In addition to the book, which I agree is very useful, Harold's website is still up - that is where you will find the drawings shown in the video (the tool sharpening book and the milling book don't have the style of rest that is shown in this video series). A Google of "harold hall metalworking index" should find the site OK, I don't know for how much longer because he is getting on in years. His YT channel also still appears to be available if you want some extra demonstrations of the rests in action.

Hi OM Thanks for the info, when i got the book secondhand the drawings were already loose in the book, i've since learned as you say they are available on the website, so thats great for anyone wanting to have a go, or if anyone wants to email me i will pass them on. I only wanted to be able to sharpen end mills and slot mills , that's why i opted for the incredibly simple version. It's served me well for 10 years so far, just those niggling mod's i needed to do to make it even easier to use. Thanks for watching and observations and feedback, it's appreciated Oh forgot to say i've sub'd you and will take a look at what you get up to, cheers. take care Kev

@@MrFactotum No problem, I recognised the drawings as one of his PDFs. His website is old shool (just like us!) and he has a unique style of navigation that took some getting used to, even back in the day, but it is a mine of useful information. As to the sub: I don't make content! The only videos I have are the outcome of a failed collab -I captured some video for inclusion in one of his videos but he was hit worse by the weather than I was and didn't manage to get anything at all. I just added some captions and stuck the video up rather than waste it... I have no idea why people subscribe (apart from one, who likes owls and thinks I might one day post some video of some :~D) and I have no idea how they find me. Anyway, I will understand when you prune your subscription list as it becomes overloaded :~D All the best.

@@MrFactotum I am certain Nell will be done long before me. I would love too as well. Trying to decide to stick with the full table mounted version from the book or your more clever tweaks to the grinder mount version. Excellent job again so many great details shown.

Nice video Kevin, I built one of those but haven't used it very much. Very nice to geta run down on the operation and well documented by your camera. I like the way you mounteded it to work on the left side wheel, enjoyed, cheers! And for anyone out there wanting to make one, Harold Hall has a couple of books with the plan in it, and it is fairly simple to build.

Eyup H1951 Thanks for the feedback, yes i forgot to say it can be adapted for any side of the grinder.!! I've used it for 10 year ish and found it very useful and as you say very simple to make, works much quicker now with the simple mods. One or 2 people have mentioned the website, i know this version is'nt in my book but the book, but when i bought it 2nd hand it had them loose in the book, apparantly they can be downloaded, but if anyone can't find them, a quick email to me and i will send copies, thanks for watching take care Kev

Kevin, that was great! Going to make one for my diamond cup and lapping rig. Think what I will do as well is machine a step on the back edge of the stop block which is half the height of the cutter holder. That way I can rotate the cutter until the cutting edge rests on the shelf and lock it. This might remove my poor guess work during the set up. You going this will work? Cheers Neil
@MrFactotum
@MrFactotum 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Neil When i started to read your message, thought you were going to make one for your diamond "wedding" 🙌🤣🤣 Yes that's a great idea with the step to set the cutter, Do a video of a modification of the modifications by mr factotum of harold halls original un-modified version🤣😉😉👌👍 cheers Neil and Take Care Kev

@@MrFactotum I will show that modification along with your modifications and the additional modifications to suit the diamond wedding cup😁. The only drawback I can see is, if we change the design much more, Harold might not recognise it and think its a microwave 🤔 😅 Cheers Neil

@@NellsMechanicalManCave Great go for it! Neil, I have a diamond cup wheel for my grinder that i have not used as yet. We can keep refining this to the point were you can even make it automated!!! with your fantastic induction magnet auto feed mechanism, then sit back and watch it sharpen itself!!🤣🤣👌🙌🤔 all Harolds info is free on his website, he is in his 90's now i believe, and a great engineer, don't think he would mind. Interesting and well explained. Out of interest where did you get the actual drawings from and how much did they cost, I only have the book though mine is the updated version. As you know I have a number of bench grinders.... Though I did see another really old really heavily built one at the scrapyard I might go and buy because it has been calling my name...
