I was on vacation at the beach when I needed a knot for groceries. I found out I didn't need rope because the plastic bags already had what I needed.

Normal people would have just threaded the pole through the loops. But I love this.

This was designed to test a knot intended for use on a hotel luggage cart. Are you suggesting he take the luggage cart apart to thread the bags through? The hotel won't be thrilled with that idea...

@@jimmeyers8960 I get the purpose. Like I said, I love the ingenuity behind it. I'm a huge fan of Rube Goldberg.

@@792slayer But it's not rube goldberg. Forget the truck demo. You have several plastic grocery sacks and a luggage cart. How do you attach the bags to the cart? This is really a slick knot for that application.
@nyetloki
@nyetloki Жыл бұрын
@@jimmeyers8960no you just tie the rope to the luggage cart, thread the rope through the bags and tie the rope off on the other side of the luggage cart. Treat the rope like the pole.

Sadly because the people allow it all, all this eco green bullshit has to stop. There are legitimate things much more critical that are not being addressed.

Good riddance to one-time use plastics. It only takes a moment to bring shopping bags with you to the market. Why buy a marlin spike when you can throw away the whole rope every time you make a new knot?

I just pull the opposing handles through twice, but if you really want it secure, XL carabiner. Can carry 10 bags at once.

i worked at a grocery store as a teenager and i did this all the time (for small orders). loop one handle around and through and hand the customer the top loop, that tensioned itself down to close off the bag so nothing fell out and they had an easy loop handle to carry.

when i zip up double zippers, such as on a backpack, i usually loop the pull tabs inside each other 2 or 3 times, to keep them from coming unzipped, this kinda reminds me of that.... but mote of a knot.

I like your videos, I also looked at this with great interest. But that's so american: Plastic bags and a pickup truck with an open loading area... I take the shopping trolley to my station wagon, pack my purchases in the folding basket that I always have in the trunk and then carry my purchases into the house with the basket. Plastic bags needed: 0. Garbage produced without sense: 0. But, okay, nice (american) solution. 😉

You're right. It's just that pickups aren't common around here and I personally have to tie very little down in my closed wagon. I hope I didn't upset anyone - my comment wasn't meant to be malicious, but winking. I find the videos very useful and have learned a lot!

I wouldn't trust those t shirt bags make a net from bank or a similar size line then put groceries in the net, I've found Knotting Knots has a great net making playlist and you may find making nets is something you like like as it's just tying knots.

This could have been SO much less interesting. You could have said "Use this knot! I did. Here!". Instead, I really appreciated the trial and error and analysis. Great stuff. Thanks!

At 1:07, you talk about the sheet bend, but you didn't think of using the sheet bend *directly on the grocery bag loops*, without the need for rope (the way you figured out for the double-blackwall hitch). Doing this would be much more secure than the double blackwall hitch. I'm kind of surprised that your double blackwall hitch worked with the grocery bags. Perhaps grocery bag handles have a special ability to hold that knot. Paracord doesn't hold it well at all. I recommend the sheet bend instead.

I tie my bags by running one loop through the other and then do a basic knot (or maybe it's called a half knot 🤔).

is there a useful rope configuration for old bungie cord hooks after the bungie has snapped?
@jimmeyers8960
@jimmeyers8960 Жыл бұрын
That's tricky, because most bungies aren't very long. You'd need a bend (knot for joining ropes) that used a minimum amount of the remaining bungie. I'd try a sheep bend. Anything else starts to use more and more line.
