Groceries have went up on average 12% in our household. Way I'm fighting the prices is keeping my stockpile up and rotating. Eating 3 vegetarian dinners a week. Doing soup once a week and you need half the amount of meat for a soup. Also I map meals out using pantry first.

Our grocery budget has shot up about 50% since the beginning of the pandemic one year ago. We have always homeschooled, and my husband has always taken a lunch to work so we are not buying more food. Food cost has simply skyrocketed because of shut downs and quarantines affecting our food supply chains. Really ashame.

When I write my grocery list I put the price of the item and add it up. I have also been known on a really tight week to make a grocery pick up order play with it tell I get a total I want then going into store to get it.
@LI22IEEE4 жыл бұрын
That's basically what I do. I make my grocery list in the Walmart grocery app. My budget is $100 a week, so I add whatever is most important in there, and then add the wants until I hit that budget. I do take my Walmart list to our military commissary to get whatever is cheaper there, which usually leaves room for a couple impulse buys at Walmart 🤣
@danamcgowen90914 жыл бұрын
Yes! You can't make a list of $50 worth of groceries and expect it to be $30. Especially if the budget is tight you have to know what you are spending before you go in.

Same!!!! I’m so happy I’m not the only one. We FINALLY got our stimulus check yesterday which was what we really needed because we literally have a jug of tea and a ketchup bottle in the fridge right now. We have $100 left to spend and the Walmart app comes in handy in times like this.

When you make Matcha you’re suppose to temperature the water and you cannot let the water get passed 175 degrees F or else the matcha will burn and be really bitter. Personally I always warm up a bit water and mix the matcha, then I’ll warm up my coconut milk and pour 1 cup of warm coconut water with my green matcha. Add your sweetener

But for February I try to do what I call Frugal February. Usually I try to do a budget of $50 a week but seeing prices go up I increased to $65. Really trying to use up what I have in hand and only supplement what is truly needed. This includes an $100 eat out budget. This will definitely be a challenge but I am going to try and stick to it. Wish us luck.

Hi Jia! Here is our Household/food budget. We are two adults who eat most meals at home, sometimes my boyfriend goes out for lunch with a friend from work but I allways eat at home. My bf works full time from home, I mix about 80% home and 20% "on the run" at the moment. I cook everything from cratch accept I don´t bake all our bread. We don´t eat tons of snacks and stuff like that, I prefer fruit but my bf eats crisps about 1-2 times/week. We try to eat in season, local, organic aso. I am stricktly vegetarian, my bf eats meat and we both eat loads of veggies and fruit. We allways eat good, healthy food. Our whole household/food budget contains food, cleaning, hygiene, medicin, diesel and random household items. Before the pandemic the montly budget was 150-200 dollar but now we increased it to about 250 dollar. The prices are up and sometimes I can´t find exactly what I want and has to settle for a more expensive alternative just to get out of the store. Ofc I am looking for clearance items ; ) and we also have empty shelfs in the foodstores sometimes, mostly caused by the pandemic. I feel like at the moment it´s ok for us to have a little higher budget and avoid people and spend less time in the store. Fruits, veggies aso is cheaper here in Sweden than where you live and I think meat is about the same, diesel and petrol is much more expensive for us. As example, those bags of apples you buy, something like that would be 1-1.5 dollar here , locally produced ones grown without any pesticides. The applejuice bottles would be about 1.5dollar, organic and when we take the plastic bottle back to the store : ) we will get a refund usually 10, 20 or 50cent We don´t buy stuff like fresh strawberries when they are not in season we can get even more "green stuff" for our money. : D

Gia, I am from Liverpool England. If you were to buy your food from here it would be triple what you pay. We are known around the world for being one of the most expensive places on earth. For my husband and I we spend about 100 to 150 pounds per week. He is at work all day as well so he only has evening meal. I shop at Lidl. I do not like Aldi at all because the produce is much more of quality over here. Things and overall prices have gone way way above what they were. Plus we are in triple recession so girl things can only get worse for us. Gia I think American prices is so cheap for everything compared to ours because I love watching hauls for everything. I wish we lived over the pond girl. Much love ❤️😍 from Liverpool

I usually do Walmart, Kroger or target pick up weekly and then Costco or Sam’s once a month and I feel like overall, it’s a better bang for your buck doing that instead of aldi. I need to take some tips from you all. We are a family of 4. My husband works nights and I work days. My children are 2 and 4. I do use Instacart which I know marks up the prices but it’s what works for us because of our schedules and the Rona. I live in Washington State and on average I spend $200 a week at least :( I just did a grocery order and it was $120. And that was just one store. Usually I buy from Costco....and then either QFC or Fred Meyer which are Kroger stores here. Yikes! 😕

Yes, prices are going up and it's going to get worse. I'm amazed at what people will pay for strawberries. Ones that don't look good. Maybe it's my age, but some fruits are just seasonal and taste much better when we haven't had them for months. I'm at about $50 a week with two grown boys here. But, I bought my meat back in November, when it was on a major sale at Costco. Should last until April. If what I want isn't under $2 a lb., I can wait for those sales and restock.

@@hannahkayee831 Yeah, when asparagus goes up, it's off the menu. I'll go for broccoli and spinach. I did buy 3 lbs, 4 days ago but it was on sale for $.98 a lb at WinCo. We never got these things as kids. When winter came, we got canned tomatoes, canned veggies. We got citrus but not summer berries, watermelons or cantaloupe. I can buy pickled asparagus in the winter months cheap and have a couple of spears. This, all before the obesity epidemic.

@@hannahkayee831 Yeah, I'm in Montana, but was a kid in Baltimore. Asparagus is a spring vegetable. It is not year round for sure. At the end of next month it will start getting cheaper because the south is warming up. I used to get it cheap and can it, but it's mushy that way, I'd rather wait until spring.
