I start a new base on one of the hardest asteroids (Aridio) using the hardest difficulty settings possible. It should make for an interesting playthrough. Can we survive in Oxygen Not Included?

a large part of your problem is the priority creep you are experiencing. i would recommend pausing the game for a couple minutes off camera and re-organize your priorities. you have a LOT of priority 8 things: all your food, the metal masher, deoxydiser. all of your new dig/ build orders are often priority 8, etc. if you paused and took the time to reset the priorities down to manageable levels then you would have more room to play with the priorities of things you want to do on camera. also if you tinker with the dupes priorities (such as making the farmer higher priority to get the harvest) then they are more likely to do things they are better at, reducing time waste, even if it barely makes a difference that could save you 10-15 minutes a play through. EDIT: Stinky will be a great rancher all his skills are for ranching. promotes ashkan. ok that works too. 23:00 oh no don't dig up the wild oxyfern! it costs no water wild! 23:44 and its gone... you stopped the mush bars to prevent them from using the germy materials, oh dear they are gonna get sick. 50:45 ashkan and stinky both only have 2 bedtime blocks. (you accidently replaced a bedtime with a downtime block. 51:20 sand is good, but there was also a pretty good artist there as well. 58:00 yay did some of the priority stuff.

@@GrindThisGame This doesn't just apply to critters. Dupes can build and supply things on the tiles opposite a closed door. In other words, you can have a perfect airlock with no soggy debuff as long as you keep everything only one tile away from the door.

By the way making the Mush bars into Mush Fry kills all the germs in them even if they are made by recycle water, however that requires you to either have a decent cook or it will increase the time per calorie by 50% or so. But perhaps avoiding Diarrhea might be worth it. Establishing the Grill are usually my first priority since cooked foods have no germs and it also increases the amount of calories and shelf life the food have. These days I start all my hard mode maps with a Researcher, Cook and builder. I used to start with at least a digger, but concidering all the maps I've played since the launch they are either; Covered with germs or have really extreme temperatures who requires Insulation or other time intense builts.... not to mention that the dupes feel more stupid then ever. :o) But I really enjoy that you also enjoy the park and nature reserve feature, however you have to use it properly, having a nature reserve noone enters are useless sadly. I usually try find a good reserve early on and make it my "central point" with entrances from above, below left and right. That way most dupes pass trought during each cycle. Or you need tons of them... I also usually make natural Drecko habitats into my pens since they come with everything they need like hydrogen and eatable plants. I just add or remove tiles to hit the 96 tiles sweetspot(Or make room for the machines). Most wood biomes also come with great pre built ranch pens for the handling of the Pips, usually a few wild trees for them to eat etc. Not to mention that you can easially just place down a container and drop spare seeds for them to plant since the wood biome have mostly dirt to begin with, if there is no dirt I place down some planters for them.

I like the idea of natural ranches :) in ep 5 I make my central ladder a nature reserve :) I didn't know all cooked food had zero germs. Good to know.

@@GrindThisGame Food produced on the grill have the added effect of removing all the germs from the product. The grinder however don't have this effect. What's important to know when it comes to cooking are that the "ingredients" and the "final meals" are stored seperately. Cause even if a pickled mealwood ration are indeed sterile, placing it togheter with a hastely produced mush bar will cause the germs to spread. You can even make mush bar trought recycled water, as long as these are made into fry's you won't have any germs on them. If you set the permission on Mush bar, to not be allowed to be eaten, they won't eat your ingredient before cooks can turn them into mush fry(greater returns on your water anyways).Hence why having a skilled cook early is such a QoL change in hard mode. Even if being sick won't kill a duplicant, it slows them down significantly. My Catalina had a cooking skill of 9, so when I see my food won't last I just order up five or so "do not eat mush bars" and make her ready to make fry's, It's a bit longer of a production cycle but the 250 extra clories and no germs sure makes it worth it. Pickled meals may be grizzly however the shelf life on those are huge, so It's the perfect food to stock up on.

I watched the Pips steal seeds from the storage about 3 times while you were having the dups build the smart battery! I didn't know they did that! They planted 3 trees that I know of almost immediately.

When digging through hydrogen pockets, try to enter them as low as possible, that way most of the hydrogen stays trapped in the pocket, and only the excavated layer gets released into your base. You could have dug through only a single layer of hydrogen in this case, by entering 2 blocks lower. I know it's not that big of a deal, but it's the little low effort things that can make life a little easier sometimes... :)

I know you like efficiency. If there's a light above a station, the dupe receives a 15% spood boost to work. I've been watching the game since it came out but only learned that a couple days ago. Thought I'd share in case I wasn't the only one in the dark about it. Pun intended.

Hello Dude, really like your vids. For those Pip ranchs you should check how to make them plant the trees with enough space in between using ladders or blocks, you will get more wood out of it. Also remember to unselect the seed from the storage, your pips keep kicking the seeds out and you dupes waste time putting them into storage again.

You can put a seed in a storage bin, deconstruct the bin and the seed will eventually plant itself. Takes a while but it can be a fun side project. Definitely effective if you want to plant a single seed.(Just keep those pesky pips away)

i am not sure man but concentrating Oxy fern into 1 area seems to be terrible idea. The CO2 don't flow into the Fern area as you want, sometimes they just stay in pocket all over your base. Better keep at least 1 in every area that have a hole shape.

I saw your tutorial episodes and your guides regarding heat control, germs etc, that's why I thought you might be able to help me with one question. also haven't really found a guide to water management, so: How do you manage water once you run out of the little water pockets that you start with? I thought of filtering polluted water and then heating it up (twice in 2 little "pools"), but it's not working properly and also it's taking lots of time. Any tips?

4 liquid resevuars in succession in a bleach room will kill the germs from the sieved clean water. If that's what you meant?

Chlorine is really the way to go. Another way to get chlorine is with the canister system. A canister emptier is simple. A canister bottler is a bit more complicated as you need power for a pump. But on Terra you have caustic biomes close by. Canisters also allow you get a high pressure quickly, which prevents offgassing of stored slime. There are ways to automate that system, but with so many reservoirs you can use simple valves and switch them manually now and then to clear out the overflow. It takes a while to fill up Other ways to get fresh water: * desalinate salt water. Doesn't take much power, so you can run it on a hamster wheel * sieve the germ free polluted water in the toxic biome * get ice from the ice biome and build ice temp shift plates above your water basin. This also cools down your water. You can also melt small chunks of ice in a storage container, but it takes a long time

You really need to actually let pips plant seeds. You did it in your last base a lot too. The pips knock the seeds out the storage and then the dupes come and put them back in. This means the pips have to knock them out again.

The rust deoxidizer is tricky. It runs very hot and puts out hot iron too. Placing it directly in the base is a no-no. I'm currently trying to build one in the rust biome, but it's going so slow that I might still suffocate :) I'd probably have been better off desalinating salt water and electrolyzing that

It seems ice in containers lasts a ridiculous amount of time when the mass is high. Huge ice blocks go down in temperature very, very slowly. Smaller chunks melt faster though

I've tried that asteroid with magma channels, volcanoes poor metal and geodes... I got problems at cycle 14 and kept struggling so hard that i lost almost all water without making progress and considered the game lost as i lost my 1st dupe on cycle 54... I've never tried that hard to survive in any game AND lost it! :0 The main reasons were about accidentally researching a single wrong tech while expending too quickly without airlocking everything.. Then it was too hot and i couldn't manage it, to freeze the farming areas properly, while trying to get to this water steam gysir.. I don't even know if 3 dupes each with diver's lungs were the right choice for that..

Just a little constructive criticism...I have to say that I completely lost interest in this particular play through when you took the wheezewart so early on. Imho it completely removed the novelty of this map and thus the tension of whether you could handle the conditions. Starting food is the hurdle you need to overcome on this map, and other than that it plays pretty much like a temperate map and in some ways even easier. Not a knock on you, I probably would have done it if it was my own play though, but it definitely lessened the entertainment value for me.
