Hey hun! You can find Listerine. We buy it at our pharmacy!! Also the jelly-like stuff at the beginning is this really low-calorie, virtually flavorless stuff used in cooking. They even have a kind you mix into your rice so you’re filling up but with less calories. If you ever make nikujaga (which I recommend) you use the noodle form of it and they soak up the flavor of the broth. So good!

20,000 yen per month = $189 per month. Assuming you have 30 days a month that is about $6 a day. Let's assume you eat at least 5 lunches a week out of the home at $10 a lunch. That adds another $200 a month to the food cost. That comes to roughly $13 a day for food. Not bad at all for Japan. Especially when some people will blow $7 just for a cup of coffee every single day.

Thanks for the insight Miss Tomi! Have you thought about growing your own fruits and veggies in your apartment? There are some that you can do in mini planters and even mason jars! Strawberries being one of the fruits. You can find how to grow them from your scraps online! (Herbs, garlic, and greens are also very good for apartment gardening!)

I wonder what the prices are like nowadays. Groceries are SO expensive in the US now. Those Japanese prices look really good, except for some of the fruits. You know when you see those fruits that have the fancy packaging--those are special fruits that people buy as gifts, like the $15 mango. When I lived in Japan, the cheapest fruits in my area were bananas, apples (maybe), and persimmons when they were in season. Those were basically the only fruits I ever ate! Things like cherries or grapes---noooo, never.
