I think Unmoored Ego's time has finally come in this meta where everyone is playing combo decks and signalling which one with their companion so you can disable their main threat on turn 3

I've said that on reddit before and then got downvoted into oblivion for saying Unmoored Ego was good xD It hasn't stopped me from running 2 Unmoored Egos in my 5c Niv Mizzet reborn deck. Been really nice so far to pick off threats like Agent, Zenith Flare and the like before my opponent can cast them.

The problem I personally have with ego is that... if I wanna play an ego deck, it has to be a deck that's built around it... Back in the day, I had a mastermind ego deck and it was one of my favorite decks... now granted has replaced mastermind but... it just doesn't work for me cause the enemy knows what I grabbed... but that deck was just a lot of wipe, counter, heal, draw till you get the solution from your sideboard... If I'm gonna play ego, and I've been trying to build a deck around it last few days, it has to be a counter/mill deck... cause ego is basically mill with extra steps... so usually I'll want something like clear the mind or devious cover-up to get it back and just keep milling the enemy while controlling the board so I don't die... and it's been hard to come up with a deck that would do it for me... mostly cause I don't play mtga a lot anymore... the concept of "wins get you progress" doesn't work for someone who likes to play jank more then play for wins :)

I like how playing unmoored ego basically means you get to see what everyone is playing in their entire deck if you want to crib their tech.

Also he said bad use of mana. Likex all the super meta decks I can think of use four copies of one key card to win out. Take those away consistently and you usually win. I've started playing black a ton lately because it contains a lot of good answers to things people like to play right now and this card always makes it itlnto the side at least

@@zmadbassist He said bad use of mana because it's 3 mana and most control decks need to be impacting the board state a bit more on turn 3, this one is a bit stronger on 2 drops so it's not quite as bad (particularly if you're about to extinction event or lazav into kroxa turn 4)

You said "octopi" and I'm a huge language nerd and octopuses are my favorite animal, so... fun fact: The word "octopus" actually has three different correct plurals! The "most" correct is octopuses, but because of people incorrectly attempting to standardize how words from none Germanic origins pluralize in English (we USED to use the rules of the original language, but now we use English rules on foreign words) and using the wrong root of the word octopus (It's Greek in origin not Latin) we ended up with three correct rules. But, because of the time "octopus" was added to the English language it should use English rules in pluralizing so "octopuses" would have been correct if not for all the confusion. But, as I said all of them are acceptable! =D

On a side note, I find Witching Well works great with Lurrus. The Scry 2, draw 2, is a beautiful thing in the late game. I prefer this over Lantern as a 1-drop.

Just a thought for the exile gameplan. Run 3 mana kaya in the sideboard and 1 plains in the main that you can grab with fabeled Passage. Can grab with the fae. Idk. Might be a bad idea.

The second matchup, you could tell they had blue in their deck because the mystical dispute mana cost was lowered. You can also tell when an opponent plays an Undergrowth deck because the Golgari symbol shows when you hover over their deck.

I’ve been playing a orzhov afterlife sacrifice list with lurrus (non companion) and broodmoth. It’s doing surprisingly well even without the kitty combo. It’s worth exploring if you like the archetype

Really surprised you're not running either a mire's grasp or dead weight main or side for a decent removal spell that synergizes with lurrus. Would give you a cheap option to grab with Fae that could be looped in the creature matchups like mono red, obosh or lurrus decks. Prob better than Ashiok in the side since you have some redundancy there in your PW suite

@44:30-ish when opponent attacks and Robber of the Rich trigger is on the stack, you should cast your Scorching Dragonfire so that Robber doesn't exile a card. you instead let the trigger RESOLVE and THEN cast it!!! Donkey!

I think this deck should run legion's end. It feels like the extra information about the opponents deck is just a thing this deck needs to manage resources efficiently, and it synergizes with unmoored ego. Also, it's in some cases a turn 2 boardwipe on the draw.

The opponent had already attacked at that point, so no. If he'd killed it sooner though (i.e. as soon as it entered the battlefield), then yes he could have stopped it from stealing his cards. I don't think CGB anticipated his opponent getting such lucky draws off the top of his own deck though.
