We only buy chicken and ground beef now. I only get it when it on sale for $1.99 and I stock the freezer. I make the meal plan based on what we have on hand and then just buy the things on sale in the coming month. I think that it is getting harder and harder every month with prices of everything going up quickly. I am always trying to stretch the meat with different things like having homemade pizza and enchiladas with rice inside with the meat. So hard without an oven and feeding 22 people.

Thanks for sharing. Your well-house pantry looks similar to ours. Because our house didn't have a pantry we built one in our garage. Even a small space can make a big difference in storage when you use shelving like that. The puppies are adorable. I'm sure you'll all have a great time with your company.

Yes meat prices especially at Costco I've noticed is pricy. I started shopping meats at local grocery stores, and GFS because they have clearence section. We're making it by shopping sales. I've gotten lucky and my freezer is full again. Even got two turkeys, 2 small hams as well for Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner to We love the Himalayan Kirkland kettle chips!

I noted you're paying much higher prices than we are in the South. I pay $1.79-$2 per pound for a whole pork loin. Pork shoulder is less, but I like the leanness of the loin. Can make carnitas, chops, and roasts from the loin. Also make lean ground pork to add to ground beef for meatloaf or meatballs. Eggs are wild in cost. I like organic free range. It is the closest I can get to home raised eggs since I live in the city. They are over $5 a dozen. Milk is extremely expensive here.

Is the family of 11 unable or unwilling to help provide food for themselves during their stay? I guess I’m wondering if the 11 people are all kids or adults? I think if it includes adults, expecting someone to provide 3 meals a day for their family of 11 is absolutely absurd. I’d have to decline if someone requested to stay at my home with their family of 11 when I already have a family of 11 to feed! This blows my mind 😮I would go broke feeding that many people with these insane prices lately. But you’re very generous for doing that! How many rooms are in your tiny home?

building a good relationship with your local farmers does help. I go around to my locals and buy other stuff as well like peaches and apples to can. I built a good rapport with one and he was able to get me a great deal from his friend for a whole beef for $3.60 per lb total. I went in with my sister for that and a whole hog she got from her friend for $1.50 per lb total. I got beef and pork for a year and half for less than $1900.

A meal we eat that is super delicious and not that much to make is taco soup. I make it in my crockpot all the time. I'm so glad we don't have to buy store bought. We just had a pig butchered. Of course hanging weight went up because of feed costs, but the kid we buy it from always gives us a decent discount because we buy a whole pig from him every year. The butcher prices went up but it wasn't as much as we thought it would. Really hoping to get our own steer and pigs this early Spring to raise ourselves now that we have the land to do it on. Insane what it costs to feed family or the help. That's how we always gave back when people would come help us...we fed them good too. What, don't y'all have any apple trees where you live that grows good apples? We have them everywhere here. We picked apples last week and made our own applesauce. Canned 53 jars of applesauce. Yum yum.

Meat prices are definitely higher but I try to by what's on sale and stock up ahead in my deep freezer. Pork butt goes on sale for 99 cents/lb here every now and then so I buy one when that happens. $40 for the one you got, ouch! It looks like it might be a better cut of meat than what I get though. We used to buy more organic/better quality food but we had a huge income change last year and there's just no way we could keep buying like that. If we ever get more income coming in, I would like to go back to that.

Your meat prices are way higher than my local Heb in Texas. I thought $18.99 for 5lbs of ground beef (80/20) was ridiculous. A year ago that was 7.99 I can still find cheap chicken breast (boneless and skinless) for under $3 a pound and it's only up to 4%retained fluids. But my grocery budget has been busted. I quit eating fruit a few months back. And replaced it with a magnesium supplement 😉 I quit snacks, and only cook two meals a day. I buy foods based on calories per cost. So meat and potatoes, and rice and beans are still our main meals.
