Follow MprooV on Twitter / mproovapp #agadmator Max Euwe: Perhaps I can shed a little more light on this. After 12…b4 in reply to 11 a4 played in reply to 11…b5, Petrosian acquires not just one asset on the Queen side, but a number of them, which is to say that Unzicker contracts not just one weakness on the Queen side but a number of them. One consequence of this is that Petrosian acquires an additional asset on the Queen side, control of the c file, which is to say that Unzicker contracts an additional liability on the Queen side. All these make up collectively not a small advantage but a great advantage. In fact we can say that for the remainder of the game, Black's entire Queen side is crying in wounded agony, impairing thoroughly Black's ability to contest the duel. Is it then any wonder then, that Petrosian should perform overwhelmingly, as Euwe says? So the explanation is that Petrosian acquires not a small advantage but a great advantage, a great advantage which Petrosian is able to make count, so as to perform overwhelmingly.

I think Petrosian is one of the best tacticians ever, because in order to be an effective defender you have to see all the tactics just as well as the attacker, and defending itself is inherently tactical. Tal and Petrosian are two sides of the same coin.

Thanks so much for posting a Petrosian game. He doesn't have the flash of a Fischer or a Tal (who does?) but his moves are so logical that even I can understand them. Petrosian chess is sound chess. A study of his games is time well spent for both club players and experts. Iron Tigran. I really like this guy.

Initially I thought it will be like Short's King March, but it's rather creative idea than that one,he built a castle on both sides of the board and switches his King to queenside as black can't do the same thing as well, then blast opens the kingside. It was like setting up some bombs on kingside and runs towards the other side as white king would suffer as well !wow! what an unique thought,amazing...btw very nice stream today and hope I'll see you in an upcoming streams and Thanks for these videos ...

Thanks for showing this game on your channel. It's one of the fir5st games I've ever seen, over 45 years ago when I was still a child and had one chessbook only, in whicht this was a game shown in the first chapter. I have been promoting this one ver since, and am very happy to see it on your channel. Petrosian later played another game in which he repeated the trick of moving his king from g1 to b1. A defensive king march, maybe not so spectacular as the offensive king march in Short versus Timman, but still a revelation.

And comparing to these days where AI-Chess is showing us the way - especially AlphaZero loves King Safety and once it controls the opponent in the middle game in a way that there is no more move of improvement left - Alpha Zero is not afraid of king marches and remaneouvering to improve the defence before the final strike. These theme can be observed in many games - so very interesting. And in a way a tribute to Iron Tigran as well - of course.

AFAIK, it's dangerous to attack kingside when your king is also on the kingside. One mistake and the opponent may crush not only your attack, but also your defense, winning tempo on your own king and etc.

I see a lot of chatter about the pronunciation of Unzicker's name. A way around this would be to run the names thru Google Translate and play the audio if there's some doubt about the pronunciation. I think Ken Middleton, the announcer at Mohawk, does something like this before he calls a harness program to try and get right the names of the horses and drivers. He's one of the best in the business. Here's his call of the Pepsi North America Cup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/novOhoicmpx5f5I
