I absolutely love that GW took the time to do this, I cant stand gold universal standard coinage in my RP's. One of the best ways to introduce a new nation and get across that the players aint in kansas anymore is to have merchants get upset with them for trying to use foreign money. Obviously gold is gold, so some merchants will take it, but make then jump through a few hoops to get the point across. I just wish they would go all the way and make Silver the bulk standard coinage, and then have gold the super special "only for super high cost transactions" coin. A gold piece should be like waving a 100 dollar bill around.

A very interesting video. Lore like this - going beyond merely the units in the game itself - really helps to make the world feel "lived in": Irrelevant to the game but part of the world-building.

Since i know someone is curious about it, here is some more i was able to dig up. Cathay: They do In fact use Coins like the empire. The only lore about them is that they are apparently made out of the purest gold one could possibly find. I would imagine they have the picture of the emperor or empress in them. Ind: Apparently are called Surwans, and are made out ivory and gemstones. Undead: Gold is of no use to the dead. Except Luthor Harkon, but he is nuts. Tomb Kings: Actually a good question. While i really dont think Tomb Kings, despite not being evil, really trade with the living, They definetly have lots of gold and silver. But they are also, very unwilling to part with it and some have gone to great lengths if so much as ONE coin from their tomb is stolen. Ogres: Obviously don't mint coins, but do actually use them. Money is no good for eating, but ogres have found it is good for trading. Greasus being the poster child, and i assume they just get all their gold from others. Orcs: Like their 40k counterparts, use teef as currency. Chorfs, Hoblins: No idea. Delfs and Welfs: Also no idea, though i also imagine they dont have much use for gold. But i do recall that Druchi trade with slaves when dealing with each other. And finally, Skaven: Deal in Warpstone. However, in a very hilarious Piece of lore, they do mine Gold and silver despite having no use for it...just cuz its inconvenient for everybody else.

I had no idea "ounce" comes from Warhammer fantasy , does it have a equivalent in real world measurement units ?
@doomguy90495 жыл бұрын
It’s 1/16th of a Pound
@Grungir25 жыл бұрын
@@doomguy9049 Pound? is that another fantasy unit of measurement ? Probably the dwarfs use it .
@doomguy90495 жыл бұрын
@@Grungir2 a pound is 1/14th of the weight of a stone that dwarfs launch from their catapults

Ogre pennies , one of the best joke I ever heard in Warhammer. I just can't find the source material anymore ... it was somewhere in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, i think. Huh, not sure, guess thats why I can't find it. Thanks for all your lore vids.

Another reason why the Old World was ‘richer’. Take away civilization as we knew it, and what use is money in elemental realms populated by demigod-like beings?
@GrimDarkNarrator5 жыл бұрын
Well, it was richer because it had actual regular people in it, not just supernatural forces and armies fighting all the time. It made it feel more grounded.
