There is actually more to the heading vs. bearing distinction. A BEARING as you said, is a line in a given direction from one point to another. The HEADING is the direction an aircraft must be pointed to fly that bearing. This is greatly affected by wind (especially in the real world). So if you are given a bearing of due north (360) but the wind is 70 knots out of the west (as it frequently is at altitude in the real world), you would have to fly a heading to the left of the bearing. How far left depends upon your airspeed--the slower your speed, the greater the correction. Since everyone's speed is different, as is the wind at their location, AWACS gives you a bearing and leaves it to you to make the correction.

Heading is the direction an aircraft is pointing. Track is the direction the aircraft is travelling across the ground. The difference between the two is your drift angle as a result of thee effect of the wind.

“In the scope of DCS” You must have missed that part. More than likely you came with the intent to spread your “knowledge”, but failed to pay attention.

In my understanding, although DCS' AI AWACS writes it out "BRA", it is actually BRAA -- Bearing, Range, Altitude, Aspect. Aspect is typically only used when the subject target is not hot on you.

Flying Basics: Communicating With & Understanding AWACS Calls all over the BRA information, like we dont know what we are watching. When you are trying to learn it's a little frustrating because it makes it harder to follow along. And on another note you generally make awesome content and I appreciate all the work you put into tutorial video's! So so sorry about my whinge because your tutorials like I said are very much appreciated.

It's just in full screen that the title covers the BRA info, full screen however is best to use as you can follow through with comm's etc easier.

Hello, recently flying with f / a18 and I would like to know why an awacs with settings via Mission Editor (Radio Usage when contact) does not detect and transmit the position and distance of enemy ships. Thanks for your answer

The Ka-50 manual points out that the helicopter's magnetic compass is affected both by magnetic variation of the region and deviation caused by the helicopter's own magnetic field. There's an accompanying graph which indicates that the total degrees of deviation are a product of region AND heading with the greatest deviation at 180 degrees and minimums at: 30, 60, 100, ~140, 245, 275, 315, and ~355 degrees.

Awesome video Cap! the Mag Dec solves my issue with why the Su-25 finds bandits easier then the Viggen.... you learn something new every day oh and unless DCS has done an update which i'm not aware of..... AWACS calls are always Imperial which is a bugger as one has to do a simple but annoying calculation when in a Metric plane

You should give the magnetic declination (variation) with a West or East or plus or minus. 6 degrees doesn’t tell me anything because I don’t know whether to add or subtract 6 degrees from the true bearing giving to me by AWACS.

Billy Nicely Bullseye is an arbitrary point in space decided by commanders that all friendly forces will know, all friendly players can then reference the bra from the bullseye in a semi covert format, so that if any enemy forces are listening, they cannot quickly identify any position that friendly forces are talking about

In F4.0, a bugged bandit had the altitude and range from bullseye shown on the HSD (along with one’s own plane’s location compared to bullseye shown.) Does this not work in DCS?

How does one know whether its feet or meters in DCS? In some places it tells you feet but others like the signal flares for example they give no indication whether its in feet or meters.

Only gripes I have with it are the disgusting lock on sounds :'D
