If you want to learn more about how to use Streaking Grime, then you should check out this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZrWip2Ja5WGZtE In that video I go over three different ways to use Streaking Grime and what the different effects are that you can create with this enamel paint. Definitely worth a watch if you are just starting out with enamels.

This is incredible. I'd love to see an Ultramarine Intercessor painted up this way to match, too. The format of your video with each timestamped step is so helpful for following along. Your pacing and cadence is equally easy to keep up with. Thank you for documenting your process and sharing it with us. You make the techniques feel approachable and less daunting.

Thank you for all the kind words! I am making a video of an Ultramarines Lieutenant in this paint scheme, that should be done in a week or two. For now I have a squad of Intercessors, Assault Intercessors, Infiltrators, Suppressors, Eradicators and Aggressors with this paint scheme. You can find some pics on my instagram highlights: instagram.com/fogofgore/ and then click the round image that says EscalationLeague under it :) Glad to hear you like the video! I'm trying to make one at least once per week, so there is more coming!

Good call on no rust, as an ex soldier myself if you had any rust on your kit by being a lazy soldier and not maintaining your weapon and kit you were in serious trouble, so I can't see the Emporor's finest getting away with that either.
@FogOfGore
@FogOfGore 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I can imagine getting rust on your marines if they are stuck behind enemy lines for months or if they are fighting Nurgle or xenos with particularly corrosive bodily fluids. On top of that, I don't think most equipment survives long enough to get rust on it! Even space marines and their armour get destroyed.

So you dont wipe of any of the streaking grime on these? Just paint it on and let it dry?
@FogOfGore
@FogOfGore 3 жыл бұрын
I do wipe it off, but just with a brush with white spirits. You have less control than with a qtip, but it's much quicker. Check out my video on Streaking Grime here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZrWip2Ja5WGZtE I use the third method described there.

Did you remove the Streaking Grime afterwards with white spirits? Take a brush and reactivate the Streaking Grime and wash it off a bit so it only settles in the recesses. Check this video if you want to learn more about how to use Streaking Grime: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZrWip2Ja5WGZtE

@FogOfGore
@FogOfGore 2 жыл бұрын
@@tylergower9887 yes. It doesn't matter if the Streaking Grime is wet or dry. If you use white spirits it will become liquid again and you can let it flow into the recesses.

Super noob question: so after priming/undercoating you basically drybrush as your basecoating-method? I love the smoothness of the paint after your first drybrush. How much paint do you put on your brush & and how much of it do you wipe on a paper towel? I need to know this method, it looks so nice! 😁
@FogOfGore
@FogOfGore 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, exactly. I drybrush with quite a bit of paint on the brush for the base coat. I wipe of some paint, but not much. Just make sure you keep brushing until the coat is real smooth. I think it's the best way to get a smooth coat on the large models without using an airbrush.
@Hannah11876
@Hannah11876 3 жыл бұрын
@@FogOfGore Much, much appreciated! Would you say, this method could work on smaller miniatures, too? I have never seen basecoats with a brush looking so...smooth.
@FogOfGore
@FogOfGore 3 жыл бұрын
@@Hannah11876 yeah, absolutely, if you can get into all corners and actually brush the model. The large vehicles have great flat surfaces that you can easily get to and drybrush quickly. If you have a rougher model the base coat won't be this smooth and if you can't get your brush in all the nooks and crannies of a smaller model, then you can't brush and spread out the base coat. I personally don't care about getting smooth layers on my minis. My style is more slapdash, rough and quick and then I'll smooth it out with a wash and some highlighting. I rarely apply two thin coats and almost always just drybrush one layer over another. 😃
@Hannah11876
@Hannah11876 3 жыл бұрын
@@FogOfGore This is so fascinating because it is so unique and the results speak for themselves. I can't speak for others, but I would adore a video of yours in which you go in depth about your painting technique especially this one. The miniature painting hobby and the application of two thin coats, especially for me who lives in a place with (partially) extreme weather in which even a wet palette will dry out quickly, is simply not fun.

Ages i dont paint and i really love see your videos grats they are awsome and wt i aws looking 4 got someideas , if you let me , to enhance yr model Mix grinded chacoal or similar to black piant making it "dirtier" good for inside of the flamethrower and exaustion pipes who accumulate combustion residue In the heat damage u could add some light blu shades givin a temprate feeling In the top of missiles a point of fluorescent green and on top of it glue mix with black oil , sand it to give a cone shape to simulate the targeting system of an heat seeking missile (the green spot in trasparency should not stand out) The soldier blood mixed with the sand should be darker, the flowin 1 a bit more intense for ossigenated blood Vulcan gun barrels are elctronic driven to rotate , an electric panel with exposed wires not damaged will be cool.Single filament of opened brass wire dipped in rubber paint should do the work pretty fine Also some light traslucent to make let the inner part of the barrel look greasy and well oliated Something like the wavy part of a litte straw to make corrugated tubes for pneumatic systems behind legs and junctions anyway just some ideas jumped on mind looking you working hope to not be annoying with ma long post also forgive ma poor english im doin ma best ^^ ps nice chippin =D

Yeah people always go WAY to crazy with battle damage, grime, rust and gore on their Space Marines. Almost every piece of equipment (especially the old shit before we had the Primarchs), was extremely valuable in resources and history, so you can be 100% sure that they had plenty of servitors, scribes and tech priests taking VERY good care of their gear and vehilces,. Except for a few of the bolter porn bullshit stories GW has been releasing in the last few years, it is quite uncommon for Space Marines to be engaged in prolonged conflict, especially after the Horus Heresy and the Codex Astartes. So usually Space Marines enter a system fuck shit up HARD and leave at 4pm in time for tea, so there is simply no time for their gear to get THAT damaged and dirty. I mean their bolters hold maybe 15-20 Bullets, hardly any model carries visible extra ammo, they usually have no proper infrastructure or supply line in place, since they litereally drop from the sky where they are needed the most, and their gear is so specialised, hardly any planet they fight on can provide them with spare parts or ammunition. So how are they supposed to fight in a week or month long campaign without any ammunition and supplies? Sure they can get supply drops from the sky, but if they have acces to that, then they arent in a situation that warrants prolonged engagement, and it makes no sense for them to be, thats what the Imperial guard is there for They hold the line, they do the dying, the Space Marines are just there to turn the tide, not to fight in a grinding war of attrition. You can easily replace a 1000 dead guardsmen, but losing just 10 Space Marines is a disaster! So yeah, despite the hErOiC tAlEs from the shit the Black Library releases these days there really is no reason for Space Marines to fight longer than a few hours or maybe a few days max. It really has to be about the survival of their chapter or an entire sector if they would risk the lifes of so many of their brothers.
Do I NEED to varnish before using Streaking Grime?
