Grimmspeed Turbo Studs Install *Broke 2 Studs* (2018 WRX)

This has probably been the worst install I have ever done. Not only did it take 5 days to finally fix but I broke 2 studs and took forever to drill them out. Some advice would probably be to leave the studs soaking in PB blaster or wd40 overnight to make it easier. Glad I was able to get it done at least lol

AMTR Racing it's been about two years since I put on my J-pipe according to my IG. But the gasket I used is wearing out causing a leak. Might as well try to remove my broken stud while putting on the Grimmspeed 7 layer gasket. I'm glad you persistence paid off.

Just weld it then take it out

To avoid this issue, get a hot torch, MAPP gas or acetylene, heat the nut/stud and douse with cold water ~4 times. Then heat it and it will come out every single time. So much more worth it than removing broken studs, but a $200 mig welder will take care of that for you because you can just weld a nut onto the remainder of the broken stud.

Sucks but if you heat them up they come out way easy..! Learned this taking out of shock bolts on the bottom of a 1995 chevy pickup!! Broke one and after that then I heated the rest and it came right out...🙌🌞

Can you explain how you got the studs out in detail. You kinda skipped through it and said drill and tap but it be really helpful to me if you said what tools you used and how because one of my studs just broke off the same way.

Yep! Had to remove headers & turbo on my setup... Then carefully drilled out the broken stock stud...

I'm going through this right now... it's been almost a week. Got a nut I jacked up badly doing everything I can to get it off, and now I'm wondering if I need to get the stud out at this point, but I'm afraid it is going to snap... I'm literally going to be a full-fledged mechanic and garage because I'm just in it too deep to back out now.

Same exact thing happened to me with my audi. One stud was stripped and the other snapped. Same extractor tool ripped the stud off and left the end in the turbo.

Question... this seems to happen often to people's downpipe studs... Is it because of the super high temperatures that these things go through that just seizes them? I bought 2000 degree marine anti seize but I haven't confirmed if it is a fail safe for this.

How deep did you go when you drilled into the studs cause I’m also struggling with 3 that broke off

I just drilled all the way through then re threaded the holes. Wish you luck they are definatly a PITA 😭😅
