She was nervous performing in front of the Apollo crowd, but after they embraced her she killed it!

She did not kill it. Some singers sounds better in the studio. Singing live is a whole other ordeal. She was flat a lot. Her voice is not that strong like a Whitney. But, the production worked in the studio. Maybe she's better now. But, my respect for Artists will always be in support of their tenacity. This business is tough.

I think a lot of these artists get a taste of fame and a small fortune (if we can even call it that) and then are asked if you like what you have so far you know what the deal is. And many just say f*** it, it ain’t worth it! Then we have people like Travis Scott and we know what happened there…

I LOVE this song, but to everyone saying she sounds "winded" you are 100% correct. She does NOT have a bad voice, but she just sounds like a regular girl who can carry a tune. As a "professional" singer, she should have better breath control and her vocals should be stronger...just my opinion. To think, people have criticized Janet Jackson and Aliyah, but both are better and Janet can also dance. The audience was very gracious because people love the song - and all the strait guys were just LOOKING at her. She could have sounded like a cat dying and it would'nt have mattered to them. People are so caught up on looks, but honestly if Kelly Price came out on stage sounding like this girl, lord help her. Still, it's an awesome song and the actual studio track sounds great.

Nah, that’s the apollo crowd in Harlem, NYC. The Toughest crowd in the world!!! I happen to have a tremendous appreciation for people that sing live because it is very difficult. She might’ve been out of breathe at certain times, but I do feel she sounded phenomenal. The song was a certified bop back then and the crowd was rocking with her. Does she sound an octave lower than her recording, yes. But she finished very strong and demonstrated good vocal skills.

@@QuadrantBottomHalf You clearly have no knowledge of the soulful stylings of Mr. Teddy Riley's productions or the king of autotune Roger Troutman from Zapp...long before Cher's song..lol.
@dawb863 жыл бұрын
@@finefeatheredfriend9240 LOL. No, good sir. YOU have no knowledge that the vocoder is a vocal machine used as an instrument to intentionally give your voice that robotic sound. Autotune was invented to correct pitchy singers then T-Pain revolutionized it by using it in a similar but not identical way to Roger/Teddy/DeVante Swing from Jodeci/etc. Amel Larriuex was not autotuned on ANY albums. It might have been that the band was playing in a different key that was throwing her off earlier in the performance, nerves being at the Apollo, or something else. Like the previous user already pointed out, she picked it up near the end. Check her track record and learn your history, squire...
@finefeatheredfriend92403 жыл бұрын
@@dawb86 What in the tomfoolery?? Where did I say that Amel was autotuned? My response was to the commentor that stated autotune did not exist until '97. I was simply letting that individual know that Zapp and Roger and T. Riley all used the vocoder before Cher's song. Reading is fundamental🙄
