Ice covered the gravel driveway. Instead of Salt-we try to grind it with the Hydra bucket, power broom it, then use the gravely to plow while the Cat skid loader grinds through more ice.

Retired 3 years now after 32 years in the Fire and EMS service, I want to thank you personally for taking the time to clear around the hydrants when you see it’s needed, and it took less than a minute or two to do it, we would have struggled up and over that snow/ice build up not only to hook up the 5-6” supply line or a couple of 3” lines but also to disconnect them after being whooped by fighting the fire itself...you are also helping your neighbors or businesses it there is ever a need to use them. I don’t know how many times we have had to dig out just to get the hose close to the hydrant let alone flush it and then connect it. And usually it’s just one person doing the mad scramble to get it done, and again then they are going to go fight fire already slightly tired, it’s just our nature.... THANK YOU!!

Stanley, you are the man. I want to thank you for cleaning up around those fire hydrants, being that I work for the water company when we get a lot of snow I have to go out and clean them up and on an average day I clean up to 100-150+ hydrants a day and when your rushing from one to the next and I come up on one that's done, it's one of the best feelings. Stan The bucket worked pretty good for not being designed for that. If a fellow watched and used it on some of the warmer days I bet that it would cut the ice faster. On my gravel drive it gets icy at times. Real problem as it has a 5% slope in it. My brother has a JD 772 grader and he has a carbide tooth bar that goes on the scaifier mount He usually can rip/grind the ise down to the gravel in a pass or two. I will commend you as well, for clearing the fire hydrant. I did have a funny thought. I live in a 150 year old farm house. It seems we are remodeling contentiously on it. It seems as soon as one thing is updated something else goes bad/wrong. I have joked with the local fire chief that I am going to cover up all of the fire hydrants within reach of my house. Might be time to invest in some tracking equipment. That or creative ways to block and lock stuff together so if you wanna get one thing you gotta move them all.

Tracking equipment sounds perfect.

I suggest moving all ur equipment to the yard. Where you keep everything. So if you go out plowing. Just take 2-3 trucks hook up a trailer and grab ur skid loaders or. Just drive ur skid loader to ur snow plow site. Etc. that’s what we do
@Dirtmonkey3 жыл бұрын
Good idea but it takes about 5 hours to mobilize out the equipment that way.

@@Dirtmonkey yeah. It would take longer. But luckily are shop is like 10 min away from where we plow. But we plow only around downtown. So are shop is like 10 min away with a skid loader but with a truck it’s like 5

I don't really understand why people are like that. It's really sad that you have to spend you hard earn money to repair your equipment because someone is lazy and don't want to get a JOB. Love the content

Glad you enjoyed the video! Im not really sure what motivates some peoples actions.

Few weeks ago had the same ice problem on a gravel drive, however I didn't have the equipment. And unfortunately I'm on the north side of a river Bluff with a 40% grade shaded. I got a wild hair and used a tiller, tines worked great chiseling out chunks fast. BTW, do you happen to have any videos on brine, salt, boosters and suggested equipment? Here in west tennessee we have bad issues with ice and it binding to the surfaces more than snow. I remember in 94 we had 4"+ of ice coated on my front yard and it's steeper than the driveway. Wild hair thought, wonder how Matt Traxx would perform on one of your plow trucks 🤔
