As a way to get exercise in and get the grocery shopping done, we shop by bike! Accomplishing two tasks at once! And saves money on gas and hopefully healthcare bills. This video shows the trailer we use. A link is below for that trailer. Any questions let us know! Please subscribe and thanks for watching!

I took pictures of the several different models/types of single-wheeled trailers to a welding/machine shop and asked them if it were possible have a single-wheeled bike trailer being able to carry at least "twice" as much weight without sacrificing mobility. There they designed a trailer that was 8' long/3' wide and was able to support 250-300 lbs. And they said it was my choice to either go with a seat post mount or the lowboy design. In-addition I had the trailer made to house a Big Smoothy(4X26") wheel. And remember companies will always charge at least 200% than what their product is worth, so they can make a profit. So when I say that I had my custom trailer built suitable to my general specs for under $400.00 ...you might want to consider DIYing, even if someone else does the building, and you just have an idea ;)

Super video. How's the trailer 3 years on? Anything more to report, likes and don't likes, what could be improved.

This looks hilarious to me , I suggest you do it the Dutch way, for instance with a transport bike. I have 80 liter bike bags plus a shopping crate and I can take much more with me. I always do the shoppings by bike because it is much more convenient like almost everybody is doing that here in the Netherlands.

I don't do off roading but I do use one hybrid bike for everything. I have a variety of large and small pannier bags and baskets for carrying almost anything on the bike. And I have a large sized dog trailer because it's big, fully enclosed and protected for carrying a weekly family shopping and anything else too heavy or bulky for the bike. I average between 30-50kg loads but I have had over 70kg. It's very versatile. A trailer really turns any bicycle into a real world practical alternative to a car. Add a trailer to any ordinary bike and you can do as much as with a cargo bike for a fraction of the cost unless you really need a dedicated cargo bike all day, every day. But for once or twice a week, a trailer will do almost everything you need.

I want to buy a Coho XC for camping this July but they no longer ship the standard QR Skewer, and none are available until late summer. Would anyone sell me their standard QR Skewer if you aren't using it?

How has the Burley held up? It's quite expensive and I am debating whether or not to purchase one.

I've had several attempts at DIYing my own single-wheeled trailer. My most promising(for commuting purposes) is made from a fold-out bed frame. Usually they're side-by-sides that are inter-locked together. For-granted the hitch & steering took some imagination, but I suggest checking other YT videos to give yourself either a base-idea, or find what you consider the easiest construction so if/when there are any issues then the repairs are easy to manage. Plus in one of my posts, I've given details as far as having something built up to a higher grade/use. Also keep in-mind ...the bigger the wheel, the smoother the ride. Most single-wheeled trailers use a 20" wheel --I suggest go bigger.

Super sorry for the delayed response! We lock it up with the bikes. There's usually a bike stand outside stores or a pole at least.

Super cool but I know this trailer is very heavy (around 15lbs) so if you must go uphill on the way back home, you are toast. I suggest an ebike for pulling this trailer if you do not live in a flat region.

Not really if you have good gearing on your bicycle like I do you can go up any hill with a load even come to a dead stop and take off again it's easy with a 40,30,22 crank set and a 11-34 cassette.I have had over 70 pounds of food on my trailer and could do what I said. But my trailer is a BoB Trailer.

I have carried over 70kg in a large dog trailer that weighs 13kg on it's own with moderate hills on the 6.5km trip home. In American that's 184lbs. That's on a basic hybrid bike with 3x7 gears. And I weigh 120kg myself. Yes, I had to put in some effort but no, it wasn't incredibly difficult either. I could carry more. Just got to go down to the low gears on the hills. Although if I had an e-bike, even on the lowest assist setting which would give an additional 50% power, I'd probably hardly even know it was behind me.

@@kennethcolbert2921 what you describe is completely unrealistic for the average joe. If we want to make a difference, we have to make shopping with a bicycle accessible to an untrained cyclist with average physical abilities.

@@thierrysf Not really if you have a 11/34 cassette and a 40,30,22 chain ring you are good to go up step hills fully loaded or I can anyway.I have went to the store with front and rear panniers and pulling my bob trailer with over 70 pounds of food and went up a very step hill lots of time here in Maine and I don't ride much but it was very easy to go up the hills sure I have to stop a few times but taking off again is easy too even fully loaded with food.
