Thanks for the clip. Very useful. A few tips for those who care to try this out. 24mm ring spanner to undo it. The O rings are not easy to get hold of, so be sure to have them beforehand or have a good ironmongers locally where you can get small bits like circlip and O rings by comparing the used with new. I used a citric acid bath to soak the parts in for an hour then cleaned them up with metal cleaner. Take the rings off before as theacid will eat into the rubber. Everything cleaned up nicely.

Very useful! In my case the circlip was replaced y a small O ring. Easy to remove. Only needed to remove and clean the moving small part that is below this. This did the job!

Heel erg bedankt voor je deze tip. Ik had net een nieuw binnenstuk gekocht van 119,- euro. Toen zag ik de code en zocht die nog even op hier op KZbin en kwam ineens op jou filmpje uit. Ik zag dat jij dat binnenstuk bij de veer ook los draaide, iets wat ze me niet hadden vertelt bij de winkel. Dus die heb ik ook losgedraaid en zag tot mijn verbazing dat er niet veel meer ingewikkelde zaken in zaten. Enkel de boel schoongemaakt en wat licht afgescheurd. Dan zoals jij deed, goed invetten en weer in elkaar gezet en hij doet het weer heel goed. Enkel dat rubber ringetje op 3:54 had ik per ongeluk kapot gemaakt. Hij zit er nu wel omheen, maar er zit wel een breuk erin. De kraan doet het goed verder, na de operatie, maar wellicht wel handig om dit rubbertje ringetje nog eens te vervangen ( ik bedoel dus niet die hele kleine rubber ringetje). Enig idee, hoe deze heet of wat het nummer van dat rubbertje is? Ik vermoed dat het de 21x2 onderdeel is van de afbeelden op 11:06 . Dan zou ik die nog ergens moeten bestellen. Dus bedankt voor de hulp hierin en duidelijk toonbaar maken van hoe je dat deed.

Het is de moeite waard om de o-ringen te vervangen, dan krijg je voor lange tijd geen lekkages of verkeerde meng temperatuur op je kraan. Je kunt ze op diverse plaatsen op internet bestellen. Ik heb ze van NBR rubber gekozen ervan uitgaande dat ik niet dagelijks uit de douche drink.

Thank you for your answer , well mine looks like your and it is part 47450000 . on mine it doesnt have the clip to remove the stem it just has an o ring but the stem comes out , and does not have the nut to to take it apart to clean , so i am stuck trying to figure out how to continue. thank you for taking the time to do a video.

I wonder if you could help me. We have an 18y old Grohe Aquatower with thermo element 47310 which is quite similar to the one shown in the video. It leaks constantly. Instead of the metal (?) ring inside the spout (the one you have before removing the 'bullet'), we have a small rubber ring. We cleaned the rubber ring and the 2 'bullets' inside the spout. At first it seemed that the problem was solved. The 'bullet' was able to move again and was kept inside by the rubber ring BUT once we put the black screw cap over the thermo element, the bullet was pushed inside and the element started to leak again. When we remove the screw cap the bullet is pushed out of the spout by the pressure of the water. Is there anything we can still do to fix this? Otherwise we have to buy a new thermo element and Grohe is ridiculously expensive. Thx Ik merk te laat op dat je NL spreekt :) Kan het druppen aan een ander inwendig deel van het thermo element liggen? Ik krijg trouwens het deel waar die veer in zit niet open (achter die 1ste 'kogel' zit een 2de die er ook uit kan maar verder zie ik geen mogelijkheid om dat zwaardere deel uiteen te halen).

@tamara, ik ken dit element niet. Maar als je hem niet kan open schroeven via de voor zijde, zou ik de achterkant proberen. de 6-kant in een bankschroef klemmen. Een leren lapje om het achterste messing deel leggen en met een waterpomptang linksom losdraaien. Niet te hard knijpen anders wordt ie ovaal, maar voor goede grip is het lapje geschikt. oude fiets binnenband kan ook. Kortom inwendig zit waarschijnlijk nog een klein o-ringetje wat vervangen moet worden, als ie uit elkaar wil ;-)

Hi...what did you mean by 38 when reinstalling housing? Will this have a effect on water temp if incorrectly placed? Thanks JC

it's designed to protect users from injury of hot water, so 38 at the outside must be 38 of water temp as wel. There for the blocking mechanism restrains the temp up to 38, when correct calibrated. For your kids safety i suggest to make it work as designed . ( let it lock at a temp of 38 degrees C.) Hopefully this anwered your question Jerry ;-)

@@ookdanog0 Dank voor je reactie. Bij Brammer in Utrecht hadden ze vreemd genoeg niets op voorraad (terwijl op de website alle ringen in alle maten en materialen worden aangeboden). Ben na heel veel omzwervingen (nérgens had men de 6x2-ring) uitgekomen bij Work'n Tools. Daar hadden ze een ring van ongeveer 6,5x1,5. Niet helemaal de correcte maat, maar hij liet zich er wel in persen en nu lekt het thermo-element niet meer!

thanks for this video. I only get cold water after installing a new thermostatic element. Do you know what the problem could be? Do you need to tighten the nut at 5:10 hard or should it still be a little bit loose?

The nut at 5:10 should be all the way down, to calibrate the 38 degree temp you only need to adjust the black knob at the end of the essembly. If you do'nt get any hot water, maybe the dirt filter is blocked at the hot inlet. check the one-way valves to, just behind the filter. There is one anoing peace as a cause , it is the 1/2" rubber noise canceler inside the wall. If you see them sticking in the wall coublings just take it out with a screw driver, you don't realy need it and it can only release rubber partikles into the filter. goodluck

Ik ben er achter na 8 jaar dat mij een verkeerde douchemengkraan is geleverd. Op de offerte staat dat er een type 1000 zou moet worden aangebracht maar nu na een storing ( geen warm water) moet verhelpen zie ik dat er een type 800 is gemonteerd. Wat is er aan te doen om weer warm water te krijgen? Er is niet of nauwelijks sprake van kalkafzetting. Ik heb ook het idee dat hij verkeerd gemonteerd is want de warmwaterkraan zit rechts en koud zit links en de uitloop voor de doucheslang zit aan de onderkant en ook nog eens links , is dat normaal? Wie kan mij helpen en hoe fiks ik het?

Mine was leakin a bit water from the tepmerature knob and could not keep up constant temp, knob was also getting stiff to adjust.

@mt; I unscrew a nut at 2.07 at 2.49 you can see how it looks like. Maybe you have a diferent thermostatic element.

The spring will hold the nut in place. You will feel when the nut reaches the end , just screw gently by hand. Only don't over do this because its brass , no torque needed ;-)

Because on Grohe website (www.grohe.us/en_us/1-2-thermo-element-47450000.html) the dimension for the big O-ring is 24x2 instead of 25x2 in your video. Do you have the documentation for the tiny ring or did you measured it? Thanks again!

I measred with a digital tool , mine is 25,12mm on the thermostat element. At the local o-ring store they advised to take 25x2 instead of 24x2, so for me it worked like a charm ;-)

We have replaced the thermostatic cartridge with the new part 47450 as we were unable to take the cartridge apart to reach the tiny o-ring inside. However, we can only get hot water and at a reduced pressure in the shower now, if we do not screw the black fitting fully in so that the cap does not fit against the body of the shower housing as it originally did. If the black fitting is fully screwed in, we only get cold water but at full pressure. In addition to these two problems, the nearby hand basin has water at reduced pressure although it was fine before we fitted the new thermostatic cartridge. Please can anybody help? Perhaps your initial problem might not the thermostat. There are other parts that can cause a issiue with temp and pressure as well. Water filter and one way-valve in the hot water entrance , at the backside. First see on a non-thermostatic tap if there is 60 degree celcius comming from hotwater supply, because that is the designed temp to work with. You might need to take the shower tap of the wall and further investigate, or call a plumber. good luck ;-)

Hallo ook danog, Kun je mij vertellen waar je de O-ringen hebt gekocht. En waar kan ik een plaatje vinden met de O-ringen die ik nodig heb? Mijn thermostaat heeft een artikelnummer 47349 maar heb alles al afgezocht en niks kunnen vinden. De video is top, als ik de O-ringen heb dan is het een koud kunstje met deze video erbij.

Het artikelnummer van jouw is een ander thermostaat type( deze is wat smaller) en heeft misschien andere maten in o-ringen. Echter blijft het principe van de opbouw hetzelfde. Je kunt het met een digitale schuifmaat opmeten. Een bedrijf zoals bijvoorbeeld Brammer kan je de ringen leveren.

@@ookdanog0 Heb vandaag alle ringen vervangen en alles netjes in elkaar gezet. Als ik de thermostaat element op mijn kraan monteer lekt deze geen water, als ik daarna de zwarte stelring (temperatuurregelaar) erop begint het te lekken uit het kleine rondje gaatje van mijn temperatuurregelaar, draai ik deze verder aan wordt dit zelfs een straaltje water. Kunt u aangeven wat hier fout gaat?

@@RossiRulez jouw thermostatisch element is van een ander type, daar zit misschien ook een binnenste o-ring om de thermostaat-as. Waarschijnlijk zit daar je lek, door slijtage op de as en/of o-ring die niet af dicht.

mi sono imbattuto per caso su questo video molto interessante, vorrei segnalare due cose, i miei o-erre non sono da 25x2mm ma 24x2mm (se misuro con il calibro la sede rilevo 25mm) per essere sicuro del funzionamento, a valvola smontata, avresti dovuto inserirla in un bicchiere di acqua calda. se tutto funziona dalla valvola esce uno spillo se non esce nulla non funziona più
