I searched on youtube videos about making various dowels and found easier methods day by day, but i think yours is the climax of my search. Thank you for sharing my friend..regards from Indonesia.

Thanks. Made one yesterday and made 30 dollars worth of walnut and oak dowels. Best jig award. Thanks for sharing.

Finished mine and made some 5/16th, 3/8, and 1/2 inch dowels from oak stock and all of them turned out great! No need for buying high priced hardwood dowels anymore!! Could not be happier with it. Did add a guard onto the back end to prevent any "biting"

Thanks for pointing out that you made the dowel hole to close to the table. You’ve probably saved a bunch of woodworkers a bunch of frustration.

Made a bunch of quarter inch dowels today with the jig. They are more finicky then the 3/8" dowels. I found the smaller stock size would splinter if I tried to pull the part that was in the drill chuck like I did with the 3/8" dowels. The quarter inch dowels wouldn't take the stress as well. I just cut off the square part. Worked very well once I got it dialed in. I did make a extra set of blocks as my first set had shifted and went back to just a 3/8" starter hole to the quarter inch out hole. The tolerance with the quarter inch dowels is much more picky. I went from having a few store bought dowels to having over a hundred just using my scrap oak, maple, cedar, walnut. The oak gave me the most trouble in the smaller size of dowel. GREAT JIG!

Very easy to make! Perfect result! I've watched a lot of videos and this is the best dowel making device I've ever seen. So far I have used a metal plate with matching holes. Now I`ll make this dowel maker. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for such a detailed video.
@johnlshilling14463 жыл бұрын
I can't improve upon the comments that are already here, just like I can't improve anything about your dowel device. The fit and finish are second to none. There are a lot of great ideas here on KZbin, but few demonstrate the skills you've shown. Very nice. This could be a real money maker for anyone willing to make dowels. Quality dowels "Not Be Cheap!" They are hard to find and seldom come in a variety of woods. Plus, chucking a drill onto the finished end would allow you to finish each dowel by pulling the final few inches through... Worth it instead of just cutting off the square end? IDK... Just a thought. Just a little less waste.

I'm. Attempting. TODAY!. The other jigs where you pound the dowel through metal or even chuck it up to drill are just a royal pain. Too much effort for one stinking 4" dowel. THANK YOU! Hope I can make mine as precise as yours.

Thought this was a great design and built it, inititially dowels were coming out undersized. Realized that when I marked the high point of my blade, it was in the full up position. Later when using the jig to make dowels, the blade was lower. My saw pivots when raising the blade so the high point was actually further back. Once I adjusted the mark on fence to correspond to the new peak worked like a champ. Apprec I ate you sharing the design.

That would be a good way to make arrows for a recurve bow! I am thinking cedar with a lamination of hickory or ash or maple in the center to stiffen them as well depending on the poundage of the bow !

Thank you very much for showing this! I had already created a very 'no nonsense' dowel jig what was working (without the tablesaw), but i kept thinking about one with the tablesaw, came across your video and decided to make it tonight. I did change some things (because that made it easier for me: - i did not do your thing with the bolds and wing nut-thingy, i just uses a screw that i can turn in and out (filed the tip of a little) That saved me a lot of time and i believe it works as well. Ah, and i had to make the jig to understand why you created the part at 3:07, i thought you used it to make it easier to insert the long stick, but it had a different (better) reason ;-) I made it tonight, and tried it on one (i only created 1 size for now) and although the top of the stick came out smaller (i think because it was not really centered when entering), the big middle part was perfect. Thanks again!

I've seen a dozen or so of these diy dowel makers I even bought the lee valley one and sent the thing back. This is the best effort yet that I've seen the only real limitation on the surface finish is the blade and feed speed. Use a Non ferros metal blade ( one without those annoying devils ears) and your Finnish should be superb.

Very brillant jig! Made out of nice solid oak and not some plywood which is a nice touch. Really like it and intend to give it a try, which is nice as you are providing free plan. And I mean, real free access plans, not a "give me your email and you'll receive them". Bravo! However, I've a question and didn't find the answer in the plans. Went trough a bit of comments, hoping I would find the answer but same same. You mention that the first hole should be bigger and of the size of the sticks. But what have been the "ratio" you applied for your dowels??? First hole being 1.5x bigger than the diameter of the final dowel? Something like that? I'd appreciate if you could get back to me and it might be useful for others too! Thanks Greetings from Vietnam!
