32:08 “You have to take things from your life and put them into your work. Even though they don't really mean anything to anybody else”. - Tim Schafer. When I first heard that during my playthrough of the game with the developers' commentary enabled, I paused everything and deeply reflected on that statement, it really resonated with me, I've followed that piece of advice significantly in every single work-related thing that I do.

38:21 “Good artist borrow, great artists steal”. This was also a great quote, one that I find quite true, and, he didn't mean it in the sense of outright plagiarism but in the sense of taking inspiration from the marvelous work that others before you once did, just see Vergil being inspired by Homer's wandering theme for Odysseus in the Odyssey and the Iliad's warfare themes when the former wrote the Aeneid, look at Shakespeare when Geoffrey Chaucer influenced some of his works and, funnily enough, some of Chaucer's best works were also inspired by older works from other authors (e.g. Troilus and Cressida), etc.

One time I played the game for the third time only to hear these. Thanks for doing these. Now I can hear them anytime!

I searched for this video because I was trying to show a friend Kevin's tidbit on cutting their teeth in Tim's team by adding spotlights to Renderdroid. What I discovered was a wonderful video, put together comprehensively. I can tell this was labor of love from all the effort capturing and editing this wonderful commentary, and including supporting artwork; even showcasing the set pieces and contrasting the remastered graphics. Really great work!

Thank you so much for putting this together - I just finished the game for the first time, and going back and replaying it trying to find all the commentary bits sounded like a chore, so this is really appreciated!

Thanks for sharing. I just had such a nostalgic delight playing this game and hearing the commentary but the final commentary for the credits only appeared for a second or two and then was gone and I hadn't saved the game since the edge of the world so couldn't just reload. I ended up scouring the internet for that commentary and luckily you'd posted it here :)

Tim Shafer is a genius and the team that helped with this game outdid themselves. Absolute masterpiece. Nothing more to it.

Thank you for doing this. I was trying to listen to the commentary in the area where you trade Chepito the hammer for the drill and Chepito's ambient dialogue kept cutting off the commentary tracks and it was driving me up the wall

You all in this discussions are hilarious! And to hear the background of where ideas came from I found very fascinating! I love Film Noirs, but my Eyes never noticed anything like that in this game, because I was so immersed in the story. I played it when it was the original original, and I’d love to play again the remastered. Thanks! My all time ever game! I’ve played the original all those times.

Awesome work. I missed a lot when I was playing the game and there was no way in hell I wanted to go through it again, haha. This must have taken a lot of time to do especially with all the edits. Thank you :) Learnt about so many references I had no idea about thanks to this commentary, it was fun to learn about people like Gustav Klimt and old game engines :D

If I had a nickel for every time I turned a character into a gambling addict in a Tim Schaffer game... Well, I'd only have two nickels, but it's still funny it happened twice! Also, I have never been so horrified to find a field of flowers as I was in this game!

Who are they talking about in the year 4 kitchen dialogue?
@l337crappyjack3 жыл бұрын
This is entirely a hunch, but I do know that Steve Purcell of Sam and Max fame used to work at Lucasarts and left to work at Pixar, but I have no idea if the dates line up or not.
@HUNDOLOS2 жыл бұрын
@@l337crappyjack Doubt they would call him a "potentially amazing animator" at that stage. Could be anyone who is not a big name - LucasArts was not a huge studio, but still plenty of people there at the time.
@BandicootCommando955 ай бұрын
@@l337crappyjack he's the only one who matches the description, but thing is at least at that point, he didn't join Pixar until like 2001-02, after he left LucasArts he had a brief stint both at Nelvana and ILM

In the same commentary track Tim Schafer dismisses communist plots within unions during the Red Scare as nothing to take serious AND references On The Waterfront without a hint of irony.

Schafers probably a smart guy but he doesnt seem too conscious of this kind of thing lol
