We went from the land of saints and scholars to sinners and consumers. Neoliberalism is endemic. The Celtic tiger gave the people a taste of something they couldn't sustain and didn't care to consider the inevitable crash we were headed for. Few harbingers of doom heralded the news of impending disaster but drunk on greed and new found wealth, the people ignored the systemic virus that was going to cá a halt to the tigers advances. The crash cost many ordinary people dearly and never recovered from, having experienced the intoxication of that first hit, today they desperately attempt to retain the habit but they know deep down, its time for sobriety, responsibility, sensibility and wisdom. Egoism, greed, materialism, sloth, gluttony, the list goes on and on, are rampant. Its time for those who stand to the anthem, who cheer our nation in sporting events, who wield power, who hold pride and respectful views of the freedoms won at many a sacrafice, to remember our culture, our history, our heritage, our quintessential qualities and have the integrity and honor to hold firm against the rising global fascism, enemies foreign and within.
