There was no time skip between the feast and the wedding. They shotgunned the wedding and did it same night/morning because nobody wants to keep dealing with this and just see it done (see the food still on the tables, they're wearing same clothes, blood not even cleaned up). Also one funny way to look at the king towards the end of the episode: When the brawl happens it looks like he is so fucking tired of everything around him that he would rather just up and die on the spot lmao

I think that, given Ser Joffrey's horrible death, the King and the Velaryons probably decided to hurry the wedding along instead of having the planned week of feasting and tournaments and celebrations leading up to the big event. It would look odd if Laenor was sobbing into his ale at the pre-wedding events. It was obvious that he was a wreck; so they just hauled in a Septon (looked like the High Septon from his regalia) and got the kids definitely married.

On Criston: First, he had his heart broken by Rhaenyra rejecting him. He loves her more than she loves him. He had no idea he was 2nd choice that night to Daemon. He sacrificed everything for that night, while for Rhaenyra it was more about exploring her sexual freedoms. Coming to grips with the fact he broke his sacred oath - the only thing he has - for what amounts to casual sex, broke him. He even asked Alicent for a merciful death for it. He was utterly tormented over all of this, so when Ser Joffrey comes to talk to him (making a fair play imo), Joffrey has no idea that Criston is already ready to explode. He's lost everything, and knows that with his oath broken all itll take is Alicent's word and he's a dead man. So when Joffrey prods him about knowing his secret, casually dangling in front of his face that he knows hes an oathbreaker, he snaps. Criston couldnt handle Rhaenyra rejecting him or the shame of breaking his oath, and he took it out on Joffrey who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and said the wrong thing. And with nothing left at all, without Rhaenyra willing to love him and without his honour, he was ready to kill himself until Alicent intervened.
@dsfddsgh2 жыл бұрын

@@dsfddsgh that was him choosing love over honour. It would still have sullied his cloak, but at least he would have something else equally dear to him. But since Rhaenyra rejected him, he has neither
2 жыл бұрын
There's not much indication that he loves Rhaenrya to any great extent. This was all about him breaking his oath and sacrificing his honor. He wanted to marry her as a way to somehow restore it, not because he loved her.
@getass32902 жыл бұрын
@ He lost his honor in the first place because he slept with her. To him it was a trade almost, his honor for his love. But he ended up getting neither because he didn’t realize Rhaenyra didn’t love him the same way.
@getass32902 жыл бұрын
@ That’s not the sole reason why. He’s basically saying that if he commits himself to this relationship that it’s not as bad as him ruining his vows because he was lustful. But in the end it’s because he loves her more than his honor that he was in this situation at all. And he saw it as a better alternative to abandon his old life with Rhaenyra than to repair it.

This was the best episode. Criston's breakdown followed a logical path for a prideful medieval knight who takes his honor & vows as seriously as he takes his chastity. Even better was Alicent’s rage buildup with Otto's salient point, news about the tea & Cole's confession letting her know who was responsible for her dad's banishment. Daemon serving asa wedding red herring qas great. It's not a stretch to imagine that amidst the suddeness & disarray by the time anyone decided to act Criston had already walked away. After which it was Alicent who's responsible for his safety. The only reasoning that has to be given is why Viserys was compelled to go along with his wife over his son-in-law, which can be easily done. This was way more impactful than another repetitive jousting death. No wonder they’ll hurriedly marry after what happened. Frankly if anyone is confused on how a montage works cause Alicent was in both places, they don't need to insult their intelligence watching HOTD.. The suspense building all thru the wedding, climaxing with the beautiful dark montage, Ramin Djawadi score & the visual storytelling of Rhaeynra/Alicent's crossroads moment...was the best thing they've done as of yet.
@Alejojojo62 жыл бұрын
The love affairs were needed to explain why Sir Criston will be on the Green side, why Rhaenyra accepts the marriage and that Laenor is gay and would not have kids with Rhaenyra... so when she begans having kids... that would have its own implications.

The ending montage was my favorite scene so far. Give me the aesthetics of the red hue of the weirdwood tree glowing in twilight, give me the flickering lights, give me the gloomy ambience of a GoT wedding with an equally gloomy soundtrack & it’s A1! The slightly overlooked heartfelt exchange Otto & Alicent had at the beginning was the most significant moment of the episode imo, other than Viserys dropping. Otto is right. You either hope for Rhaenyra’s mercy in the future or you act now. It's the Tywin Jaime "we can establish a dynasty that last a thousand years" moment. The wedding sets up the first chess pieces for Dance of Dragons. Rhaenyra and Laenor were being told their wedding vows, but it was Alicent and Criston who were getting “married”.

@@marti9734 I think it would be harder to justify a civil war thou. Corlys wouldn't care either way because his blood will be on the throne. High towers and Lannisters wouldn't step up because if Viscerys married Laena none of them would have dragonriders to sway like they do now.

@thecoldestlightning2 жыл бұрын
Him not having his helmet was intentional, I think. Previous episode you saw how much he respects his armor and white cloak, even not wanting to play games with Rhanerya when she snags his helmet. I think this episode, him not having his helmet was supposed to convey that he was lost in his thoughts and self-pity; so much that he did things outside of his normal behavior - like being on duty without his helmet or beating a man to death.

Remembering that the book fire and blood is narrated by dubious narrators The book is told by rumors and gossip so it is not reliable, in the book it says that Daemon never likes his wife he hates her the daemon was forced to marry his wife she not important in the story In the book there is nothing about her just that she is married to Daemon and that after a while the news comes from her that she died and that she died falling off a horse is all that is said about daemon's wife in the Book Like I said, Daemon's wife is not important in the story, nobody cares about her and only see the scenes when she talks about Daemon's wife is when Rhaenys says Daemon's wife died, nobody cared about the news she said that's because she is not important, in the books it is not known if it was the daemon that killed his wife because when she dies the daemon is in a war so it is not known if it was him, in the series they put that it was the daemon that I kill his wife the daemon is not killing his wife because she had already lost the movement of her body so much so that he was leaving but the girl was very stupid opened her mouth so he killed her, the writers is Ryan they said they said that Daemon does not and the kill his wife if she doesn't open her mouth, more like she opened her mouth so he kill her Being a Christian if you soiled your white mantle it was because you wanted to because Rhaenyra didn't stick a knife in your neck forcing you to do what you did, do you really think that Rhaenyra And drop everything just to be with him my god this girl she is a princess she is heir to the throne she has her customs she is not one to drop everything to have a simple life , Rhaenyra is not in love with Christian she just wants to have fun she just wants sex nothing else Christian you are very emotional you are very deluded you and dumb rhaenyra would never give up everything for you christian you and only a knight have nothing to offer her

@pasqardini45322 жыл бұрын
I think after the first episode they couldn't do another one with another tournament just to get Joffrey killed. In the book, Criston kills him so they combined events so as not to waste too much time on a secondary character like Joffrey. Meleys is ok for me, there will be time to see her better. Harwin and Laena:We will see them more on screen from the next episode as you can see from the trailer. Jason literally said 3 short lines of dialogue and was on screen like 30 seconds. Rhea is mentioned less in the book than here. The only thing out of place is Criston's last scene. It doesn't make sense that nobody does anything after Cole kills someone during a ceremony, in the book it happens during a tournament organized to celebrate the wedding.

Why did Criston offer to leave the Kingsguard and Rhaenyra to run away with him? Then he outs himself to Alicent when he should've lied like Rhaenyra did! Then he commits public murder and no arrest? Makes no sense. Did he think Rhaenyra was going to give up her position and run away with him? How is this finding honor? Running away to Essos and being a commoner with Rhaenyra? 🤣 He's acting like such a simp. Poor Ser Crispin because he's also now being accused for a hate crime! Karen viewers trying to cancel the guy because Rhaenyra got super horny one night. But it takes two to tango and he did commit a sin himself by getting seduced like that. Crispin looks dumb to some viewers. Now he's on Alicent's side. I think his whole story arc makes zero sense. Now he's being accused for killing a gay man he just met because Joffrey knew his secret.

So… The virginity of princesses in this setting (especially in the books) actually mattered a lot, especially when wedding two rich houses. And Ser Criston felt the only honorable way to go about his actions was to marry, and since he couldn’t do that, he felt so guilty, he told Queen Alicent. And let’s be honest, the questioning from the Queen made it seem like she knew what they did already, but Ser Criston had no way of knowing she was referring to Daemon.
@mat75062 жыл бұрын
I mean, he is a kingsguard. Who was supposed to stop him? We don't know exactly what happened there between them, he could simply say that the princess was threatened by the words Joffrey whispered in his ear and that they could have been used to ruin Rhaenyra's reputation. So he does his job. ("save the princess and kill whoever puts her at risk"). Who cares if someone's favorite dies when this death saves the future of the heir to the throne?Corlys and Rhaenys could not expose themselves because they were aware of Leanor's true nature.
