I've seen Leslie Wagner-Wilson's terrifying story of escape from Jonestown the night before. Totally courageous, a bunch of family members slid out of the compound by night thinking they would be killed at any moment, then became hopelessly lost in the dense jungle. I have nothing but admiration for her and her family. Carter has a FAR darker role in what went down that day though and I have nothing but contempt for him.

Something doesn't add up. Tim Carter, a Vietnam vet, leaves Jonestown with guns, all the money, and jewelry of murdered people, but says he didn't help kill people and says he couldn't stop it but was told to leave and skip the mass suicide, with all the money and jewelry of murdered people to give to a Soviet Embassy in Guyana? I doubt Jim Jones killed over 900 people alone. In fact, Jim Jones was shot in the head and they still don't know if it was murder or suicide or who shot him.

Look into the differing timings he's given of his movements, the fact he was armed but unable to save his wife and child, the ever-changing circumstances he describes which are contradicted by his brother and Mike Prokes, his situation as a close member of the inner circle pictured loyally at Jones' side frequently in the final hours (but his insistence that he was just an ordinary temple member), the fishy Russian embassy escape mission story, his familiarity with grisly combat in Vietnam, his total lack of grief in the following days after the Jonestown massacre. Far from being a poor victim, I think we're looking at one of the ones doing the poisoning and very possibly the one who shot Jones dead at the end of the massacre.

You're all just reveling in the anonymity the internet gives you to you tear down a man who is suffering and trying to bring awareness and clarity to a tragedy that has been misrepresented by the media for decades. It's easy to say that you wouldn't have done what he did in his shoes when the most hardship you've known is stepping in shit on your way to work. The saddest part though, is that The real reason you all nit pick and attack this man's actions without any sort of critical thinking is that it makes you feel good about yourselves, simple as that. It feels good to tear someone down and project how smart and strong you think you'd be in that situation, when really the majority of you woukd have provably ended up dead there like the others after going through what they went through. Brainwashing, conditioning, sleep deprivation...none of it is a joke. It can happen to anyone. And believing it can't happen to you is how you end up in a situation like jonestown.
