropolis does give it a feeling of emptiness. But it's also where Trip South, one of the game's best pieces of lore, is found. So, there's that. Looking forward to seeing you in Asterkarn!

A fun build is inquistor nightblade with all weapon skills. You get to dual wield pistols and blades and utilize weapon swapping effectively. For the most part you use nightbalde skills but the dual pistols are very effective against aoe bosses and dangerous enemies you want to stay away from. There is also a lot of epic items that play into this build very well
@reallylatereviews
@reallylatereviews Ай бұрын
This does sound like a lot of fun actually, especially having access to dual wielding for both ranged and melee. I found my options to utilise ranged gradually receding as I leveled my Necromancer. Oathkeeper still great and kiting though. @reallylatereviews great thing about this build is that the nightblades blade burst ability can be placed in the default attack slot but works with ranged as well. It also has a short cooldown PLUS the other node makes into a damage boost for all follow up attacks.. and of course you can still proc weapon skill attacks in between blade bursts CD. The classes blend well together but it took me a long time to figure out how keyboard bindings are very fascinating in this game for abilities, attacks and devotions. Fantastic game that is so underrated and so cheap. Glad to talk with you. Can't wait to see what else you post in the future

I've backed quite a few games on kickstarter, and I've enjoyed quite a few of them, but Grim Dawn is still my favorite. They kept adding more, and more content during development because they were in the zone. Some of those long and wide stretches of land are the end result of them forgetting to scale things back a bit; act 1 is massive as an end result. One thing that I don't recall being mentioned, and my apologizes if it was, is that the over world and many of the dungeons aren't procedurally generated. I've put in about 200 hours between GOG and Steam, and I can't wait for the expansion. Outside of a few D&D licensed games, Grim Dawn and Guild Wars 1 are the few exceptions that have a lot of class depth, but also great class synergy when multi-classing. I do wish more games would use the idea more often, even if they're a balancing nightmare.
@reallylatereviews
@reallylatereviews Ай бұрын
Holy smokes that actually makes a lot of sense looking back. Act 4 feels very much like the zones were made to hold more dungeons and quests as they feel complete, just empty. You know you're absolutely right I didn't mention it, I only brought it up for the Shattered Realm that the levels were hand crafted. I should have said something but the truth is at the time I wasn't aware just how much procedural generation was going on in arpgs these days. I dropped the ball there. And nothing against procedural, but I like that Grim Dawn's land is hand crafted. I've always shied away from kickstarter, the first kickstarter project I backed got hit with a copyright infringement notice rofl. Yet I can clearly see this was one of the good ones. I agree, multi classing is just one of those things that extends playtime and adds so much gameplay. (And I mean balancing ya know, pffft sure if there's multiplayer. My perspective is I play Skyrim, the community has been rebalancing that game for 10 years) I will quickly add because I'm going on and on, thank you! On the third tab of the character screen there are things to strive for that reduce certain effects....like trap reduction which was what was getting you stuck, there is also freeze reduction and slow reduction........the rest pretty much go away the second you take damage. Physical resistance is the hardest to get but they lowered it and now armor is more important.. Let me explain physical resistance reduces the amount you take then after that your armor and its absorption reduces what is left....this is the only reason for the armor number as it only protects vs physical damage. Also the spawns are there for some of the tougher enemies for attack converted to health.. the boss has a lot of damage reduction and your not going to get that much health back from them as it is a percentage based on the damage you do.....but the weaker spawned enemies are easier and take more damage, converting more health in return.
@reallylatereviews
@reallylatereviews Ай бұрын
I want to say thank you first of all for the explanation of physical resistance, that actually explains a lot! I did allude to the other tabs, I think I said there are "other secondary stats" or something. But the truth is I'm only now looking at those 132 hours into the game. I write these as my experiences happen so I wasn't ignoring those stats but they also didn't really become important for my first normal/ultimate run. However now I'm slowly pushing the Shattered Realm they are haha, so yeah I'm looking into Freeze Reduction the new bane of my existence :D And the spawned enemies, oh my goodnesss that makes sense actually. That's so clever. I'm annoyed I didn't pick up on that. Lastly I will add thank you for taking the time to explain this to help me and other new players. Also the expansion pack Ragnarok looks good. I think what you said is what helped me in. Pretty much every thing I hear about path of exile in recent years is "just follow a build." But there are times even to me it's acceptable and this is one of them. Clearly they have the support from fans so I'm happy. I think for Grim Dawn 2 I am curious as well but gosh I'm just happy with Grim Dawn 1. I think the new ascendancy difficulty (?or something?) is an answer to what you described. A way to maintain and increase challenge, provide new progression and keep the dual mastery system going as long as possible. Interesting thought though I hadn't considered that! Lastly don't be fooled by my ultimate death montage haha! I found my Death Knight surprisingly strong in ultimate. However, after uploading this I ran my Oathkeeper through some of ultimate and got clapped to a point I could not progress. Ayyy thank you haha. This was a long video even for me, I will do a couple of shorter ones next I think! I think that is a great idea and because it's a top down arpg, Steam's two hour refund period is more than enough time to decide if you enjoy the basic gameplay loop. I say this because top down arpgs are not for everyone, and each one is different. The Diablo 3 demo was enough to know the game just wasn't for me. Grim Dawn 120 hours later ya know what I mean Sorry for long reply just wanted to give my thoughts as you're trusting me to make a purchase. To that I'll add thank you! Ah yes, Grim Dawn. I've played a couple (of thousands) of hours. It's been about 2 years since I last played Grim Dawn, right now I'm waiting for the new expansion's release to see if it has enough in it to bring me back to the game. Anyway, great review. It's nice to see new players enjoying the game this much. About effects like entrapment, being frozen and others, you can raise your resistance to those too, either through equipment, skills, devotions or components. You can't 100% resist them but you can reduce the time you're affected enough to make these effects bearable. But yeah, I'm not a fan of movement restriction either.

im curious to see how crate handle a grim dawn 2,because in this game,wile dual mastery is awsome,it has led to some issues with expansions,if they add just one new mastery,the more they add every expansion,the work they have to put in future expansions grows exponentialy,its the reason why the level cap hasnt been increased in the 2 latest expansions as it leads to insane levels of extra work making more advanced forms of the current sets for the exponentialy growing in number mastery combinations

As someone who just got it a couple of weeks ago and who has been blazing through it, I agree with (almsot) everything said here. Absolutely amazing review. That said, the only thing I disagree with is the VFX. Yes the overall themes are great and mostly function well, but I don't think theyre all (or even mostly) amazing - quite a few of them, especially for the base classes, I would say look quite bad even for 2016 standards. Regardless, even though I dont particularly love the VFX the rest of the visuals and game as a whole are absolutely awesome and I still adore the game. I would say if you're deterred by the vfx JUST TRY IT OUT ANYWAY. PS: Please at least try out the rainbow filters mod, it is an absolte game changer for how items rarities/resistances/damage types are displayed, and its incredibly simple. I think it should just be apart of the base game as it helps make a LOT of the games item complexity feel a lot simpler.
@reallylatereviews
@reallylatereviews Ай бұрын
This is such a good point to raise because no matter what class combo I picked for my actual playthroughs, at least one mastery was an expansion feature. The VFX for Oathkeeper and Necromancer would look better, it's something I didn't even think about. I am a little weak in the knees for 'dated aesthetic visuals' and so I'm biased as well. Yet I can't deny I should have dug deeper into the base classes before blanket commenting on VFX. I will say though, I love the cyan fire so much it carried hard. Thank you for bringing this up! The rainbow filter does look useful. I won't lie I'm let down it doesn't just flash through rainbow colours on tooltips because that's what I hoped it did. But this is far more helpful and I will get around to installing it and messing with the settings. Thank you! Lastly sorry for going on so much, please let me just add thank you! For setting aside time to watch my video and leave kind words. I appreciate it big time, so thank you!

@@reallylatereviews My first couple of classes were non-DLC masteries and it is a lot more painfuly obvious there unfortuantely. But when I got the DLC I've been slamming necro + X classes and its visual effects do definitely look a lot better overall. It's more than fair if you like 'em, was more just a note for people as overall the biggest complaint I/many people have is the the VFX really just aren't up to par for most classes (especially for things you're spamming thousands of times). Yes the name for the mod is a bit disapointing haha, but it is a game changer for being able to quickly see what gear is good/good for your class. The installation is super easy, and it doesnt affect the game at all - you can just play it as normal and that's that. I honestly got it like 10 hours in, as it looks widely accepted to be basically required at this point lol. And no problems, the video was stellar and I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for more of your stuff! uh, a lot of people in crate entertainment where responsible for the develop of titan quest, both games share a lot of similarities including the mastery mechanic...the only downside that I came up recently for grim dawn is the lack of ranged skills...which may or may not be a design choice?

I'm a huge ARPG buff and none have dethroned Grim Dawn for me, especially in its current, evolved state. I've played Last Epoch recently. It's a good game, but it doesn't match the incredible itemization that Grim Dawn has. That's the most important factor to me and no game has come even close yet.
@reallylatereviews
@reallylatereviews Ай бұрын
I've seen bits and pieces of Last Epoch and it looks good visually, and even looks good from a gameplay standpoint but that's just from videos. Yet I agree and I've seen people say the same (I always do a little digging after finishing my review to what other people have said) and that's crazy to me that after nearly a decade, Grim Dawn still has the best itemization. I know in PoE there are items that can change your entire build but it feels like in Grim Dawn you can build an entire build around one item. That's crazy, that's great. Sorry I'm going on and on but I agree! And I want to quickly add thank you, for watching and taking the time to comment! I really do appreciate it, thank you!
@samysnes
@samysnes Ай бұрын
@@reallylatereviews The itemization is very bland and dull in Last Epoch. Sure they have some cool Mythic/Legendaries or whatever they call them, but below that tier of item, it's all just SUPER generic stuff with all the same uninspired couple of stat lines. In Grim Dawn, you can straight up get a named green item with some cool lore that gives you a skill or proc while you wear it. You can also put components into it that will give you ANOTHER skill or proc and all of that in the early levels of the game. It's incredible to me that none of the modern ARPG have caught on that itemization is the most important aspect. We play these games for THE LOOT! If 99% of your loot is boring repetitive garbage, we will get bored with your game. With Monster Infrequents and DoubleRares, I'm constantly looking at what I'm looting because some of them are often times better than legendary gear or offer unique abilities found nowhere else in the game. It's such a simple but effective game design choice. As you can see, I can also ramble on like crazy haha What can I say, I'm passionate about this genre of game!
@reallylatereviews
@reallylatereviews Ай бұрын
Yeah you're absolutely right, this is such a strength for GD and it feels like a no brain to want to make systems like this, and not like they used to be. I think I saw in Last Epoch you can customise your equipment (I may be completely wrong here) with affix smithing and stuff. But if all you're really doing is changing those stat lines that's basically a side note in build optimisation. And that sidesteps the loop of getting a cool item with random affixes drop when you least expect it. That's such a shame. GD's system is near perfect, it's difficult to get fed up with a playstyle when something can drop that just changes your ability lineup when you wear it, or at the very least grants a powerful buff I can see working beyond +2damage. All that being said I am an unapologetic purple farmer, I like that colour rofl And don't even worry about, this is such a joy to read and I'm so lucky to be able to do so. I love reading stories and opinions, it's part of why I make these videos! I think that Grim Dawn is a really good game to be passionate about, it's lovely.
@samysnes
@samysnes Ай бұрын
@@reallylatereviews Yes, Last Epoch's way of dealing with items is mostly through crafting AKA playing with the UI... which is very boring. And yes, it makes looting stuff very trivial and pointless. I get the intent, they wanted to move away from randomness to reduce grinding and farming, but let's be honest, the most die hard fans of this genre actually LIKE grinding to some extent (as long as the gameplay loop is rewarding and fun). I want to use my build to get my upgrades, not just click on some materials on a UI.

@@samysnes Oh gosh. I know this is a weird thing to bring up but I am a person who loves to create and build things in games. So I actually enjoy modded Minecraft from time to time, not vanilla though. And for the longest time all of this crafting and creation was just done in UIs, until mods like Immersive Engineering and Create made it all happen in the world. It's so much more fun and you feel like something is happening almost like it's a real game. It pains me when I see more stuff shifted into the UI because it is more efficient, but much less fun. Such a shame. Why not make a variant of items that drop with incomplete modifiers, in addition to regular random items. And to complete the item you have to siphon stats into them from the bosses you defeat. It's the same system, it just happens as you play the game. Items would still have a component of randomness, but you can tailor the empty modifier slots based on which bosses you kill until they're 'fixed'. I'm rambling rofl just there has to be a better way than a UI, that does sound boring and contrary to as you said, what most fans of the genre even want

@@reallylatereviews I really mean it. I enjoy your content so much. You are one of very few creators I can listen and watch and my brain isn't going crazy with other stuff. It is so relaxing and enjoyable. You have no clue how rare it is for me to come down and enjoy something without worrying about other things. Your video was from the beginning to the end just the perfect content. Jokes landed. Information was plenty full and very important it let me think this is an honest opinion. So thank you. Thank you so much.

you did struggle a lot mostly because you were playing on ultimate with lvl 70-80,you dont even get acces to endgame gear until you are 94 to equip them,ultimate is an endgame difficulty,ofc you will suffer if you dont have the far better gear that level range offers,ofc some people are masochists and play ultimate from lvl 1 even lol

Been wanting to play this for ages but: 1. epilepsy-inducing combat effects did put me off back when it came out. Who on earth thought that looked good? 2. Not to keen on diablo-like combat 3. Guns vs Greatswords - I am fine with early guns in rpgs, but revolver vs greatsword kinda irks me, Idk why That said, still tempted to give it a go. Can you play as an uber-summoner so that your mooks take care of the enemy mobs and you dont have to click on shit 10 times each second?

So I've only had a little look but this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eX7HZZqVa6-jf7M I've skimmed it and it seems to be an entirely pet focused build. I think he turned on an ability to link himself to the enemy boss at times (my brain wants to say this is marked for death) and then every now and then refreshes damage over times. However this can't possibly be the only build for pets as Oathkeepers have Angel summons. Shamans summon briarthorn monsters. Occultists get both caster and melee pets, etc... I would say with experimenting or finding builds online you can be an uber-summoner I also wasn't aware of the original release having epilepsy triggers holy smokes. I've played Final Fantasy 14 and honestly, the flashbangs and lens flare is often too much for me. But I found Grim Dawn at least in it's present state not too bad, perhaps they toned it down The diablo like combat is gonna be a bar to entry and I'm right there with you. The Diablo 3 demo put me to sleep. I think if Grim Dawn clicks with you it'll click but if it doesn't, it just is the genre ya know? They either work or they don't Sorry for big reply, wanted to give a helpful response! I wanna quickly add thank you so much for watching, subscribing and taking the time to comment. I really do appreciate it, so thank you!

Ayyy no worries, thank you! I just hope you enjoy it. My advice would be if it's on sale the base game is usually extremely cheap on steam, and you can test out the gameplay quickly within 2 hours and refund it if you're not into it. I say this because I really think with these top down arpgs it's either hit or miss for how they feel to play.

The only drawback of the game is that character gender only has 2 choice, I would love to see a Queer option.
@reallylatereviews

I mean I was devastated just for no hair colour option haha! This sounds like a cop-out, but I think it boils down to the year it was made and the lack of any real character customisation at the start of the game. I know that isn't a popular answer but on the flip side I feel choices today are wider in many RPGs. Please let me say thank you! For watching and commenting, I really do appreciate it, so thank you!
