Those small boot flails are primarily a grass flail, we swapped our bomford boot flails for t flails, world of difference 👍

Morning Richard, To get a better finish put the roller up in it’s highest position so it’s not going to touch the hedge, the roller only there for grass verge mowing. I used to take the roller off for hedge cutting, just gets in the way and effects the airflow through the head. Manufactures don’t like you taking the roller off as they say it weakens the head. Boot flails are fine for annual growth, T flails are good for thicker stuff and this time of the year when it’s more tougher going. Good luck Crac on

Always keep a fairly good balance on the rotor, when grinding the flails, or risk the rotor bearings wear or break

Looks like its more cost effective to just replace the lot. You could be on hours trying to grind them back to the right angle. Just make a point of giving the new ones a quick grind each time you take the hedge trimmer off and it will keep them good for longer.

Best of luck with everything on the farm there now 👍👍👍

Morning funky! You should sharpen them quite often because if you think about it they have an edge on them when they are new so why not keep that edge on them when you are using them.you would probably be better taking them off and sharpening them in a vice to get back to good metal but that is a long job.

Good morning funky farmer ,have a good day and thanks for the content.

Not a great idea to put a brand new flail boot on with worn ones as you can affect the balance and cause premature wear on the bearings. You want to weigh one of the used flails and then grind the new one back to a similar weight.

Hi, how are you today? I can tell you I never change a blade. on overwhelm because eventually it’s gonna break or fall off and I never sharpen them either because it worked just fine if they are sharp or not they’re just hammers not a blade call them hammers and I did a lot of roads where I work on every day to keep the brush away from the road every year keep growing back. I hope you have a nice day. Don’t work too hard. let your son have fun and don’t poison him

That blade you were using Rich looked like a cutting blade, not a grinding blade. Cutting blades are very thin compared to grinding ones. Be careful. I’ve seen some really bad accidents where the blade has shattered because they aren’t made for the sideways pressure grinding enforces.
@thefunkyfarmer5 ай бұрын
no its definitely a grinding blade

Nothing like grinding them down Richard 😮😂.. yip safe places are just that ... put somthing down thinking I'll just leave it there for a while... then boom..... where the heck has it gone... 🤪.. yip do that my fair share... luckily my wife can find most things that i cant 😂.. stay safe 🏴

You need a mains grinder that battery Ryobi is ridiculously weak. I've got a Bosch 18v that's brilliant but I always use the mains for the heavier stuff.

Is there need to cut these hedges that arent a hazard on the roads? Is it just to make it tidy looking. Some hedges around me have been absolutely butchered.
@thefunkyfarmer5 ай бұрын
its just best practice to keep road hedges trimmed to allow greater visibility of on coming traffic. I know what you mean about hedgerow butchery, unfortunately some farmers treat them very badly

Could you not contract your hedge trimming out it's very time consuming, then get your self a baler and wrapper for the farm that would probably save you more money in the long run doing your own baling especially now the kids are getting old enough to help a bit at silage time 🤔.
@richardmatthews33045 ай бұрын
The plastic alone would cost Richard as much money as getting the contractors to do the silaging, with the hedge cutting it's a job you can do in between other jobs

Hi Richard! Well!! Those nasty scammers! I almost just got pulled in. A KZbinr that I commented to replied, asked me to chat on telegram. His telegram account made it look like the real KZbinr. He was very flattering, thanking me for following his channel, blah blah blah, and today is my lucky day, cuz he was giving away a mac book pro to one of his fans. I *only* had to pay $50 shipping! At first, cuz they offered to let me use paypal, I thought, okay that sounds secure. But then I thought, why am I paying shipping on my gift? And then I thought who are these people? I googled free mac book pro, and it's a common scam on social media to get you to send money. HA!!! So I shut that right down. I'm so glad you shared your experience, it I think I would have fallen for it.
