Another great Conan lore video. Well done! As a longtime Lovecraft fan I really appreciate that you are in the know with the the Lovecraftian elements. Did you know that Yog Sothoth is actually in Age of Conan? It's avatar can be summoned in House of Crom by a 24 man raid. And you actually have to do a ritual in several stages to open the portal. Also Nyarlathotep is behind a lot of crazy stuff in AOC you can actually meet him in the Dragon's spine zone in this elaborate solo quest line and there are plenty of writings on the walls of House of Crom about the Crawling Chaos, and the Shining Trapezohedron, the serpent people and Kull oh and in Dragon's spine you encounter the Trapezohedron (a stygian archeologist goes completely nuts when you bring him a fragment). There are many more Lovecraft lore pieces in AOC. though several of them are in group content. ps. In house of Crom, you can listen to some atlantean ghosts talking about Cthulhu dreaming in his house in R'yeh :D Edit: Oh and the Entity in the Jade Citadel has a special message for Herald Of Xotli players about Hastur and Nyarlathotep. Ok I will shut up now :D

And what I mean by Island theory is how if you take a group of people stick them on an island with very little in the way of predation and no real way for their enemies to get at them then they start forgetting their technology and just effectively turn back the clock on what they are able to maintain and produce

The reason the player can understand all lorestones in the exiled lands, is part of their original design. The bracelets were originally designed to ease the communication between lemurian settlers and the original Giant-King inhabitants. Basically, it auto-translates - this feature only being disabled in the gallery of the priest king, above the undead dragon arena as referrenced in one of the lore-stones where the archivist explains to the slaves serving there that it is for the privacy of the high ranking giant kings there. The bracelet was a result of the combined magic of the witch-queen and the priest-king, in their efforts to co-exist while the two civilizations were still at peace. When the lemurians declared war on the serpent-men in the volcano, the giant-kings turned the bracelet against them, activating a dormant "safety" in the bracelet that would trap the lemurian slaves inside the wall, while the lemurian free city of Xel-Ha would be sealed outside the first wall (the broken ghostwall totems that borders the jungle/swamp biome). In turn, the witch queen was able to undermine the bracelet to leave lorestones across the exiled lands that only her enslaved kin could understand, the only other referance to the bracelets not translating universally. On a sidenote just because i love this lore, listening to all the lemurian lorestones in order take on a whole new heartbreaking meaning once you realise that she is not pleading to her enslaved lemurian kin, but primarily to her son (in-law, ty Joel), Tyros, the half giant-king slave champion who was concieved with the help of magic by the witch-queen and the priest-king. Indeed, Tyros did rebel, and as punishment the Giant-Kings killed (?) his children and his wife Telith, who's grave you'll find on Telith's island in the exiled lands. In addition,the priest-king cursed Tyros and his legion of slave-warriors to never grant the rest of death,trapping them to guard Xullan (the black keep) as undead for eternity.
@zarahandrahilde95542 жыл бұрын
Oh this reminded me, it might be wrong that Tyros has no demon blood, i guess it depends on definition. He is supposed to be the mix of the priestking of the giant-kings and the witch-queen of lemuria, who combined their sorceries to bring Tyros safely through to birth after their "union", in their efforts for their peoples to coexist peacefully. Would be interesting to hear your take. My assumption at least would be that he'd count as demonblooded, as the Archivist's lorestones references the Giant-king race to have originated in the outer dark between the stars, and their magic is also drawn from there - plenty of demonic influence to Tyros' blood, would be my thought.
@GrimDarkHalfOff2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the lore info! We reward this behavior here! If we didn’t already have a pinned comment I’d pin this one instantly! As far as the priest king goes that explains a lot, but still fits with in my understanding of more technology focused giant kings civilization. Especially if the magic we would actually consider magic is concentrated in one figure.
@zarahandrahilde95542 жыл бұрын
@@GrimDarkHalfOff No need for a pin and happy to share ^^ I've been unhealthily obsessed with the lore of the exiled lands for years - Joel from funcom made it an amazing story of lore to be pieced together, as nothing is written in one place or explained outright. It's an amazing piece of work.
@joelkp1185 Жыл бұрын
Hate to correct you, but remember, Tyros was not the son of the witch queen (well, unless you say son-in-law, but for me, he’s not a proper son of the witch queen). He was born from a relationship between the priest king and an unknown Lemurian woman, as we can read in the tear of two races’ item description in Conan exiles. Tyros fell in love with Telith, the witch queen’s daughter, making tyros effectively the witch queen’s son in law, which is what you say. Also, the giant kings didn’t kill Tyros’ wife, Telith, and his children, Xaalthar and Xaltana. If this was the case, we wouldn’t see Xaalthar become Xaltotun, high priest of set in Acheron, and we also wouldn’t see Xaltana become witch queen of Acheron. Tyros was cursed with eternal life by the priest king in their duel, which Tyros won by defeating his father. Because he had eternal life, he witnessed his loved ones fall around him and how he had to seclude himself in the black keep with his undead silent legion. His wife Telith died and was buried in Imi’s cradle on telith’s island by Xaalthar and Xaltana, and of course, Xaltana and Xaltotun would, presumably, die of things like old age or death in battle, all while Tyros remained in the black keep under his curse of eternal life. I think this makes Tyros’ story far more depressing, as watching your loved ones die around you while you still live is, in my opinion, far worse than them being downright killed.
@zarahandrahilde9554 Жыл бұрын
@@joelkp1185 happy to be corrected, You're right - i was writing this off memory and some wires got crossed - Tyros' relation to the witch-queen is by marriage. I think what imprinted it wrongly in my mind after so long is the lorestones left by the witch queen, because they felt so much more impactful realising that she had a daughter and grandchildren at stake - also that the witch queen's magic were part of the birth of Tyros, since the priestking on his own failed without her help. Or "failed" - if i remember right, i think the abysmal remnant was the result of his first attempt but i'm not sure anymore ^^ Love these stories, joel bylos crafted us a masterpiece.

Im going to be honest, Acheron sounds wierdly comfortable... at least for the Giant Kings and Elder Men, a comfortable life with all the technomagical comforts one could dream of from easy access to learning and literature to convinient transport, though of course extremely decadent and filled with intrigue and conspiracy. While my knowlage of Conan is very shallow im going to guess that a life of say "waking up in a silken poster bed aided by imp servants, going out on the Tavern/Café for a Devil Flower Infused Qawha (Qawha is english pronunciation of the arabic of coffee so imagine dark fantasy starbucks with slaves and extra hedonism), then heading for dark magic tuitions by serpentmen (mostly boring save for the blood magic) then going to watch gladiatorial matches (of which there are 1001 varieties) in the afternoon, followed by heading back home for some more studying and then going back to bed, again aided by imps" is not exactly... the idealized view of how someone should live their lives in Conan, almost all of these steps i said were made on the cost of the suffering of others and so on... let me know if you like my little interpretation of a day of an acheronian.

In Greek myth, Tartarus is, unless I’m mistaken, basically the bottom most, most dangerous and inhospitable level of the underworld. The Acheronian city of Tartarus is located in Argos, which would later go on to become the civilisation of Greece. As such, my theory is that the Argosseans, later, the Greeks, saw the Acheronian empire as literal hell, with its most impregnable military capital as the worst part of the whole empire, which they’d later go on to immortalise in their mythology.

Always a fan of "Dark" Empire/Kingdoms/Civilizations. An entire empire based off of demon worship and human sacrifice and dark magics. Is pretty epic! Stared playing Conan Exiles a year ago and absolutely love the giant king's culture and architecture.

Good we have a video on that too!

You know I really do have to wonder, how exactly do you fit the Khari, described in Conan Exiles as essentially the precursors and former inhabitants of Stygia, into this whole narrative? From what I understood, the Giant kings were the original inhabitants of Stygia, and the sailing of Lemurians from their sinking islands in the east of the continentto Stygia in its center and then back to the Exiled lands which should be in Hyperboria/Turan is a geographic nightmare.

I don't see REH's novel the Hour of the Dragon in the source list. It is the most complete source of lore on Xaltotun and the priest kings of Acheron in the Hyborian Age. It's also a great adventure story demonstrating the heroism and sorcery in Robert Ervin Howard's literary world.

Great book, Xaltotun was Conan's most formidable opponent.

Is the background ground music around the end like in 40:00 from the video game Journey? Cool.

It was the exact opposite for me,I would enjoy Acheron. Xaltoltun sent me.

I once read a theory that proposed something on the lines of Xalthar, son of Tyros and Telith from Conan Exiles, having something to do with either the founding of Acheron or the Acheronian royal line. Have you heard of this theory, and what is your opinion on it?

I been waiting to play a "English longbowman/Robbin wood" kind character on gurps Conan. What would be the best choice of Nation for my character?

Where should a newcomer to Conan start with learning the lore? I'm assuming the 3 omnibus series they did for the novels?
