Amazing display especially love the part where you name every building!

Thank you. I did that so if you saw something you liked but didn't know what it was, it was labelled. I didn't name everything, just the bigger items. I admit my video is kinda long, but I wanted to take my time and show the detail. This is my first village, thus my first village video. I learned a lot but still a long way to go. Glad you liked it.

Thanks. I can't tell you how many times I've watched someone else's village video and saw something I liked but didn't know what it was. That's why I did that. Apparently, not everyone likes that I did. I can't please everyone, nor am I trying to. Glad you liked my display. It's been set up for the past year. Never took it down.

What an amazing display! I can clearly see that you’ve put in a lot of time and effort into making this! The use of the ambient noises in the background definitely makes it feel like you’re walking through your display. Great job once again!

Thanks. This is the first time I made a display like this. I practiced on some small stuff then just went for it. It was supposed to be more mountainous but I could only work on (1) 2'x2' panel at a time so it was hard to tell just how flat it was going to turn out. I'll exaggerate the mountains next time. I do have some photos taken while making this. Maybe I'll make a video with them and post it. Thanks again, I appreciate your support.

This is absolutely amazing! It's so fun to look at! I love how you've done the sound, too.
@kevoworx2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I wanted to do something different with the sound. Most village videos have some Halloween music playing. I opted for a more creepy ambience. I can't take all the credit. The base of the soundtrack is from Michael Ghelfi @ RGP Audio. That includes the wind, and some other creepy animal sounds. I added the river, crickets, campfire crackling, owls, coyotes/wolves etc. The jazz bar is playing 2 songs from the movie "Corpse Bride". All the credits are listed. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback and I truly do appreciate them. I'm glad you like it. Thanks again.

Very well done. The way you mixed the audio with each piece really made them come to life. And the details in your platform are top notch. Very spooky. I hope you post another video for Halloween 2022! 🎃

Thank you. I have some ideas for my next village but I have not started making anything yet. I want to incorporate some visual effects I have never seen anyone do before. Still trying to work out how. I have a 3D printer and want to try printing some stuff. If you watch the video again, the fencing and stone posts around the cemetery are 3D printed. I may not be able to finish anything in time for this year, but I will try. Thanks again for your support.

Thank you. I set this up in June of 2021 and it is still set up. Surprising how much dust collects on it. It makes a great ambient light and mood when on. The sounds in the video are the sounds that play when on. There is an mp3 players with (5) 1-hour long soundtracks. I have a church bell that tolls each hour, but because there are different files, I can actually have the bell ring a different count each hour. If I turn it on at the right time of day, the bell chimes match the time of day. Also, there are different songs played in the jazz bar each file, so I don't get sick of the songs. There are other sounds like coyotes, witch cackles, thunder rumbles, and so on. It takes 5 hours before it repeats so the sound is really dynamic. I am glad you like the video and my setup. It's the first real village I ever made.

@@katjasmulders3115 Thank you so much. I am planning a new village but I can't seem to get everything just right. Space is limited and what I want to do is much bigger, with some very interesting visual effects that I have never seen anyone do before. I know the video doesn't really show it, but I feel as though this village is somewhat flatter than I wanted it do be. I will exaggerate the terrain much more in the next one with higher mountains and deeper valleys. I also want it to look creepier. It is Halloween so it should really reflect that.

Thank you so much. I spent a lot of time moving the stuff around until I found what works best. I tried to keep a theme (if you will), meaning stores and public buildings in 1 section, farm stuff in another section, wilderness in its section, and so on. I have a bunch of ideas for my next one but I don't believe it will be this year. Sorry for the delay in replying, This is the first time I saw your post. Thanks again.

Really like your extra sound effects and lighting. I appreciated that you labeled all of your major pieces in the video. I was a bit surprised after watching that you didn’t have any of the Dept 56 Grimsly pieces because of the name of your hollow. Great display though.
@kevoworx Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don't have many Department 56 items due to their cost, (as compared to Lemax). I spent quite a bit of time trying to find the perfect name and ultimately settled with Grimsly Hollow. At first it was Creepy Hollow but that was too generic and over used. Then Slaughter Hollow came to mind but that seems a bit too violent and suggestive. I couldn't find much of anyone using Grimsly Hollow so I went with that. I put the titles in because I have seen so many other videos with pieces I didn't recognize and I wanted to make sure no one had the same issue watching my video. By the way, (to everyone reading this), I noticed recently there are advertisement breaks in my video. I did NOT put them there, KZbin did! My apologies.

Thanks so much. Glad you like it. I'm starting to think about what's next. As far as the sounds, seems like everyone uses "This is Halloween" or some other popular Halloween song. I wanted to put the viewers in the model so I used ambient sounds. If you didn't notice, listen each time the skeleton is playing his guitar in front of the campfire. He's playing "The Munsters", and "The Addams Family" theme songs. There is also jazz music coming from inside the jazz cafe. The reason I focused on each section is so the viewer doesn't become confused about what they are seeing. So many videos show a "feature", then at some point come back to it and it's hard to tell if it's a different "feature" or if I've seen it already. I will admit my video is long for what it is. Thanks again!

Thank you so much. That was my first time village. Next one (whenever that will be) will be much better. Higher mountains, deeper canyons, more lights and some creative visual effects that I can't disclose just yet. I do want to incorporate a train but I don't have one just yet as they are pricey.
@krystalann993 жыл бұрын
Awesome village can you talk more about how you layered and placed the village buildings. I have a lot of pieces but not a lot of room and I’m trying to make it look realistic so adding hills and mountains seems like a good way to fit more in. Any advice is much appreciated
@kevoworx3 жыл бұрын
My initial idea for the mountains was to provide elevation for buildings in the back so buildings in the front didn't hide them. I spent a great deal of time figuring out a layout that worked. I photocopied the base of each building then cutout the shape so I had a scale representation of each piece. I then used the prints to determine my layout. Moving the paper buildings around was easier than the actual pieces. It also helped prevent damage to the real pieces. I also tried to include roads, sidewalks and paths to connect everything. Focus on the bigger pieces first. The smaller stuff can always be placed in somewhere. Don't settle on the first layout you make. When you have a layout you like, take a picture of it. Then try other layouts. Stare at it for a bit and try to see what's missing, or problematic. If a building in the front looks like it's hiding a building in the back, raise the back building. Watch my video again. You will see the Crow Creek bridge would have blocked the view of the Dead Creek Mill. Because of this, I raised the Mill up (though not enough) so it could be better seen. This allowed me to create the creek in front of the Mill, and the waterfall that flows under the bridge. I didn't want to make the typical "Step" platform as so many others do. Exaggerate the mountains if you can. Mine are not as high as I thought they were going to be. Something else to consider, electrical! There is a hole under each building through the landscape to allow the buildings electrical to pass. The placement of each building hides the hole. I made a special table stand which allows the wires to pass down. Take notice that I also added exterior lighting. Simple LED's that shine onto a building or feature. The "Rail Elevator" has a blue LED. Sometimes, if the room itself is dark, the buildings are hard to see. Exterior lighting helps a lot. If you have any other question, please feel free to ask. I'm not a seasoned pro, but I can pass on what I've learned. Thanks for your support.

Amazing display!!, have you ever thought of a train set connecting or bridge between Christmas village with Spooky Town? I bet it would be epic, the 2 most iconic holidays with their respective designs. Like a vs type display or worlds collide.
@kevoworx2 жыл бұрын
I have considered a Halloween train but I don't want the typical sets currently available. I'm pretty sure I'll need to buy each unique piece separately which costs considerably more. I'm also struggling with the proper train scale. There was a point in which I considered connecting a Halloween village with a Christmas village but 1) I don't have the Christmas village stuff and 2) I don't really have the room. Halloween is my "thing" so I'll just stick to that. I'm glad you liked my village. Thanks!

What pieces is the: red dress skeleton in front of black & gray trim house w/ RIP stone, the magic poison shack, and also the campfire by sitting skeleton? great layout! cheers
@kevoworx2 жыл бұрын
The red dress skeleton is part of a zombie set. www.ehobbytools.com/Lemax-Spooky-Town-Walking-Zombies-Set-of-3-42219_p_136.html The magic poison shack came from Michaels and is part of the Ashland Halloween tiny treasures series. Both campfires were something I made. The stones are sculpted stryofoam with real sticks as firewood. The flames were made with a hot glue gun. The trick is to apply a small amount of glue, then flip the piece upside down and use a toothpick to stretch the molten glue into points by dabbing the glue and pulling down. Keep it upside down until the glue hardens. When it is flipped back upright, the points stand up. Then I added a "candle LED" that is orange and flickers under it to light up the glue. Now that you know the trick, you should be able to see it in the video. Glad you enjoyed my setup. Thanks!

I would like this soo much more without displaying the titles of the pieces. Most collectors already know the names and non collectors do not care as they just want to see it all lit up.
@kevoworx2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the input, however I disagree. There are a lot of people starting out in making their own villages and often view such videos for inspiration. Perhaps they see something, like my campfires, and ask how it was made. That's what I did when I got started. Often times I watch other village videos to see the buildings they have. I can't tell you how many pieces I've seen and could not locate the item online to purchase because I didn't know the name of it, or who made it. Heidi M liked that I posted what they were and magym asked me what some of the pieces were that I didn't label. I suppose I can't please everyone. Maybe in a future video I can hold off on labeling what they are to the end of the video, much like movie credits, but most people don't always watch videos to the end so such credits would not be seen. I do appreciate the time you've taken to comment on my video and will keep it under consideration for future posts. Others are welcomed to chime in on this topic. Maybe I'm wrong.
