+ Inventive as ever! Hat's really smart use of existing parts. Where do you live? Soviet stuff is very hard to get here in the netherlands😉 I can only wish I could be as good at metalwork as you are. The ony way to get the big spindle to run smoother is by turning it straight on a lathe. That can be s simple construction like bolting it over an axle with bearings n both sides. Then sanding it round doesn't vibrate as much. Those vibrations give a larger movement at the top of the spindle than at the bottom. That's why you can't get them out with running it from a single sided bearing.

Nicely designed and manufactured. The reason the large diameter is vibrating is because your only attachment is below the table. So any irregularities will be amplified. Other than making the support shaft solid and balanced perfect, you will just have to deal with it... Thumbs Up! My Grizzly spindle sander has the motor shaft (armature) extend all the way up to the top of every diameter spindle setup. So that helps control the vibrations of any of the diameter spindles installed.

My suggestion would be to make your arbor for the larger drum a larger diameter. That’s a pretty thin piece of tubing you used. Try something bigger diameter and after you have put on all the wood pieces you could try to static balance the spindle. I believe that would solve all of your wobble. Remember weebles wobble but don’t fall down 😂😂. Seriously I think you should try it. Otherwise I’m very impressed! I’ve been a toolmaker for 50 + years and find your skills to be awesome! I really like how you made the video too 🤙🏻🤙🏻. Well done young man.

Very nice! The vibration with the larger spindle most likely has to do with the laminated plywood circles having some inconsistencies in the layers (voids, denser wood in some places, etc.) creating the vibration when spun. If you have any MDF laying around, that might make for a more balance material for the larger spindle.

First of all, nice job! You can clearly see from the video the big one is spinning out of center. Most lickely due to unbalance and long but thin spindle axle. No (wood) lathe around? A way around it is to make a "brace" for the spindle with a bearing to stabelize the spindle and then sand it with your blok to make it more consistent. After tbat you can balance the big one on the axle! This should take care of most or all of the vibration. Hope this helps

great idea! and flawless, no-nonsense execution. The vibration it's due (most likely) to the coupling and using a threaded laminated rod for the extension of the motor spindle. Maybe use a turned 1 piece shaft that has a register taper on the table side so it centers the drums, and has a counterbore for assuring better concentricity at the motor end.

Чтобы не было вибраций, надо переходник и шпильку заменить на единую деталь, желательно с напуском на шпиндель (там конус небольшой к месту). Ну и шлифовальные валики сделать на более толстостенной трубе.

Great Job Sir! You done well🙂

+ Great job my friend. Thank you for making this video. The bigger diameter sander spindle vibrates because it needs to run much more concentric. Set up a square on the table top close to the spindle and turn it until you find the high and low spots, then lightly tap the top end of the spindle to true it up. The closer you get it run concentric, the lesser the vibration you will get. Once again, thank you for the video. You did a fantastic job.

all i can say is wow, I build most of my own shop tools to save money, but after watching the buildmi would have to say the harbour fright 179 dollar two shaft spindle sander with base looks awfully tempting, it has a small diameter and larger two inch snding drums and comes with two bags of different grit replacemnt sanding tubes and i cant see doing this build which i estimate would take in excess of twenty man hrs and about 300 us dollars in hardware to build, you may have a superior unit , but you paid well for it ,. keep up the good work.

Very nice video In my opinion the problem is focused on the wood discs you used for the sandpaper (they don't have the same density) and the way you attached the car bottle 1: If you want, replace the disks with some kind of plastic 2: If you want electrowelding of the car bottle with metal corners and then screw it to your wooden base

Hi Gregory I don't know whether anyone has suggestions on the reason for your large drum wobbling, but my interpretation is that what you need to make are 2 round bosses that 1 fits above the Screwed socket where the Spindle from the Motor fits onto the Screwed Drive Spindle, and the Second boss that fits around the Screwed drive Rod & at the top of the Large drum, Beneath the washer which is below the Domed Nut. It's my belief that as there's play around both the bottom & the top of the Screwed rod and it's not therefore tight around the Screwed rod and insideof the aluminium tub, you're in effect making 2 bushings
